  1. There was a library sale a couple hours from me yesterday that was advertised on Craigslist. They said they had 5,000 books from 1985-2009, really not my wheelhouse or focus but I figured you never know and decided to make the trip.

I looked through a couple boxes and found a couple decent books and decided to ask about the price as I didn't see and price listed anywhere. The lady replied .25 cents! I asked her if that was for any single comic and she said yes, any comic is .25 cents. By this time unfortunately there were several people sorting through the comics but I was able to get a nice pile of 101 comics by the time I left.....

Complete run of DC 52 weeks

Not bad for .25 cents each!

  2. I went and talked to someone yesterday about buying a rather large collection and had some time to kill afterwards so I decided to head to an antique shop/mall that was nearby that I don't get to much and do some box searching. It has a huge back issue drek selection of around 30 long boxes or so for .50 a book and was able to find these.....

    IMG_2093.jpg

It also has several comic dealers that usually have some good books to look through and was able to buy these......Another fun day of searching through boxes :whee:

  3. Friday I got a call from a seller I have previously purchased from on craigslist saying he had some more comics to looks through. I went and was able to purchase these books, some not in the best condition but nice none-the-less:

On Sunday I decided to drive about 3 hours and check out a flea market and wasn't expecting much in the way of comics but there is a nice comic shop that I go to anytime I am in the area and figured what the heck, even if there was nothing at the market I could still grab some books there.

The flea market wasn't that bad, got there late but still grabbed these books, the X-men books are in great condition:

  4. After responding to several craigslist ads that never got anywhere I finally was able to purchase a few boxes of books. It was about 4 small boxes of Indie/modern drek :P but the price was right so I hauled them home went to bed.

I sorted through the boxes today and here are the better comics from the boxes. Didn't think I would find anything so I am very happy with the books (thumbs u

  5. I can't get over how blown away you guys are that I get up at 3 am

Here's what we got. 37 books. Mostly war titles. Just got the poor guys bagged and boarded for their first time. I did notice some coupons clipped, detached CFs and Covers at 1 staple on a few. Stains and creases here and there. The Sgt Fury 1 has a stain and small rip on FC. Lots of waviness that can be pressed.

  6. A friend of mine from work texted me this afternoon about a local estate sale he was at and thought I might be interested in a couple things as he knows I collect comics. It was a long day with birthday parties and such so I wasn't going to go because he said the sale started Friday and it was around 4 pm Saturday so I figured any good stuff was gone. He then sent a picture and I was out the door and got to the sale 15 minutes later and purchased this for $40 :cloud9:

Needs a clean since it's barn fresh and a couple rack wires need to be re soldered but still very happy to find this since I have been looking for several years. Always helps to have extra people looking for you (thumbs u

    IMG_1794.jpg

    IMG_1796.jpg

Nice Score! And an amazing price too. They are still out there!

Question on these - some obvious rust spots up top - I would assume cleaning and repair work (resoldering loose wires, black paint) - Or restoration work is not frowned upon? - If I ever find one I doubt that I would resell it - but I would not want to ruin it by restoring ......

Leave it alone. It is a survivor!

I plan on giving it a good bath because this was found in the back of a barn/storage area and had been there for many years according to person who sold it to me, it has plenty of cob webs and mouse droppings as proof.

I do not plan to repaint it at all as the paint really isn't in that bad of shape. I like the rust spots and all the dents as it gives it character and shows the history and age .

I do however need to re-solder the lose rack wires (there is only 3 that need this done) because I have a 3 year old in the house and don't want any lose wires with him running around. Other than that I plan on leaving it in as found condition! And like someone mentioned, I plan on keeping this and will never want to sell this, so a couple new solder fixes isn't going to matter all that much.

  8. It seems to me if this Spiderman offer isn't what a single person considers worth grabbing this thread has pretty much been narrowed down to those that have already participated. Could be wrong but I'm thinking people really are afraid to grab something.

    This is wrong.

I'd love to participate, but the offers I would have claimed were taken before I had a chance.

I already have most all of the comics in current offer thats been up for the past few days.

I'm sure there are others like me. Who visit the boards usually about once a day. The 30 day rule is good if you want more participation.

    +1

    .....back to lurking :shy:

  9. Hi guys :hi:,

My name is Scott and have been a member of the boards for over three years now but don't post too often as you can tell from my post count. So I figured I should introduce myself and give a quick history and bio.

As a young kid I remember hating comics! I recall my friend would drag me into the LCS that had tight spaces between all the boxes, creaky steps up to the store, even a creepy comic guy/owner behind the counter....wasn't a fan. I also remember my mother would actually buy me piles of comics and bring them home for me to read and I still wasn't interested. Don't get me wrong, I liked the characters and such; like Batman, Superman and all... I even had Spiderman sheets and pillow cases for crying out loud......just didn't like to read the comics.

That changed about 7 years ago when I went to an auction and bid on a box lot and won. As by chance in the bottom of that box were two ASM comics, I don't remember the exact issues but there was something about looking at them that fascinated me. My love for comics, and especially comic art/artists and covers was born.

Today I am on a first name basis with the creepy guy that owned the comic shop from my childhood, and he has moved to a new location without any creaky steps.

I collect any Silver/Bronze age book that I like with emphasis on keys and ASM as I am trying to finish my ASM run from 1-301. Lately I have had to slow down my collecting as my wife and I had our first child, a son last April and he now takes up most of my time and money (but worth ever penny). And to anyone who is still reading after all of that; thanks and it is finally over!

  11.

For posterity, especially when purchasing a slabbed copy, some people prefer to own something with their own birth month in black and white.

The inconsistencies between publishers and time periods just makes me feel even more "meh" about the argument. I want something that says MY birth month on it. And seeing as I couldn't have read any comics when I was only a few weeks old, and I certainly couldn't have read the "true published month" issue while in the womb, I am perfectly happy to display my birth month books that display my birth month.

    Just my two cent rantrant

Exactly my thinking. I was aware of the publishing offset time but to have it written makes it feel like your actual birthday comic. Think of it as a birthday present that was mailed to you by a family member ahead of time in order to reach you on your birthday but might have been delayed in transit :)

So it was sent Canada Post?

    :baiting:
