  1. I'm going to a convention in December, and want to get my copy of Edge of Spider-Verse #5 (2014) signed by Kimiko Glenn, the voice of Peni Parker in Into the Spider-Verse. I've been posting this on several different pages here, just trying to get whatever information I can about the CGC authentication process before I go. Now I'm here, and I want to ask if it's possible to just get an autograph witness without sending it to get graded and slabbed after. In addition to CGC'S normal fees, the facilitator that will be at the con charges $10 to witness non-celebrities, $20 to witness celebrities, and doesn't provide a distinction between the two on their website. I just want to show the autograph is authentic; I'm not really interested in what grade the book itself gets, and I know the whole thing would be cheaper if CGC itself was at the con instead of a facilitator anyway. Does just having it witnessed provide anything like a COA, or would I have to send it off for grading and slabbing to get anything like that, period?
  2. Thanks for the advice. I'm the same way when it comes to my other collectibles, like action figures and Funko Pops: collect what you like and enjoy experiences; don't do it for money. I guess my being a noob to comics made me buy into the hype of "Witnessed over not." If CGC was really going to be at my con, not just a facilitator, I probably would get it graded, because they don't charge witnessing fees or nickel-and-dime nearly as bad as at least One Stop Comic Shop, my con's facilitator, seems to. In addition to CGC's submission fees, they charge $10 to witness non-celebrities, $20 for celebrities, and they don't explain which is which. So I bought this book for $28.94 including shipping, and want to have it signed by Kimiko Glenn, the voice of Peni Parker in Into the Spider-Verse. That's another $50. I could go to the JSA booth at the con, where they charge $10 to give your item a sticker with a number and a matching COA, but for some reason, I guess buying into the hype, I was only ever against doing it for the comic. I'm just now realizing how ridiculous that could sound, but I don't know, I think I was against the idea of the sticker distracting from the cover, and not wanting it on the back either. You know CGC's graded cases are really cool looking, and CGC is also the most prestigious. 😅
  3. Really? I was told on another board here: "a witness sig, which is a regular yellow label, would be sought after more than a JSA yellow label. Witnessed signature is the regular process for that, JSA is where you have an unwitnessed signature, and they analyze it at CGC and critique whether they 'think it is authentic.' Which mistakes 'can happen.'" That gave me the impression that even if my book wasn't graded "high enough to be worth it," the fact that the signature was witnessed would balance it out, adding enough perceived value on its own. If I needed to sell it at some point in the far future, someone would say, "Sure, it's not a high grade, but at least I know the signature is 1,000% real." Then again, I'm just a noob trying to learn for the next 5 months or so
  4. I know the pictures are , and I kinda figured I'd be in the hole, but I'm doing the best I can with what I've got. When I get something autographed, I usually just do JSA at the con. Since this is a comic, not a toy or print, I figured I'd use the CGC authenticator instead. Mostly it's about the experience, not potential money from the grade. I guess I just wanted to show it off and see what people thought. 😞
  5. I finally got the courage and gloves to take this recent eBay buy out of the bag and take pictures. I was able to catch some pretty standard stuff. (I did a ton of YouTube research, because this is my first comic I want autographed and graded.) The cover is wavy, typical modern Marvel; the spine is white and doesn't appear to have any ticks to my eye, and there's a crease in the lower right corner. These are the best I could take with my phone. I was worried enough putting it back in the bag let alone to scan it, and I know I don't have a scanner good enough anyway. I apologize in advance.
  6. @dbcn I finally gathered the courage and gloves to open the bag and do this. I've been studying some of the signs to look for, and I found: the waviness common in modern Marvel comics, a white spine from shipping, and a small crease on the bottom right corner. Otherwise, everything is clean, the edges are sharp, no missing pages. I don't think there's any spine ticks or thunb-press bends but it's possible I missed them. I hope I haven't incurred any damage by doing this, and I apologize in advance for only taking pictures with my phone. Let me know what you think. Be gentle 😅
  7. Of course! I've met people like Christopher Lloyd, Dave Foley, Wayne Knight, and Will Friedle, so "This ain't my first rodeo," but like I said at the top, comics are a whole different animal for me, and if I'm going to get comic sig. authenticity done, I wanna do it right
  8. Seriously, thank you, @dbcn for giving me ALL the info and experience you can, positive and negative. I know guests charge different rates for different items and perks, so like you said, I try to bring extra money and determination. I just figured this place was the best way to get a first-timer's crash course for comics. Boy, have I not been disappointed! I'll definitely start a new post when the book arrives (Thursday or Monday), and when the book is signed (December 6-8).
  9. Thank you! @RockMyAmadeus I thought that sounded shifty! I guess they can charge whatever they want, but in my experience, most con guests are just as happy to meet fans as we are to meet them. The money is nice, but they don't typically divert from their posted fees. Then again, maybe I've just been blessed 😅
  10. @ADAMANTIUM It does. I put in a submission inquiry to the site this morning, before I read yours and @dbcn's really insightful comments. Now I just have to wait a few days to see if they get back to me. I'm trying to plan ahead as much as I can, that's just the kind of guy I am, and I'm trying to do this whole thing "right," knowing that every event and person is different. This really helped me figure out what to expect and what works for me, and I appreciate it a ton. So thanks, guys. I'll probably be back here when the book comes Thursday the Monday coming.
  11. This is what I was able to find from One Stop Comic Shop's website, in addition to all of CGC's fees: FACILITATION/SUBMISSION FEE: $10 per book, $25 per magazine. EVENT WITNESSING FEE: +$10 per signature (non-Celebrity), or +$20 per signature (Celebrity) I'm not sure what the difference between the categories is for. Can you elaborate? I really appreciate all your comments and help, @ADAMANTIUM
  12. I want to get this comic, the first appearance of Peni Parker and SP//dr, autographed by Kimiko Glenn, the voice of Peni in Into the Spider-Verse, at Galaxycon Columbus in December. One Stop Comic Shop will be there, but I don't know how much it'll cost there, if I need JSA authentication for the autograph as well, or if getting it autographed by Kimiko would affect the grade of the comic. If you could help shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it
  13. I'm attending Galaxycon Columbus in December, and I want to get my copy of Edge of the Spider-Verse #5 (2014) signed by Kimiko Glenn, the voice of Peni Parker in Into the Spider-Verse, and graded by One Stop Comic Shop at the event. The problem is, I've never done this before, and don't know what to expect? How much would it cost, and would getting it autographed need JSA authentication as well?
