  1. I am curious now, especially since you were with me when I purchased this comic book at ECCC. I wonder though, did any kid who read that when it was released follow the ideals of Stan Lee. Comic books were such an under appreciated medium of story telling. My mother hated me reading them. Why? I have no idea, maybe she thought they were childish, however for some reason I picture her being forced to burn a few comic books in 54'

As a teen I always skipped over Stan's Soapbox, it was just too much to read, now, it's not enough.

  2. Dear Prof,

I'm glad to read you liked the original journal enough to actually remember it.

I was just in Midtown Comics this afternoon, scoping out the vintage racks, but ended up buying some variant covers of Guardians of the Galaxy 5 with Angela.

I have yet to tell anyone at Midtown Comics the story about ACA Comix. I kinda feel like a heel about it... like I "stole candy" from my favorite store.

Anyway... I'm so happy to have this in my collection. It is for me my one and only bonafide holy grail... so rare, so unique, and for the moment, on the top of CGC census in terms of grade... I really feel blessed to have it.

If they didn't know what they had, then it is no fault of their own, besides they probably made money off their Guardians of The Galaxy variant. It's a good book and one of those diamonds in the rough that you love to hear about, glad it was you. Cherish it, because I know you love it.

  3. In case he doesn't come back, I think there is a Claremont sig across Vindicator's torso.

Yes, It was indeed Chris Claremont.I purchased the book in Baltimore to get another book cheaper. I was going to have the book pressed and graded but decided to have the book signed and pressed another time. I was ecstatic that I wouldn't have to press this book after all....the other one however I still might.

  4. What a good question. I submitted four books last year for a signing with Stan Lee. Out of the three he had something to do with, whether he wrote the one, or edited the other, or crated the character for the third. It was the fourth I thought about with the most difficulty of sending in. He had nothing to do with. It of course was a copy of New Mutants #1......please may I one day be able to get that signed by Chris Claremont. As it is mentioned above, Stan Lee's time on this earth is Finite and sometimes the signature on a book we cherish by him gives us the solace that we have something that once touched his hands. Three of the four books I got signed I might very well sell, it is that fourth book that means something to me that I shall keep and cherish. So how valuable is Stan Lee's autograph...... it is only as valuable as what you want to spend.
