  1. SkyPink, Are those Roy Rogers Annuals in the GCD. Are they printed in the US? I will have to check the guide. I collect Roy when I can find good quality stuff. He was quite a singer and he raced motorcycles too. The books that I have are mostly text except for the BLB. I am still looking for Winston SciFi series seen below. bb
  2. Britney Spears acts like one of my relatives unfortunately. So bless her and what about those Classic Comics. I don't see any of those on this thread. Perhaps they were too late for the Campbell Collection or they are still tucked away. I found this one in the "C" box from Wally. bb
  3. And as long as I have the "C" box out, don't forget the Classic Comics edition of Lorna Doone. Ok, someone may have shown this one but I had the box out and Brigadoon was on TV yesterday. bb
  4. I like collecting books with radio or comic characters. There were quite a few others. Does anyone have any? I have a lot of Whitman books but have never found the Superman book. bb
  5. Any thoughts on how the film Metropolis influenced comics and pulps? I just watched it for yhe zillionth time. I watched Metropolis a couple of times and read the original novel. I agree with the art deco comment that someone else made but streamlining was supposed to be futuristic. You can see the effect in early Shuster work. Pretty nice stuff. I don't think we saw a robot like the one in the movie, in the comics very often. I thought the movie had some social commentary that was pro labor union and I am suprised it wasn't smashed by the US Industrial/Military Establishment. It needs to be updated with color and sound but perhaps the Blade Runner had a similar theme without the obvious socialism. bb
  6. While BZ is out of the kitchen, I thought I would throw a few circus stories into the pot. I would love to have the original art done by Cole and Eisner for these stories from Police 21 and 16. bb
  7. None of the Blonde Phantom books are rare but they are very collectable. I am still trying to get an All Select (preferably issue 4, the motorcycle cover) which was the original title. bb How does Captain America manage to change gears with a suicide shifter while holding the throttle in one hand and his shield with the other and shooting a machine gun from the front of the cycle. Wow, he was super! Let's see Jesse James top that.
  8. The Short Bus is back on the route! The World's Worst Art Spotter says that it's not Ward. Looks like a "shop job" to me -- very generic. Jack There isn't much there to guess with but I often see Gustavson work that reminds me of Ward. I agree with Jack that it is not Ward anyway. bb
  9. I like that Crime Reporter cover. I used to have this one but I sold it a while ago. bb
  10. Speaking of Fletcher Hanks, I thought that the villian in this Angel splash looked a bit like a Hanks' character. And if you are missing BZ's Quizes, then perhaps you can work on this Marvel Mystery Puzzle page. Also included is a decoder for secret Nazi messages. bb
  11. I always thought that this looked like a Baker cover too. bb And don't forget the ultimate Baker crime comics. and this one you can color yourself.
  12. Unfortunately I don't own this one but the scan looks good. bb
  13. And South Sea girl wasn't too shabby. bb
  14. Lately I have been looking for Baker covers which I posted in another thread. I also found a few planet cover scans that I liked while looking for Fletcher Hanks stories (that don't seem to be in Planet 6 and 8). I wonder what kind of bird we have on the cover of Planet 6? It certainly is in the raptor category. And more robots.
  15. I found another Diary Secrets but I think I will stop looking now. These romance comics were picked up and just stuffed in random boxes. Hopefully they will be easier to locate from now on. bb
  16. And my last three romance comics, unless I find something else hidden in the "T" box. The last two are beater copies with a little photoshop work. bb That Pictorial Romances cover seems kind of cynical. And this Going Steady cover pictures the ultimate romantic dream. (Except for Dad paying the $18,000 for the wedding.)
  17. Baker drew some nice westerns. This one featured "Buckskin Belle",
  18. IIlustration by Baker for Girl Gangs article in Fury.
  19. This one may have been posted already. But while I was searching in the other boxes, I found a few other scans to post. The sadist illo is from Fury. The other story illustrated by Baker was written by Harlan Ellison (based on his teenage gang non-fiction).
  20. This isn't identified as a Baker cover in the guide but it is at least influenced by Baker. Maybe he had a different inker? bb
  21. Scrooge, Is this a quiz? I believe we have Paliament (with Big Ben in the background) and the Tower Bridge in the first and fifth drawings. The Tower of London is a particularly good location to visit with the magnificent bridge in the background. Trafalgar square (monument for Lord Nelson and St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church in the second drawing) is right next to the art museums and easy to visit too. Stonehenge is 120 km outside of town (sixth drawing). What are the other sites? Perhaps we have a Brit on board that can clarify. My guesses are gates to number 10 Downing and another Church (St. James Piccadilly?) but I really don't know. bb Oops, I see you have identified the 4th and 5th as the British Museum. I didn't recognize either one. The inside of the museum is magnificent. Almost everything that you would want to see is inside. I don't remember the outside looking like that. But the gates look similar to the British Museum gates that I have seen in other photos.
  22. For more circus adventures, try the reprint of Dumbo FC 17 in the Disney Comic collection available at your local Borders book store for a substantial discount. Other classic stories included in the volume are Snow White, Bambi, Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland. bb
  23. What a segue... I can't let this this opportunity pass without posting a few circus related items. Sometimes the geek gets to provide a drum roll for the ring master (and part time trapeze artist). Great circus stuff there BZ. Perhaps someone has that Barker (Nordling?) original art that you were interested in. Maybe a juicy trade? By the way, back in the 1950s they still used posters to advertise the circus and carnavals before they came to town. My parents home had a shed that was always covered with posters and we used to get free tickets to the carnaval rides and side shows. bb Dumbo was in the circus. I will use this opportunity to show a few more items from my Leeds collection if you don't mind.
  24. I love that Teenage Romance 18 cover and I do have a Wartime Romance 12 but it isn't high grade. bb I don't think I have seen any of the 33+ T-A Romance covers. I have a few more in the other boxes but won't have a chance to post them. bb
