Nice holiday books. I think once I tried to get a holiday-themed "Show us your..." thread, but it went absolutely nowhere. We should try again this year, maybe just after Thanksgiving.
-
I believe the "Good Neighbors" story was in a recent Gemstone reprint - I pick up the 2 regular comics and 2 deluxe-sized ones they put out monthly. Is that where you are getting your scans?

The fact that Henry Travis loved his name is the only thing that made that book affordable for me...

Moving away from superheroes...

Is it just me, or does that Superman #31 look an awful lot like this one, and this one's about a year earlier...

Here's a key one...
-
Another one...

This one is in great shape - IMO, a truly classic cover, and has the 1st appearance of the Scarecrow!! Definitely one of the better-condition copies around.
-
How about this one?

Thought I'd throw this one up...

I know my true comic collection did not even double in that time frame mostly because of a few slightly restored key books that I bought. As I said before, one bad purchase can eat up the profit of ten good purchases.
Now with CGC, the chance of making a really bad purchase has been minimized, yet the chance of getting a great deal is also minimized.
Truer words were never spoken...

Just received from Jef Hinds today...

Thanks ghoulaid and povertyrow - the scans of the book are what attracted me to it - the front cover definitely looks better than VG, but a small tear and some small missing pieces to the back cover are what brought the grade down, I suppose. All in all, I'm pleased.

My first Heritage auction win - just got it today...

1) Is any of the "lightness" on the cover of the "BB's Christmas Funnies" actually on the cover, or is that on the surface of the slab? I've got a number of high grade Dell Giants and early Four Colors, some of which have that sort of sporadic cover wear...I'm guessing the comic above is clean in that regard and these 'blemishes' are on the slab?
2) How about a "Ho-Ho-Have A Cigar" thread in the Comics General area, for Xmas holiday covers from all eras? I've got a Holiday Comics #5 with L.B. Cole Christmas cover that I'll post when I get home...
Yep, it's on the slab. Didn't notice it before, and now that I've seen it, it's driving me crazy. Damn you for pointing this out!!!
On #2, sure, let's start one. I have some cool unslabbed Christmas books to post.

I bid on that book along with the #2. Very very sweet.
I got it off ebay earlier this year (mid-March) from JP The Mint. I don't recall about the #2. Nice book to pull out this time of year...

Just to get us all in the Christmas mood...

About a G+/VG-, I think. In hand, the silver lightning bolt really shines, even on a rather worn copy such as this one...

Awesome stuff man...somebody sell me a low-mid grade (okay, high grade OK too) copy of this book! A-list tradebait available!
You mean like the one on p2 of this thread??

Just got in the mail today, and threw it on the scanner:

That's a nice book (Four Color 9)
btw... there's an error in CGC label, it incorrectly says "Carl Barks cover" then it isn't.
I never realized the FC9 cover wasn't Barks art, and the CGC label said it was. You know, I often thought about starting a thread of CGC label errors, but figured it would get no participation. I have an Aquaman #62 (1st series) that's labeled as #67 - the series ended at #63 or so - there was no #67 issued. I would be interested to see some other CGC errors people have noted.
Have a Cigar! Golden Age only....!

You may want to also inform CGC, in case it's "set free", then sent in for re-certification. I don't know how much help that will be, but from what I understand, the folks at CGC are straight-up people who most likely will do what they can to watch out for it.
