  1. Is that high or low? Or like Goldilocks, just right? With a price point like this, I believe it could be interpreted all 3 ways. It just depends from which point of view you are looking at this from, whether you are the one of the active bidders, the consignor, or just a looky loo observor.
  2. So Bob, does this mean you have your twitching finger ready to bid some more in a few short hours from now since this Tomb of Dracula 10 here is still sitting at the bargain basement price of only $74,000:
  3. I'm with you GCG...I'm not a fan of the extra staples. Me too.. But since it is extra, I just remove em Whomever added them did so to "correct/conceal" something (detached wraps or other) Or it's quite possible that it's something kids do when they think a book is falling apart? Similar to regular scoth tape which CGC downgrades for, but does not give the PLOD to since they simply treat it as a clearly visible and obvious defect, as opposed to being done with the intent to restore and conceal the work being done.
  4. Well, since you've been here long enough to know the price trajectory of these movie related hype books, does that mean you are going to put your Wall Street hat back on and sell the sucker before it comes crashing back down to Earth by the time the movie hits the theatres?
  5. Yes indeed, it's your lucky day here. You still have a few more hours left to place some more bids on this once in a lifetime book here.
  6. You are saying the 9.8 was a 9.6??!! Unless there's more than one Twin Cities copy of this ASM #7 book here? Especially when the serial number for the old Twin Cities copy is now no longer in the system. And it's at this point here where Tim usually chimes in with his classic signature saying: "Man, I really really love this hobby" or words to that effect.
  7. Back to the original question as per the title of this thread here. Looks like we aren't quite at the peak just yet, since we still have another day for all of you lucky boardies to bid here: After all, who wouldn't bid since it's still sitting here at the bargain basement price of only $74,000 with just one more day to go.
  8. $32.5k Or just a tad over $10K more than the last time it sold for $21,510 as one of nine CGC 9.6 then highest graded copies at Heritage back in 2014:
  9. With the younger generation of BA collectors, Tomb of Dracula #10 is the next Hulk #181 and must be worth two (2) x Batman #1 Cgc 1.5 that closed at about $36k. Or dare I say, almost 5X what this tied for highest graded copy is currently going for:
  10. Now, now, this too shall pass and reality will rear its ugly head once again: After all, have you ever considered the possibilty that the bidder really meant to put in $740.00 but simply ended up putting the decimal point in the wrong spot, and now here we are at $74,000 with one more day to go for this never before seen book?
  11. Mind boggling. I knew that Boston Corbett was still alive and kicking out there and this absolutely proves it. This kind of reminds me of the NOT highest graded copy of MSH 13 going for $31,111, the FF 52 going for something like $90K, the then but no longer sole highest graded copy of Iron Man 30 going for $15,000. Wonder how the buyer will feel about his purchase by the time the Blade movie comes out.
  12. Personally, if I was the consignor of a 6-figure GA key book, let's just say that CL would not be my first choice or even my second choice for that matter in terms of the auction venue I would choose. Now, if it was a more recent lower dollar value BA or CA key book, then that would be a completely different story as CL would probably be my go to venue in that particular case.
  13. If you are a consignor, lots of time it really depends on your luck in terms of both timing and also having the right set of eyeballs on that particular auction.
  14. Well, looks like we only have another couple of hours before the final bell rings on the CL auction lots for Day 1. All I can say is that it is definitely not as much no fun to watch as compared to the CC auctions with their extended 3-minute bidding auction format.
  15. Looks like Captain Marvel must be on the rise again as I ended up being the underbidder once again. A copy and a paste of a post I made from another thread yesterday: Well, if last night's Heritage auction was any indication, it definitey looks like the good times are still here to rock and roll. Decided to do one of my very few forays into Heritage's Sunday auctions yesterday afternoon and threw in a pie in the sky crazy bid for this book here: Thought for sure that my bid would be safe and forgot all about checking back in to see if anybody would be even crazier than me. Looks like there was as some crazy fool out there went one increment higher than me and bidded $240 on the book for a final price of $288. My bad as I really should have gone back in and check, especially since I would have been willing to up my bid to $260 for an all-in price of $310 or about a 20% discount to condition guide. My problem is that I just can't figure out if we are still on a continuation of the uptrend on the $31,111 that was paid less than a year ago for the then NOT highest graded CGC 9.6 graded copy of this book or are we now over the peak and starting to hit the downward side of the chart for this red hot book here.
  16. I included tax implications in my percentages .... Have you included all of your losses for your MA newsstand comic book purcahses to offset some of your gains?
  17. I somehow suspect this book should finish a lot higher than this amount.
  18. Time to bump this thread from Page 6 back up to Page 1. Anyways, althugh the fat lady hasn't sung yet, I would definitely be feeling a little bit edgy if I was the consignor of this book here: Still sitting at only $16,250 or less than top of guide for this CGC 9.6 graded copy with only a day left to go on the CL auction site. Not sure if it's a case of the venue chosen by the consignor since Heritage was able to get 6-figures for the Church copy a few years ago and CC was able to get $64K for their non-pdigree copy last summer? Or is it just a case of too many equivalent graded copies making showing up in the marketplace in too short of a time period? Or is it nothing more than a case of me being impatient as the auction still has a long way to go yet?
  19. I really seriously don't think any of the movie audiences are leaving the theatres and going onto the comic auction sites to drop 5-figure or 6-figure dollar bids onto the Marvel keys. I think more comic book speculators and investors are entering into the comic book market hoping to make a fast buck on the flip.
  20. Well, it's now been just slightly more than a whole week of live bidding for this CC Event Auction. Looks like the action must be picking up (or not) as we now have only about 20 pages or just under 500 books that still hasn't received a single bid yet. Don't think many of these books, especially some of the GA and early SA ones, will be going for only $1. Then again, if we pray hard enough, they just might. Or not, I would imagine.
  21. You've actually got it backwards since "rare" is considered to be even harder to find than "scarce". The actual Overstreet definition of these 2 terms from this year's edition of the guide are as follows: Rare is defined as "10 - 20 copies estimated to exist", while scarce is defined as "20 - 100 copies estimated to exist". Which then begs the question: What is the term for less than 10 copies estimated to exist?
  22. The MM 3 9.4 and 9.6 are the Larson and Church and showed up only when Berk slabbed his books for the auction. Yes, didn't realize that Berk had the Larson copy of MM 3 graded as I thought he might have simply kept it raw as part of his keeper collection. Well, if the Allentown copy of Mystery Men 3 still hasn't been graded, then that means it's out of the picture and the matchup between the 2 pedigrees is down to only 9 books then. Based upon this adjustment, it looks like the Allentown came out on top in 6 out of the 9 (i.e. MM #1, #11, #13, and WW #6, #10, #13) when matched up against their Church counterpart, the same in two of them (i.e. Wonderworld's #3 & #8), with the final one being the Church copy of Wonderworld Comics 14 at CGC 8.5 just nudging out the Allentown copy of WW 14 which came in at a grade of CGC 8.0. Is anybody else here aware of graded copies of the early Fox books where both the Church and Allentown copies have already been graded?
  23. Mystery Men 3 Allentown has not been graded. I think you meant a different issue. The Allentown Wonderworld 11, while pretty, has a big spine split while the Church is a 9.6. That seems strange since the draft writeup for the Allentown Collection (dated 12/28/06) in the never to be printed Pedigree Book that I received from Timely indicated the Allentown copy of Mystery Men 3 had been graded as a CGC 9.4 copy. The draft writeup indicates Payette had the MM 3 listed as a NM copy from his point of view. It's quite possible that it might have been a typo or simply mixed up with Wonderworld 3 which was also listed as being a CGC 9.4 graded copy. As for the Wonderworld 11, that was not included as part of my comparison since I was aware of the rip from the draft writeup, but not aware that it had been officially graded to this point in time.
  24. As I can personally attest to, he most definitely loved his own name very very much.
  25. Masterchief; Good to see that you are definitely back here in full force on this particular thread here. Yes indeed, those pictures and ads definitely brings back good memories. So good in fact, that I even called that first number on the left to see if Danny boy was still there. Sad to say, but it came up as "The number you've dialled is Not In Service". Well, maybe I still have a chance with the second number as it just keeps on ringing and hopefully he'll be back home later tonight. Even though he was a snake for sure, he always had some absolutely ridiculous and hilarious story about how he couldn't talk anymore and had to get off the phone. One time it was because his Ferrari or Lamborghini or something like that was in the process of either being towed away or being broken into right in front of his store. Another time was how the two swimsuit models in the next room were still in heat as they simply couldn't get enough of him and he had to go back in to satisfy them some more since they were both screaming his name so loud that the neighbours might file a complaint. You couldn't help but to laugh at some of the wild and wacky stories he would come up with in order to blow you off. He most definitely didn't find it so funny though when the shoe was on the other foot in the end. What a little crybaby he turned out to be!!!
