Not trying to be Captain Obvious here, but are those actual tears...including the front cover?  They don't look production related.  It's almost symmetrical with the small chips/tears to the right...

They appear to be manufactured.  It seems way to even to be a tear and it’s not on the cover.  I didn’t know about that or the one groove to the right of it.

9.0 range. Newsstands from this era are always advertised as rarer (and are) but when you consider prints runs where they were, even at 10% of copies being newsstands, that's still a very large number. Generally people only go ga ga over the big key books in newsstand versions (even when these are not rare at all it seems). You may find someone who is trying to put together a newsstand run who might pay a slight premium to have but generally for a book like this one, price will be around the same as direct edition.

    Thanks!  Great insight.

9.2 close to a border line 9.4.  There are over 8000 copies of this book in 9.8 and and 75 in even higher grade. No other single issue has even half those number of 9.8's.  Even the slightest drop in demand and those 9.8's crash in value possibly down to $40-$50 again.

IMHO,  unless the specific copy you showed us holds memories for you it simply is not a book worth grading unless it's a 9.9 candidate

Thanks for the info.  It’s so funny when talking about “perfect “.  My eye isn’t trained enough to spot the color “rub” as mentioned earlier.  This is why places like these boards exist.  Much appreciated you all!
