Why does CGC have to acknowledge any stand at all? I think you're reaching for something that's probably unknowable and not exactly pertinent to their core business of grading comic books. Whether Stan was a fraud or not has nothing to do with CGC's business model.

Don Rosa has been selling recreation covers with "duck" characters like this for years. I picked up an Avengers #4, Thor #112, and ASM #14 many years ago at a con in AZ.

I bought a few of these in 1970. They were a nickel each if I remember correctly.
