I've personally experienced two different 'mishaps'. First, a newly introduced corner crease. The grade didn't change, just an accident while encapsulating. My second incident involved a significantly sized cookie crumb, wedged right against the comic in the inner well. On a friend's book, I saw a corner that was sliced, probably by the knife or scissors used to remove the book. Alignment in the slab is always a risk but, interestingly enough, I have not experienced it. The only reason I will reslab is if there is damage to the slab, not to upgrade to a newer slab. What a waste of time and money.

Slight color touch recommendations
Bomber-Bob replied to Old_Man_Adam's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Sorry but, IMO, the color scrape is obvious. The crease is big and pronounced, probably the reason for the CT in the first place. Color scrapes always look so 'white' with the width and depth of the crease even bigger than the original. The book is 57 years old, let it age gracefully. I honestly don't understand how scraping material from a comic is not an Apparent Grade. The reason they give trimming an apparent grade is because something was removed. How is this any different ?- 19 replies

Amazing Spider-Man Collecting Thread!
Bomber-Bob replied to Point Five's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
There is a separate Thread for Want to Buy requests. Please move your request to that thread. This is not the proper place to buy or sell. -
This ! So true. There is not enough room to get the top and bottom of the slab protected in the flat rate box. I've had numerous situations where I received my book with a small crack in the slab. Charge me a couple bucks more for shipping and put it in a 1095 !

From your description of the crease, that it literally looked like someone had folded the paper over, and the fact that you got a 7.5 (a pretty severe downgrade), I suspect a press will do little to no good. A press would help if it's a non coloring breaking light fold but it sounds like this is a permanent crease that cannot be removed.

Restoration scale and trimming
Bomber-Bob replied to serling1978's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I think you are correct in your example, C - 1 color touch with all three edges trimmed, the C - 1 is a reference to the color touch only. The trimming is not evaluated for size or quality, it's just trimmed. The worst Purple Label you can own, nearly universally frowned upon by collectors. -
While I may not like it, I can handle most any kind of music being played except.........Country and Western.

That is one difference. Also, look at the inside FC and the Back Cover, all referring to the comic and record set.

I hope you realize this is a Reprint ?

Does everyone realize this is the Golden Record Reprint and not the original ? I hope the OP knew this as he mentioned getting it for a nice price ?????

ASM 300 Edge. What is this?
Bomber-Bob replied to LT212's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
It should. I know I would not want to buy a high grade slab and see this. -
Great book, Venom Black Error Variant ! It looks so good with the old Red Label, PLEASE don't get it reslabbed. I think the Red Label, adds value and I would not chance the possibility of a mishap with reslabbing. 9.6, in an old label is a great grade. Unless you absolutely see a pressable defect that is holding it to 9.6 don't get it pressed, especially if it's a keeper. I cannot imagine popping the staple from a press. Respect the integrity of the book in it's pure, original state.

Agreed but the centering, unless in an uber grade like 9.9 territory, is not a factor for CGC regarding the grade. This is why I am in favor of an eye appeal check mark on the label like their competition does. CGC may feel the eye appeal is obvious, bad centering is obvious, but in fact, it is oblivious to many. Some have eyes for only the grade. Crazy.
-
You are correct about CGC being inconsistent with this. Note all our examples are in the new labels = all graded recently. It always amuses me when people want to know how would CGC grade something or how would CGC treat this or what is the highest grade with this flaw, etc.,etc., etc. It all goes to show, there are no rules and all we can offer is educated guesses based on experience. It's crazy I tell ya !

I have two, CGC graded books with printing errors in Blue Labels. Here is one.........................

Glass, I think the white stripe you are referring to is from the backing board behind the book.

It looks like a stain, if so I think the book is down to 7.5 range.

How to get a blank comic sketched?
Bomber-Bob replied to Spawn1709's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I thought the whole point of the SS service is the guarantee of authenticity because it was witnessed. An artist could get tired of signing and use a stamp or an electronic signature, just too many ways to fake it. 'If' CGC accepts a COA from an artist, IMO the integrity of the whole program is suspect. You may be right but, for the sake of the program, I hope not. @CGC Anybody out there know the rules ? -
How to get a blank comic sketched?
Bomber-Bob replied to Spawn1709's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Well, I'm looking at the CGC website and the very first Q&A states that it must be done in the presence of a CGC representative. However, a later Q&A states in 'select instances' they will accept it directly from the artist. So, very contradictory answers. I am very confused. -
How to get a blank comic sketched?
Bomber-Bob replied to Spawn1709's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I may be wrong but I don't think the CGC SS program accepts a COA or affidavit or whatever from the artist. It has to be done in the presence of a CGC representative, period. -
