Unfair descriptions on ebay

37 posts in this topic

That auction is only slightly misleading. Overstreet came up with both the grade naming and numbering schemes, not CGC. So both the descripting "NM/MT" and the number "9.8" are fair game for anybody to use. I do hate those people who put "pre-CGC" in their auction descriptions though!

Also, you can retract your bid without asking him to do it for you.

Yes I know. It said Pre- CGC and I kind of wondered what he meant by that. Now I know he meant it is not CGCed (yet) but I thought he was referring to..whatever ..dunno...the time before it CGC existed...grmblfx..I am stupid, I know.

Did you slab that yourself? If so, when did you buy it?

I ask because this is only the second Modern book I've ever seen with "cream to off-white" pages. Did you buy that at the Tyson's show, perhaps? One or two of the dealers there keep their comics in their garage--not good for preserving page whiteness!

If you told me what bid siphoning is about I could give you the german term.

If you talk about embellishment in the description then it would probably be something like "Verschleierung" or so..

Slabbed it myself and bought it two months ago. Did not realize that the inside was that "creamy" and yes it was a local buy!!! But not at the local Tyson's show, though they are sellers there. Don't want to give them negative publicity as this was the only one from the DD Miller run that was this "bad"? all else was Off white to White

Bid siphoning is when you see someone bidding on another seller's items that you intend on or are selling and ask that bidder to participate in your auction instead... not that I doing that here wink.gif But if you were to ..ahem...retract your bid for the one you were "misled" on, I just want you to know that there is a comparable back up that you "may" bid on... grin.gif

Well yes, thank you for that offer.

I will be thinking about it but I mainly want to build my collection on 9.8s, and there should be some 191 DDs 9.8s.

I am not even especially interested in this special issue. I just thought it would have been a bargain at $ 9.99 as CGC 9.8 with those low shipping costs.

Hmm...it is just the perspective. Some of the wedding poses were taken on a sloping bridge, therefore creating the illusion of my "shortcomings". I'm including a few others to prove my "stature" smile.gif :
