  1. I have been noticing more and more with the big comic sellers on ebay and there own sites the listings of thousands of raw comics and no image to

show the cover. Just the old fashioned stock image . Is it just me or is this a true lack of customer service on the sellers part. To many times i bought a comic and  it comes in what ever they deem ok.

they use the old stock image to sell you what ever they want

how do you all feel about the big guys never listing true images.

  2. I was thinking at the ny comic con with the sad passing last year of George Perez.

DC should re assemble the classic group again.

    Nightwing, Wondergirl , Changeling , Starfire , Raven , Cyborg .

Have them reform to tackle a old foe who is rising from the ashes again to wreak havok and poltical turmoil .

I was thinking Brother Blood reforms his satanic cultish church post covid era. Have him grow larger with society falling out of favor with what has transpired durung this new covid related era. all the while brother blood larger plans are left in the background.

Huh, usually someone starts a thread in Comics General about their experiences at NYCC. Maybe they still will.

    In the meantime --

I went on Sunday. This year that was the only day I had free to go. I arrived early, waited about 45 minutes or so, and got to the main floor to look for books. I came loaded for bear, but only bagged a few chubby chipmunks.

I guess I should have done my due diligence before buying a ticket, but I was unpleasantly surprised by the smaller number of comics dealers at the show. (In my defense, I don't know if the exhibitor list was finalized when I bought my ticket back in May.) Quite a few dealers weren't there, or I couldn't find their booths. I'm pretty sure that --

Dale Roberts wasn't there. Superworld wasn't there. Basement comics wasn't there. JHV Associates wasn't there. Graham Crackers wasn't there.

Thank God for Bob Storms! I picked up some books at his booth, and few others at, I think, Gary's Comics (?) and Reece's Comics.  I couldn't find anything on my list at Harley's booth, and nothing jumped out at me as an impulse buy.

My impression is that the convention is making it a real hassle for comic dealers to attend. That, and/or it's become too expensive, with booth prices, hotels, etc. making the event a money loser.

There was a lot of discount stock being blown out, mid-grade books, sometimes dumped in boxes out of alphabetical order. I also saw a lot of books that probably should've been discounted to get them to sell. Mid-grade Gold Keys, stuff like that.

There were a lot of high-priced, slabbed wall books, mostly the usual suspects. I overheard a dad pointing them out to his kid, calling them "investment comics," and considering the prices, I found his statement discouraging.  In fact, I overheard a lot of people inquiring about wall books, only to be astounded at the prices before moving on. The rarified air of high-grade keys might be good for some of us in the hobby, but I think it's a serious barrier for new entrants. For all the slabs I saw, it seemed like only a handful of people were buying them.  I saw almost no one at the tables selling original art.

Once I gave up on hunting for books, I wandered around a little. If you had a booth selling fake, plastic katanas, you were rolling in money. There were huge booths for several anime attractions like One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, and a few others. There were tons of vendors selling mystery boxes. There was an insane amount of people stampeding through the aisles. Lots of big strollers, big backpacks, cosplayers with wings, stuff like that.

I left at 1:45, and was glad to be out of there.

Honestly, I think this might have been my last NYCC. I wanted to go back one more time after Covid, but if this is a preview of what next year will be like, I'll skip it.

i also stopped by high grade comics booth. had some nice comics. i bought my fantastic four 55 CGC 9.0 from bob

Seven of my Watchmen books were graded by a well respected grader:

If we continue to let comic book grading be the Wild Wild West, we are going to end up with a joke of an industry on the brink of failure like in the 90's. An expert in grading should be right most of the time. We have to stop this send it in blind grading that has has been proven over and over to be faulty. I am so upset with this because, I believe these grades are unfair and in order to even try to get them changed I have to spend more money.

I hate to rant but does anyone understand what i am going through? I have a Watchmen #1 and #4 that an expert tells me are a 9.8 not a 9.8- not a 9.6+ but a solid 9.8. I get both back at 9.4's. Please do not beat me up on this but how do I even know these are the books I sent?

I believe my grader, I believe his grades on the money.

Out of 7 books he gets 4 wrong. way wrong? I do not agree with that. But, the bigger problem is, it is all opinion. Instead of so black and white why why not have a 9.8+, 9.8- and 9.8? I am not sending anymore books to the CGC. I can not keep spending money on "hope" or "moods" or things could get damaged during shipping all these excuses. If CGC really wants to establish themselves as the future. Why not train people and let them grade books in locations all over th country with a drop off and pick up. Instead of a few people sitting in a room at one location. There are only about 151 Watchmen 9.8 in existence right now. My grader told me mine was a 9.8 it came back a 9.4. CGC says this expert grader missed 4 out of 7. Now, why would I send any more books to CGC when I can figure out why I got the grade I have. A miss of 1 or 2 maybe... but 4 is too many for me. Nobody's right, nobody's wrong... it is just the wild wild west of comics and we are supposed to shell out big bucks for an opinion.

I do not think I will be a part of it and I do not see a future for this type of manipulation either.

Thanks for listening to me rant, now I am going to start enjoying books again instead of spending money to cast them in an opinionated cell.

grading is subjective. i have seen books that i felt they under graded . It is what it is.

I am in the school of thought you will not be happy every time out.

But if not for CGC the prices on the raw comics might be much lower.

In my 40 years of collecting the way to trust a comic grader is by his selling experience and results in the overall big picture.

One bonus with cgc you can see there results in quicker times. it gives you the person a valid chance to judge them on orders going in and coming back out.

check the graders notes what they took off for.

and to say a comic is a 9.8 nm/mint is super hard to predict

I know, probably a dumb question, but I'm new at this. Is this considered the premier Batman issue of the BA? I'm asking in terms of possible upward movement and holding long term value. Been thinking of investing on some HG Batmans from the O'Neil/Adams run from that era and this one seems to be the most popular (and expensive) even though the story itself appears crappy and Adams (as cool as it is) only did the darn cover. Thanks for all opinions.

its one of the big keys.

black cover is hard to find in nice shape. and of course the iconic cover

I have never participated in a CGC in-house signing event...Can you specify the ink choices for signatures or do you just get what you get?

not sure if you can ask about the ink color.

if i were you just call up CGC directly and ask them over the phone this question.

CGC has excellent customer service always pick up the phone and will give you the information you need.

IF you are getting your comics signed they do a great job.
