  1. Of the 3 main comic stores in London, Orbital would be my pick for the 'best' one. Decent back issue section and some OA as well. They also have an exhibition space which occasionally has some interesting stuff. Probably the best all-round comic store in the capital. It's long been my place to pick up the latest comics.

Gosh aren't so great for back issues but they do have some really fun, quirky stuff that you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else. They also have some nice OA available too.

Forbidden Planet is as corporate as they come and, as said above, should be avoided.

30th Century Comics is further out from the centre but not too far out. Tons of back issues but quite a lot of pence copies and grading is not brilliant. Good place to pick up non-keys in average grades though.

US based comic collectors (and indeed any collectors from outside the UK) are probably best advised to come over here when the London Super Comic Con is on. It's the only con we have which comes closest to what you have in the States. Dealers such as Bob Storms and Harley Yee are regulars as are Metropolis. Usually a good range of guests too although it hasn't been too strong on Silver and Bronze Age creators in the past couple of years IMO. Plenty of accommodation nearby and although the surrounding area isn't great, you can get into the centre of town easily and fairly quickly.

  2. Good to know that books submitted at LSC have started to arrive back into the UK. Hopefully, it won't be long before I get mine. Did anyone get notification from CGC that their items were en route or did they just show up randomly?

  3. 25. Started collecting 3 years ago and used this forum regularly for over a year. I ended up selling much of my collection after getting too carried away and needed to raise some cash. Stan Lee's imminent visit to the UK has revived my interest and I'm now tentatively back in the game.

  4. There's a great Showcase #22 for sale here:

Showcase 22 VG- (very nice color strike)

last slabbed 3.5 sold for $1500 in April 2010... take this one for only...

    $825

I've just bought it. I guess that means I'm now a member of this club. (thumbs u

Post it for the club when it arrives. (thumbs u

Will do. I can't wait until it arrives.

  5. Is Showcase 23 one of the key GL books to get as well? Obviously, the 2nd appearance of the character won't command as much as the 1st but would it nevertheless be a good alternative if you can't afford even a 0.5 copy of SC 22? One of the LCS' near me has a 6.0 that is tempting me greatly.

  6. Why is GL 7 blowing up so much? Is it solely because of it featuring Sinestro's first appearance or are there other factors involved?

He's the Joker (Sinestro) for Green Lantern.

I see. Given the rising interest in this issue, is it worth picking up in any grade?

It's worth it for flipping and if you are looking of 6.0+ it will cost you 4 to 6 times guide.

    How about 3.0-4.0?

    $125-175 is a good range.

Cool. Thanks for answering my questions.

  8. As Rick said, keep your eye out for dealers that are note aware of the current market. I landed this copy for $75 from one who runs banner ads on the boards a couple of months ago:

Nice copy. What grade is that? Also, what dealers from outside of the boards are reliable with their grades?
