Welcome to the CGC Chat Boards (“Boards”)! These Boards have been connecting comic fans worldwide since 2002, with millions of posts representing a wealth of information not found anywhere else online. The Boards also provide a number of resources for collectors, including the marketplace section for buying and selling comics and comic-related material.

Board Guidelines

These Boards are meant to be an open and positive environment for the discussion of comic book-related topics. As such, we encourage a free exchange of ideas and comments while maintaining a level of respect for fellow board members.

Board Restrictions

Anyone may read these Boards and reply to posted messages. However, only those who have signed up on the Boards for a user name may start new threads. If you have not already registered yourself, please do so as a New User. This will allow you not only to start new threads, but will also make it easy to see what posts are new each time you revisit the Boards.

Below are the terms of use which you must agree to in order to use this site, our philosophy behind Boards moderation, and the rules for listing comics and related material for sale in the Marketplace section of the Boards.

CGC shall not be liable for or responsible in any manner for any of your dealings or interaction with third parties.

9. Buying, Selling, and Trading Collectibles.

Users of the Boards may advertise collectibles or other items available for sale or trade, or wanted for purchase. CGC has no control over the items or services listed or purchased or traded through the Boards, the quality of such items, or whether such items correspond to their description on the Boards. CGC also cannot ensure that a buyer, seller or trader will pay the money or send the goods or perform the services promised, and CGC makes no warranty, express or implied, with respect to any transactions performed on or through the Boards.

You hereby release CGC and its affiliates, subsidiaries, and their respective officers, directors, agents and employees, from any and all claims, disputes, demands, suits, liabilities and damages of every kind arising out of or connected with any transaction or other dealings you may have with any other Boards user. You understand that you offer, bid for, and agree to buy, sell and trade collectibles on or through the web site at your own risk.

The collectibles market is volatile and thinly capitalized. Significant short-term price swings are always possible. In addition, the difference between the prices at which a dealer sells collectible items and the prices at which dealers will buy such items often can be large. CGC does not guarantee users or other participants a profit on any purchases or sales they make with any other participants, or any purchase or sale made anywhere on the basis of information contained on the Boards.

10. Indemnification.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CGC, its subsidiaries, affiliates, related parties, officers, directors, employees, agents, independent contractors, advertisers, partners, and co-branders from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorney's fees, that may be made by any third party, that is due to or arising out of your conduct or connection with the Boards, your provision of Content, your violation of these Terms of Use, or any other violation of the rights of another person or party.

11. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES.

YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT YOUR USE OF THE BOARDS AND ANY SERVICES OR CONTENT PROVIDED (THE "SERVICE") IS MADE AVAILABLE AND PROVIDED TO YOU AT YOUR OWN RISK. IT IS PROVIDED TO YOU "AS IS" AND CGC EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, IMPLIED OR EXPRESS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

CGC MAKES NO WARRANTY, IMPLIED OR EXPRESS, THAT ANY PART OF THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, VIRUS-FREE, TIMELY, SECURE, ACCURATE, RELIABLE, OF ANY QUALITY, NOR THAT ANY CONTENT IS SAFE IN ANY MANNER FOR DOWNLOAD. YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT NEITHER CGC NOR ANY USER OF THE SERVICE PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL ADVICE OF ANY KIND AND THAT USE OF SUCH ADVICE OR ANY OTHER INFORMATION IS SOLELY AT YOUR OWN RISK AND WITHOUT CGC’S LIABILITY OF ANY KIND.

Some jurisdictions may not allow disclaimers of implied warranties and the above disclaimer may not apply to you only as it relates to implied warranties.

12. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY.

YOU AGREE THAT CGC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INDICENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, GOODWILL, USE, DATA OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSS (EVEN IF CGC HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES), RESULTING FROM OR ARISING OUT OF (I) THE USE OF OR THE INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, (II) THE COST TO OBTAIN SUBSTITUTE GOODS AND/OR SERVICES RESULTING FROM ANY TRANSACTION ENTERED INTO ON THROUGH THE SERVICE, (III) UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO OR ALTERATION OF YOUR DATA TRANSMISSIONS, (IV) STATEMENTS OR CONDUCT OF ANY THIRD PARTY ON THE SERVICE, OR (V) ANY OTHER MATTER RELATING TO THE SERVICE.

In some jurisdictions, it is not permitted to limit liability and therefore such limitations may not apply to you.

13. Reservation of Rights.

CGC reserves all rights, including but not limited to any and all copyrights, trademarks, patents, trade secrets, and any other proprietary right that CGC may have in the Boards, its content, and the goods and services that may be provided. CGC does not provide you with any implied or express licenses or rights by making the Boards or the Service available to you and you will have no rights to make any commercial uses of the Boards except as expressly provided herein without CGC’s prior written consent.

14. Notification of Copyright Infringement.

CGC takes claims of copyright infringement seriously. CGC will respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable law. If you believe any materials accessible on or from the Boards infringe your copyright, you may request removal of those materials (or access to them) from the Boards by submitting written notification to CGC’s copyright agent designated below. In accordance with the Online Copyright Infringement Liability Limitation Act of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) (”DMCA”), the following is some of the information the written notice (the “DMCA Notice”) must include substantially the following:

· Your physical or electronic signature;

· Identification of the copyrighted work you believe to have been infringed or, if the claim involves multiple works on the Boards, a representative list of such works;

· Identification of the material you believe to be infringing in a sufficiently precise manner to allow CGC to locate that material;

· Adequate information by which CGC can contact you (including your name, postal address, telephone number, and, if available, email address);

· A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the copyrighted material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;

· A statement that the information in the written notice is accurate; and

· A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.

CGC’s designated copyright agent to receive DMCA Notices is:

COPYRIGHT AGENT CERTIFIED COLLECTIBLES GROUP 5501 COMMUNICATIONS PKWY SARASOTA, FL 34240 USA 941-360-3994 admin@collectiblesgroup.com

If you fail to comply with all of the requirements of Section 512(c)(3) of the DMCA, your DMCA Notice may not be effective.

Please be aware that if you knowingly materially misrepresent that material or activity on the Boards is infringing your copyright, you may be held liable for damages (including costs and attorneys’ fees) under Section 512(f) of the DMCA.

IT IS CGC’S POLICY TO TERMINATE THE USER ACCOUNTS OF REPEAT INFRINGERS.

15. Applicable Law and Exclusive Venue.

These Terms of Use shall be governed by the substantive laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its choice-of-law principles. In the event of any dispute arising out of or relating to the Boards, you agree and consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the Circuit Court for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit of Florida (Sarasota County) or the U.S. District Court of the Middle District of Florida (Tampa Division).

16. You agree that CGC may, under certain circumstances and without prior notice, immediately terminate your user account and access to the Boards. Cause for such termination shall include, but not be limited to, (a) breaches or violations of these Terms of Use or other incorporated agreements or guidelines, (b) requests by law enforcement or other government agencies, (c) a request by you (self-initiated account deletions), (d) discontinuance or material modification to this web site (or any part thereof), or (e) unexpected technical or security issues or problems. You agree that all terminations for cause shall be made in CGC’s sole discretion and that CGC shall not be liable to you or any third-party for any termination of your user account or access to the Boards.

17. Miscellaneous Information.

In the event that this Terms of Use conflicts with any law under which any provision may be held invalid by a court with jurisdiction over the parties, such provision will be interpreted to reflect the original intentions of the parties in accordance with

applicable law, and the remainder of this Terms of Use will remain valid and intact; (ii) The failure of either party to assert any right under this Terms of Use shall not be considered a waiver of any that party's right and that right will remain in full force and effect; (iii) You agree that without regard to any statute or contrary law that any claim or cause arising out of the Boards or the Services must be filed within one (1) year after such claim or cause arose or the claim shall be forever barred; (iv) CGC may assign its rights and obligations under this Terms of Use and be relieved of any further obligation.

THE PHILOSOPHY USED TO MODERATE THESE BOARDS

CGC encourages free thinking and open discussion of the comic book collecting hobby among users of the Boards, including constructive criticism. CGC values its members and Boards users as part of a joint effort to protect and improve the collectibles market. Nonetheless, while diverse views and alternative perspectives are welcome here, the Boards are not the place for negative or persistent agendas against other users or CGC’s services.

Boards moderators are employed by CGC to ensure that open and friendly discussions are maintained among the users of the Boards, and the rules are being followed. A notice, warning or violation may be issued to a user if he/she violates the rules with any of the following behaviors:

1.       Physical threats.

2.       Racist or "hate crime"-type comments.

3.       Inappropriate references to significantly emotional topics, such as Nazis, slavery, etc.

4.       Real and graphic depictions of extreme violence, dead bodies, etc.

5.       Posting of any information which encourages or enables illegal or fraudulent behavior by others, particularly with regards to the hobbies covered here.

6.       Excessively graphic sexual references and/or images, particularly when used in an insulting manner toward other users, but also in general.

7.       Strong profanity, primarily when used in an insulting manner toward other users.

8.       Masking of strong profanity by using alternate keystrokes to avoid profanity filters, particularly when used in an insulting manner toward other users.  Profanity is also not allowed in memes.  (If a word is blocked by the profanity filter, it is not allowed in memes)

9.       Inappropriate user names.

10.   Political posts.  This includes talking about voting, elections, current politicians or anything else that is deemed political by an admin.

11.   Harassment of another user through unwanted and repeated arguing and conflict, particularly when exemplified by "following" that user from thread to thread (trolling).

12.   Threads started or signatures used explicitly to bash other users.

13.   Using photographs of the real appearance of other users in memes or other photo editing if the person whose photograph is used objects to the result.

14.   Hijacking another user’s threads in a way that stifles the originally intended topic against the objections of the thread creator.

15.   Particularly excessive off-topic posting.

16.   Spamming the Boards with repeated or similar posts.

17.   Creating shill accounts, accounts created as anonymous identities to push specific agendas

18.   Placing small inappropriate statements within longer posts whose content is mainly legitimate.

19.   Banned members creating new accounts to continue posting. (results in automatic banning)

20.  Posting images of competitors books, or promoting a competitors company in any way.

21.  Re-posting removed threads, posts or topics.  That includes threads that have been locked.  If a thread has been locked, do not take up the discussion in another thread.    An exception will be made for the marketplace, if changes are made to comply with the rules.

22.  This site shall not be used to solely promote a users video channels.  If a pattern is discovered that a user is only using this site to promote their videos, they may be flagged as a spammer, and banned from the forum.

Nude images: Given that this is a comic book collecting forum, some leeway for actual comic imagery is provided, more so than non-comic related imagery. Some nudity is allowed when it is comic related and done in a tasteful manner. However, there are many comics that are quite explicit and aren't allowed to be posted here.

Political posting: Considering the social climate of today, politics are at the forefront of discussion more than ever before. While rational discussion of politics is possible among some people, it can easily ignite negative conversation. These Boards are meant to be an open and positive environment for the discussion of comic-related topics, and as such, politics have no place here. Moderating political posts is difficult because of the broad definition of what entails “politics,” so if you feel your comments could be considered political, particularly if they are referencing current events, it is best not to post them.

ENFORCING BOARD POLICIES

Boards posting and moderation are full of gray areas and disagreements of opinion. As such, moderation is more an art than a science. Ultimately, it's a task that depends as much on the users of the Boards as it does on how the moderators handle each situation. Every board’s moderation must be orchestrated to embrace the culture of the bulk of its users.

Users in violation of the general rules of conduct will be handled through a system of notices, warnings, and violations for which points are assigned. Points are assigned based on the level of infraction, which can be considered minor, major, or unacceptable, and take into consideration a user’s overall contribution to the Boards. Notices do not result in points assigned, whereas warnings and violations do. Accumulated points over a 12-month period increase the timeframe of restricted posting and suspension to the point of banning.

POINT ASSIGNMENTS

Notice – 0 points assigned

Warning – 1 point (expires in 3 months)

Minor violation – 3 points (expires in 6 months)

Major violation – 5 points (expires in 1 year)

Last chance – 15 points (expires in 1 year)

Unacceptable behavior – 18 points (instant ban)

BOARD RESTICTIONS

0 points – no restrictions

1 point – no restrictions

3 points – 2-day restricted posting

5 points – 7-day restricted posting

10 points – 14-day suspension from the site

15 points – 21-day suspension from the site

18 points – permanent ban

In the event of a notice, warning or violation, the moderator will communicate to the member an explanation of how the user violated the board rules. CGC’s system keeps a tally of points for each user, which increase or decrease based on additional violations or expiration of points. Violations and points of a user are not seen by other users.

These moderator actions are taken after careful consideration, conforming to the stated policy and practices described here. If a user has a question or concern regarding a violation he/she receives, the user can post in the Moderation Review Request forum.

A senior management team from CGC oversees moderation and will assist with certain violations or possible violations that require their input. The primary goal of this hierarchy is to maintain integrity by ensuring that moderation is handled in an objective, impartial manner that is fair to users.

Locked Threads: Moderators will occasionally lock threads when a discussion has been rehashed ad nauseam or when the quality of discussion has degraded to bickering, infighting or worse. When a thread is locked, no more posts can be added to that thread. Users are requested to not repost the discussion in a new thread. Disregarding this request is grounds for point assignments.

Reporting posts: This function should be used when a user finds a post that he/she feels violates the message board rules. However, excessive reporting should be avoided. Personal feelings should not factor into the decision to file a report. Fortunately, the vast majority of users follow the rules, so multiple reporting from one user may bring his/her judgment into question. If you feel targeted by another user, a better approach is to utilize the ignore function (below).

Ignore function: With so many different personalities present on the Boards, it is inevitable that some users will not get along well with some others. The ignore function is a tool that a user can use to hide all posts made by another user. This tool is useful for eliminating potential engagements that may lead to arguments, warnings and strikes.

CGC reserves the right to change these rules at any time or take any other actions deemed necessary to protect the integrity and environment of the Boards.

MARKETPLACE RULES

The Boards marketplace has proven to be a valuable tool for buying and selling of comics and related material. Please review the rules below before listing items in the marketplace. The violation of certain rules will invoke a warning that allows you 24 hours to correct. Other violations may cause the entire sale thread to be removed, so please be sure each rule is met.

Note that buyers and sellers have full responsibility for their transactions. CGC will not resolve disputes. Purchases and sales are done at your own risk.

  1. A sale thread must contain books that are CGC-certified or raw only, or items directly related to comics.
  2.  Any book that reprints material prior to 1980 is allowed in GSB.
  3. List your books only once, and in the appropriate sub-forum. Incorrectly placed threads or books posted in multiple places will be moved. Repeat offenders will have their threads pulled completely. Do not post copper or modern books in Golden/Silver/Bronze Age Only, and do not post golden, silver or bronze books in Copper / Modern Age Only. Opinions vary about when the bronze age ends and the copper age begins, so the moderation team considers 1980–1984 an overlap period; books from the start of 1980 through the end of 1984 are considered appropriate for either the G/S/B sub-forum or the C/M sub-forum. Books from before that period should be posted in G/S/B, and books from after that period should be posted in C/M. Books from any age are allowed in Mixed Age Threads and Misc.
  4. A sale thread must be an exclusive Boards-only offer. If the book is offered for sale through another venue such as a personal site, dealer site, eBay, etc., then it should not be offered here. If a book is offered elsewhere, it should be offered in the Sales Advertising board.
  5. A sale thread must list specific books with purchase prices. It is acceptable to bulk price, and/or note that package discounts may be available, but you must list a starting price that you will sell the item for.
  6. Either a scan or an estimated grade must be listed with each book offered for sale.
  7. Estimated shipping costs, times, and methods must be listed.
  8. Forms of payments must be listed. PayPal "goods and services" is an acceptable payment method, but Personal PayPal, aka "friends and family," is not allowed. It is also against the rules to ask for Personal PayPal via private message.
  9. Your post cannot violate the terms of service for your payment methods.  (NOTE: Specifically, no surcharges for accepting PayPal, or discounts for other methods)
  10. A return policy must be stated with any time limits indicated. It is acceptable to say "no time limit" or "no returns," or have time limits that vary by reason for a return, such as "30 day return for any reason. No time limit for returns not as described.” But time limits must be stated.
  11. If posting a trading thread you must list a dollar value price for the book that you will accept in trade value, and you must put "TRADE ONLY" in the title of your thread if you will not accept money.
  12. Threads are allowed to be bumped three times total and only one full day after falling off of the front page. This does not include "sold" notices, or truly useful informational updates. A post that inappropriately bumps a sale thread and is then deleted can still be seen by CGC.
  13. No spamming. Group your for sale items into one thread in each sub-forum. Attempts to take up front page real estate by creating multiple threads are not allowed.
  14. Links to outside sites for any purpose involving purchasing the offered books are not allowed.
  15. Threads selling digital codes or digital versions are not allowed.
  16. Raffles are not allowed.
  17. Mystery boxes are not allowed. You must list everything you are selling exactly as the buyer will receive it.  An exception will be allowed for stuff that is being offered for free.  Shipping charges for free merchandise can't exceed actual shipping costs.
  18. Pre-sale announcements belong in the Announcements thread. Do not start your own thread in the sales sub-forums for your sale until you are ready to post and sell your books. Posting a single book now and the rest at a stated time is considered an announcement, and is not allowed.

For a violation of rules #5-11, a warning will be issued stating the violation. If the violation is not corrected within a 24 hour period of the warning, the sale thread may be removed.

For violation of rules #1,3, 4 and #12-18, the sales thread will be removed.

Repeated violations may result in a point assignment.

Buyers may not post in a way that hurts a sellers chance of a sale, or discredits their reputation.  A few examples would be saying this book is priced too high, or a cheaper copy can be found at xxxxx.  Another example would be, I don't like this person, and would never buy from him/her.   There may be a few exceptions for known scammers.    We can tell the difference between a joke and a rude or unnecessary comment.    A decision either way will be at the discretion of the moderator.  Violation of this rule will result in points added to your account, and possibly restricting your ability to post on the forum.

If a buyer or seller is on the Probation or Hall of Shame list, it is ok to make 1 post only to alert the community.  Being on said list does not mean a seller is restricted from listing books for sale or a buyer is restricted from purchasing  but, we understand the need to make people aware of the situation.

BUYERS: Prompt responses must be made to buy requests made through the Boards either by posting in the sale thread or sending a private message. When you reply to a sale thread indicating that you'll buy something, you must indicate what book you are buying. If someone else is more specific than you are, your offer may not be considered valid by the seller.

This is a suggested "ok to post" rules reminder template so that everyone can feel comfortable helping to keep things in line with the guidelines instead of feeling like a self appointed forum cop.

If someone is not complying with the rules, this should be considered an OK way for everyone around here to nudge people a bit. Once in a thread is plenty, guys. After that you can re-post it in new threads (once) but then just hit the notify moderator button if things don't get cleaned up.

Hello!

Welcome to the "Comics Market - Forum Only Selling" board!

The moderators have asked everyone around here to help educate new comers about the posting rules for this forum so that we can keep things running smoothly. So whenever we see a new thread go up that's missing some of the information required by the rules, someone will generally happen along and post this reminder (by moderator request).

You can find the posting guidelines here:

Specifically, you should check out #s (FILL IN SOME NUMBERS HERE. OR DON'T. LET'S FACE IT DIGGING UP RULE NUMBERS IS ACTUALLY WORK.)

They are well worth reading, because your posts can be removed from the boards if they don't conform to the guidelines. This will help you to attract more buyers as well, since this is how people expect to have books offered around here.

Thanks, and glad to have you here!
