Misplaced staple a manufacturing defect?

I recently found this Swamp Thing #50 in perfect condition, and was excited to add it to my collection…
Later upon further inspection, I noticed it felt a bit lighter than the average comic book. I opened the book to find out it was missing the middle pages!
despite its seemingly NM condition, it became evident that the missing pages must have fallen out due to a mis-stapling defect by the manufacturer. (My speculation)
Further, I don’t believe this to be a restoration of any sort, due to no indication that this book was ever stapled on the spine.
has anyone here ever encountered such a defect? Some one please help me understand…
