  1. It depends on what they are buying. 15 years ago we had the same discussion on the boards about SA keys and BA keys and how prices were unsustainable. CA books are now where BA was back then. History is just repeating itself. Now, if they are chasing variant covers, then yes, I see bad news on the horizon. However, for 1st apps of characters that are still in print/video games/movies, they will be fine.
  2. I still see them for cheap at stores every so often that have staff that just put old stock out without flipping through it first. Over the past four years I have nabbed 3 copies at $4 CDN from one store, or full guide when they were stickered..........
  3. Just catching up here, and the OP should feel fortunate it graded that high. It is an 8.0 at best due to the wear along the spine without the other scuffing. Those scuffs should have dropped it lower IMHO.
  4. Clone Wars is/was brilliant when it came out IMHO. I loved watching it with the kids when they were young, and now I get to rewatch it with them again when they are 15 and 16.
  5. It was a fair price for the LCS, consignor and I - we all had to give a bit to make the deal happen. The #3 and #4 are trashed, unfortunately - 3 has a lot of tape (the owner made a new tip out of tape where the piece is missing in the top right corner) and 4 has the spine reinforced in a couple of spots so it is restored/conserved (looks like it was a CC auction win or purchase based on the label on the bag). The rest of the books are nice mid grade copies for the most part. The copy of #50 does have a CGC 8.0 label in the back of the mylar, and is likely the best of bunch.
  6. Thanks. The consignor accepted my offer on the whole lot so it worked for both of us.
  7. Just bought these today from my file LCS on consignment
  8. And, if they published the characters in GN format, they already have distribution in place to deliver them. It would hurt LCSs, though, which would not be good for the hobby.
  9. I know one boardie that cleaned out all the 7-11 and other newsstands he could hit between Edmonton and Calgary to accumulate a similar stash.
  10. Since the Batman #181 CGC 9.8 from their November auction has its own thread, this stunning copy deserves one as well. The Alfred Pennyworth collection is such an amazing set of Batbooks. https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/a-written-description-will-be-available-soon/p/7239-12008.s?ic16=ViewItem-BrowseTabs-Auction-Preview-ThisAuction-120115#
  11. I am sorting boxes tonight and just found this set that has not sold at $40 in my sets box from when it was priced 2-3 years ago, thankfully. The are all tucked away in mylites now. I just have to see if I still have a few other CDN #1s that I thought I still have tucked away someplace.
  12. That is an amazing sale price if you holding copies of Batman #181. I was surprised it hit that high with there being 3 CGC 9.8 copies, but I am glad it did. Batman #181 has long been undervalued IMHO since it is one of only two big SA Batvillain true 1st appearances (Mr. Freeze in Batman #121 being the other). Let's hope this sale floats prices higher across all grades.
  13. Good for the seller. Not quite the $100k he initially thought, but better than I expected for Western drek.
  14. That does not surprise me. It has always sold well - DW has a huge fan base.
  15. There is a difference in speculating on minis and ongoing series. For minis now, the new characters/big events tend to be mid to late issues. If you are bulk ordering 50 or more copies at a discount and think there is potential, you do the whole set and don't worry about missing it.
  16. Okay. So now is the time to add a few extra copies of DoT then. Thanks.
  17. Not necessarily. It could also mean that speculators are buying the entire set to flip since you don't know what else will happen in the end.
  18. Department of Truth seems to be developing some momentum. Are there TV/movie rumours, or is it just a good read?
  19. Agreed. I like 9.4s personally as the market is less fickle if you need to sell.
  20. Those are the price tags and grades the OO had to try to sell the books. All were significantly overgraded to start with if you look at the original video, and as has been posted in this thread, the raw books are being overgraded again by CC in the auctions.
  21. Looks like the bottom right corner damage could have happened in the slab, unfortunately. It is still a gorgeous copy.
  22. You're only saying that because your basement is full of similar stuff.
  23. Looking at GPA, there is a bit of a contagno going on with GSX 1 in 9.4 vs 9.6 - the latest 9.4 sales are at the same level as 9.6s. Now is a good time to buy a 9.6 in that case IMHO as 9.4s are hitting $6-$6.5K, 9.6s are still in the $6ks, and 9.8s are close to $20k.
  24. I am sorry for your loss, Cat. My condolences and best wishes to you during this time.
