shiverbones
here is a whacky giant i found at a local shop last night. I slept at my girlfriends afterwards so i haven't even been home yet to find out about the gerber number. I of course wish it was An avon giant horror comic, but beggars can't be choosers.... shiverbones
its a no #, 1944 R.W. Voigt publishing. The Opener of the book & the superhero story has a GREAT skeleton splash. Its such a weird mix on genres. I at first thought it was a remainders book, but since ALL YOURS COMICS is printed at the top of each page I guess it was meant to be this odd. Funny animal, superhero, crime, boxing, newspaper style strips, it just too strange! Almost everything is a direct rip off of something existing already like TRANSOM is really Tracey!!!! shiverbones
well gerber has it as a 6, and their copy looks BAD! it has a back like a fox giant, so i think thats the fox, but its 128 pgs., unless the overstreet is counting the cover? Susanville
they probably are because i had a dc special that said 52 pages in overstreet but the cover said 48 pages. i had posted a questions in the bronze section and most people who responded said that overstreet counts the covers. nice book, though. tb
POV, Like almost all of my best finds, this came from a private collector who wrote to me after seeing my posts here or (in this case) one of my eBay auctions. Since I scanned in my collection of MM Mags in the spring, I have gotten several fantastic leads from long time owners of incredible books. Apparently, after seeing my page these people sensed my enthusiasm for early Disneys and I suspect that was a bigger incentive for them than the actual price. This particular book had been off the market for almost two generations along with many equally incredible copies that I am getting. The story behind them is really interesting but unfortunately I promised the seller to keep it confidential. I just wanted to post a few since I have never seen books of this caliber before myself - even the set of file copies I bought at Sotheby's doesn't come close. Susanville
in overstreet, the guide price only goes up to VF. does this have a shot at going past that? fantastic book.
tb
Although copies above strict VF are very rare, exceptions do come up once in a blue moon. It's too bad that so many of these gems are hidden away - they are IMO some of the most beautiful examples of early comics ever produced. I am trying to do my little part to make them more accessible to anyone who enjoys them.
