Purple is no different than other colors. A fugly spine is a fugly spine no matter what the cover colors. My purple comic resents your statement..............

Idea... Instead of individual books, why not go by titles. Each week, take a different title, like X-Men, and focus on it. We can point out overlooked issues. It may help things to go faster. Also, less books will be overlooked.

CGC uses wedges in the inner well a lot more extensively these days. This allows them to encapsulate a book with overhang that, previously, they would have 'rejected'.

9.6's look good and are desirable as deslabbed raws in mylar ! Often you can purchase a slabbed 9.6 cheaper than a raw 9.6 with potential. It's all so crazy.

Indeed, you may be experienced enough to achieve the proper results. However, maybe the OP, or others reading your advice of putting a board between the paper and the cover, are not experienced and trying it would hurt the book. I just don't think you, or anyone else, should be offering pressing tips to novices. I don't see the Board doctors giving medical advice here or the Day Traders giving stock tips. It's not a matter of being protective or secretive, it's just common sense. Sorry.

Those early graded slabs often saw the book very loose in the inner well. Just the fact that it was shipped to CGC may have caused it to bang around inside the well. Those bottom corners are soft, I don't think the encapsulation caused it = it arrived at CGC that way. Can you get your money back ? I can see why you are not happy with this.

I believe your way is prone to leaving an imprint of the board on the cover, a crease at the edge of the board. Then you need to press it again to get rid of the crease. I'm not even a presser but I'm aware that sticking a board behind the cover is amateur. Sorry.

I see that tic you are referring to. I also see another tic farther down the spine. Maybe 9.6, probably 9.4, assuming everything else is perfect. Definitely not 'mint', a very loose term thrown out by some sellers.

There was another thread that discussed this in length. IMO, keeping your slabbed comics in a favorable environment is the most important factor. Some argued to reslab to get fresh micro chamber paper. Others argued the MC paper can last decades. From personal experience, I have cracked open 15 years+ slabs and noticed no ill effect on either the PQ of the book or the MC paper.

I agree. It would be nice to see either CGC or the facilitator prevent this. Maybe they should refuse to put a SS label on it.

I once owned a major Marvel key with a Restored grade of 7.5 from Glue holding a chip. I had CGC remove the glue, and hence the chip fell out. I thought the grade would stay the same because it would be regarded as a Marvel chip but it went down to 7.0 . I resubbed two more times, every time getting a 7.0 . Anyway, the fact that the book had work done on it weighed on me. Every time I looked at that book my eye went right for the chip and I thought about the chip removal. The love affair with this book was over and I moved it. It just wasn't the same any longer. I suspect the OP may feel the same.

HaHa. I know with Color Touch, CGC does look at intent, and considers accidents like a pen falling from your hand. You could say you did it while removing the book from the inner well, sliced the edge right off .

You are correct. CGC is very good about making things right and the odds are low for a mishap. However, I simply do not want to risk a reslab without having good reason in the first place. To simply 'upgrade' to a newer case is again, IMO, a waste of time and money.

I hear ya, those are good reasons. The book moving slightly inside the well is annoying and can result in damage (SCS). The scratches are annoying but at least the book is safe. With an absolute keeper book, here is what I sometimes do. I remove the inner well and put it into a new outer well. I have dozens of, near perfect condition, outer wells that were opened very carefully. The outer well is not sealed but if you keep it in a bag, it stays shut. Sounds crazy but it works.
