  1. Yup. He strikes fear into the hearts of criminals.
  2. A great character that was mocked undeservedly in GOTG 2.
  3. A villain that might be badass if only he wasn’t so random and ridiculous, the Doom Patrol’s classic and unforgettable enemy, Codpiece.. No, probably just ridiculous.
  4. While it’s an obvious pairing of the Earth 2 versions of Batman and Catwoman, this is a great story by Alan Brennert…
  5. At least I got Guice correct. That said, I always wondered if there was some underlying reason involved in him switching between calling himself ‘Butch’ and then ‘Jackson’ periodically, all the time throughout his career?
  6. Byrne’s a fairly common name in Britain, so I always got this one right. However, back in the 70s I knew a couple of local comic book geeks who pronounced it ‘Brine’ all the time. In the early days this was common, leading to the artist getting nicknamed ‘Salty’ by some other, possibly dyslexic fans.
  7. Surprised with Janson, as he was born in Germany and so I’ve always gone with the more common, native German pronunciation, whereas to me that sounds like it was changed after emigration to the States. Maybe?
  8. Sometimes it’s best not to think too hard about situations like this. Another example is The Beast swinging from a trapeze on the cover of X-Men 1.
  9. ‘The Power you need’ is always worrisome as an indication of high sugar content. Interesting, but I can get a large jar of really nice instant for £2 over here. $18’s a bit expensive, unless they’re using that ‘specially processed’, high-end civet blend.
  10. When the boardies here are discussing Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice, I assume we all mean the Ultimate Edition? Which is great, IMO.
  11. Seemed to recall it. Had a paperback copy of it, decades ago now.
  12. Rom's good news. That would be a very readable collection, beginning to end.
  13. It would end up basically being a Complete Machine Man Omnibus.
  14. Star Hawks? Kane's newspaper strip?
  15. One of my favourite comics of the 90s; excellent story and artwork, an atypically dense read for the time period, and a nice change to the all-pervasive poster artwork and minimal dialogue style back then. I remember spending a while reading and rereading this, finding it quite engrossing.
  16. One of my all-time favourites; JLA, JSA, and the re-introduction of the Quality Comics’ Freedom Fighters. Great Nick Cardy cover as well.
  17. Garcia-Lopez artwork is always a win for me. Great books.
  18. I got to thinking more about the 100 pagers from DC that I loved as a kid back in the 70s, and my favourite run was the Archie Goodwin-edited Detective Comics; great new stories and an inspired selection of reprints. The Goodwin / Simonson Manhunter serial is extremely memorable, especially the conclusion, Götterdämmerung, in which Manhunter teams up with Batman. Widely recognised as an all-time classic, and I agree.
  19. Possibly what held him back was that creators were reluctant to use a character with a costume quite that difficult to draw. It’s a tough one.
  20. Marvel Team-Up 1 Beloved by me ever since I read it in a Treasury Edition back in the 70s, and by many other soft-hearted comics geeks as well. Not necessarily anything particularly special about the issue until the ending, which is one of the most uplifting, heartwarming, seasonal Yuletide conclusions to a comic ever published.
