  1. Went yard saling with the girlfriend this morning and most were duds. But the last one we stopped at i scored pretty big. Here's what i found...

Only one comic related item, too bad about the condition though.

    100_3462.jpg

A fawcett detective mag from 1948

    100_3457.jpg

And about 25 books from 1897to 1950. Here's the best out of the bunch. I was pretty excited to see the wreck of the circus because to my understanding, it's a tough one to find.

And this is the thing that gave me that rush of finding something cool at a yard sale. And 50 cents, there was no way this wasn't coming home with me.

    100_3459.jpg

It has the original label inside of it too, here's a couple close up pics...

    100_3460.jpg

    100_3461.jpg

    The label says...

    W. A. Gaines & Co. Distillers Frankfort, Kentucky

On and after September 1st, 1892, all Old Crow Whiskey bottled by us will be sold under this label. We guarantee the whisky contained in this bottle to be genuine old Crow when sold under our unbroken seal.

    F.W. Hunt &Co. Boston, Mass

And on the bottom of the bottle it has imprints stating the last sentence above.

Any bottle junkies here? Would you happen to know anything about this bottle? Age, Worth? I havn't dwelled to much into bottle but my g/f's grandpa is a bottle collector so i bought it for his birthday.

Nice pick up on the bottle. I would guess that the bottle dates from about the time of the label. Late 1800's. It appears to be a molded glass bottle (there appears to be a seam lime where it was molded) instead of blown glass and the fact that it has the lettering on the bottom of the bottle. Definitely a nice piece for display in you grandad's collection. Sorry I have no estimate on value.

  2. Here's the box. What did I find in it?

    Box.jpg

    ASM #1? A double cover comic? 50 copies of X-Force #1?

I bought all of the Marvel and DCs from this box. About 72 books total. Here are some highlights.

Holy Stromboli Batman! Great find! (worship)

I was in his kitchen drooling on them a day and a half ago.

Dang the JLA 1 paid for the whole lot and more. 3.5 for sure after press, shot at 4.0.

    ^^

$4 a book... that estate sale paid off. :headbang:

    Very Very Cool!

Had some Lois Lanes in the 20s that were nice mid grade, and a bunch of nicer mid grade Adam Strange too.

  3. I hate seeing War comics slip off the first page.

I know I forgot to post these few books I got from Shep late

    last year.

Love this one and it has a great Heath story and art.

I shouldn't post this until all the payments are made and it's such a relief

to finally replace my old Beautiful copy I sold like a dummy. I was even

ready to over pay Metropolis for a CGC 8.0 copy one day if they still had

    it.

I have always loved that OFF cover. (thumbs u

    Nice Pick ups!

  4. Sweet Atlas book Richard and are you starting to go after those now

too? (shrug) Didn't you hear Dan say those books aren't very popular

right here on these boards about a week ago? hm

    That is a Beauty!! :cloud9:

Nice grab at the thrift store and what are the odds of finding those two

key books. Nice work and great books. :luhv:

I was at the Post Office today to mail Andy is last 150.00 of well hidden

cash so it's untraceable to that rotten buggar I live with  and the

Postie tells me there's a package for me and sure enough it's from our

good friend Andy. :o What an awesome lot of 29 books. :cloud9:

I've got some scanning to do and here's a small sample.

    Thanks again Andy!! (worship)

I really shouldn't say my Husband is a rotten buggar and he's pretty cool

about most of my purchases... or the ones he knows about. :)

    Love that OAAW Grey tone!

  5. Thanks Guys. I PM'd Shep about the GI Combat 44 since I was pretty sure it was a key. These were the only 2 books the guy had amidst a lot of 90's toys and other drek. I saw the 44 and new there was something about it, but could not remember. I am glad I pulled the trigger.

These boards have certainly opened my eyes over the last 2 years I have been here. I might have passed on these before.

  6. Obviously there are double cover collectors, but out of 15k+ comics I own, mostly picked up as back issues, I have only one. So there u go.

Same with me. I don't have 15,000 books, but of the several thousand I do own only one is a double cover.

  7. Hey guys, My 1000th post!! Can't think of a better place to announce it. Great to be a member of the club!

Kudos on #1000! Only fitting you use it in a thread about the book featuring the birth of your Avatar's namesake hero. (thumbs u

    Thanks guys!
