  1. TAPE ON COVER!!!

Sad to say, as I was giving my Vampis new boards and bags, I noticed that this #16 has a small 1/2" piece of tape affixed to the bottom of the spine, to keep a 1/4" spine/bindery tear from spreading.  I didn't notice it when I was mass-scanning them all upon arrival.

    Bummer.

I think, according to Forrest Ackerman, the decision to jump the numbering from #69 to #80, using the 10 Monster World issues as an excuse, was done solely to bring them closer to issue #100.

Yeah, that's what Eric said above, too.

never heard of the mag before but that is a sweet cover !! looks like they were trying to cash in on the US/Russia space race

Perhaps that had a little something to do with it, but chronologically, this was Warren's fifth magazine title, and two of the first four were Famous Monsters of Filmland, and Favorite Westerns of Filmland/Wildest Westerns, so I think it was primarily just another genre of movies for Warren to cover.  Their next three titles continued that theme, with Screen Thrills Illustrated, Monster World, and Famous Films.

    A super sharp copy!

    Beautiful Sanjulian cover!

Just perusing these again and noticed it also has the Frazetta anti-smoking ad on the back cover.  Sanjulian on the front and Frazetta on the back?  Fuhgeddaboudit!  How is this not the most valuable issue ever (well, maybe besides #1)?

This book also has what I believe may be the first "Spirograph story" in comics. It's the first time I personally remember seeing a story so profusely filled with spirographic designs...  :gossip:

I haven't read it yet, but I'll look for it!

Cool Jones/Bode cover, which also comes in orange if you like that sort of thing. But please, don't call this one the purple variant...

I didn't know there were "variants," so that's interesting.

Classic Frazetta T-Rex cover! Jeff Jones, Tom Sutton, Billy Graham and John Fantucchio art!

How could any 10 year old boy resist?

Yeah, I really like this Frazetta too.  All the colors in the amorphous background... is there water?  Ice?  And then of course the T-Rex... and the girl is like pushing him back--"I got this!"  lol

You are on all cylinders,  hitting it outta the park. Great collection man.😎🤘

Thanks.  Yeah I was pretty floored at the unboxing; the collection was way beyond my expectations.  I just had to share.

This collection is really a great find. I thought the line art on this one looked like Wally Wood's work, so I checked the GCD, and sure enough. I see that there's also an 8 page story of his inside.

That's correct, and I haven't read it yet, but I understand that the cover is not overselling Wood's story as an instant masterpiece--it's supposed to be quite good!

Looks like Raquel Welsh 👍‼️Which is a good thing👍

"Welch," but yeah, she was one of my favorite pin-up girls in the (late) 70s--so this issue would have been around her heyday in the late 60s, early 70s.
