  1. a friend of mine submitted one comic for ss at the heroes con in june and this was his first time and from the turn around times on the website he thought it would be back around august so needless to say he will never submit anymore.somethings just got to give with these delays. i love cgc but #@!%
Exactly my point. How many potential submissions will never happen because of instances like this?

    PLENTY.

CGC is losing MANY potential customers and alienating their current ones.

They have so much business they simply don't care. If they did, they would inform us all of their expansion plans. Public relations is not their strong suit obviously.

It's good to be a de facto monopoly. No competition.

  2. I think CGC needs to get on the ball right now, I mean 80 days for a turnaround time is pretty pathetic and ridiculous IMO. I understand they got hit hard with the moderns and all but more work means you need more workers and at the prices they charge I'm sure they can afford to do so. With all the new interest in comics right now I don't see that turnaround time going down anytime soon so I really think it's on CGC to come up with a solution on how to address this problem with turnaround times because there obviously is one

Why get more workers? That will cut into their profits.

Again, CGC is a de facto monopoly.

If you don't want to wait 80+ days for turnaround time, you can choose not do get your raw comic book slabbed. Or, you can pay the more expensive "fast track" fee and get your books back in a more reasonable time frame.

    The choice is your's.

  3. At this point I wouldn't bet on turnarounds getting any faster any time soon. As more and more books are subbed as fast track it's just going to push everything else further behind. Just my opinion but I think it's time for CGC to expand, there's obviously demand for their services and if they take the leap and do it, it will certainly help retain some customers who might be on the fence about whether or not the turnaround times are worth getting books graded.

Many have posted this sentiment ad infinitum to no avail.

CGC is a de facto monopoly, and they want to shepard people to their "fast track" tier for BIGGER profits.

I doubt you will see expansion any time soon.

I predict the bulk of CGC's business will be "fast track," and that suits them fine.

    I feel your angst!

Apparently, it is virtually impossible to get either a 9.9 or 10.0 from CGC.

    Scarcer then hen's teeth!

Thanks for the great thread, and I appreciate you letting us take this exciting journey with you. We were all vicariously feeling your anticipation as you waited to hear back from CGC.

P.S. I would also like to know how you got those 9.6s if you cherry picked the best copies. Seems like a raw deal to me.

  5. Hey all. Just re-read the rules. What forms of payment should we accept if paypal can't be used? Cash?...Western Union (god forbid)?

    Thanks!

Paypal can be accepted no problem. It's Paypal personal that can't be solicited as an accepted form of payment in sales threads (thumbs u

I must revive this thread because I'm looking to start some selling on the boards.

I read the guidelines, and found number 9 to be confusing.

    9. List acceptable forms of payment (NOTE: Personal PayPal payment is NOT allowed as a listed option in your post as it is not appropriate for item purchases.)

    Personal PayPal is not allowed?

I'm located in Bangkok, Thailand (please see location under my avatar.)

What form of payment am I supposed to accept? Checks and money orders drawn on a USA bank? I'm merely a collector looking for an alternative to eBay. I am not a business entity!

Sounds problematic for me. How am I supposed to fascilitate the sale of my high grade books?

Any idea? How do other overseas sellers (who are collectors and not businesses) on the boards get payment?

Looks like I'm destined to stay on eBay. :frustrated:

  6.

It used to be a few days from scheduled to be graded/graded/shipped. Maybe 4-5 days at tops. I remember when fast track books would have greades sometimes by day 9. Seems that has gone the way of the dinosaur.

You can see some books (i.e. value) take up to two weeks to go from graded to shipped.

I know how hard they are working at CGC. It is not from a lack of effort. Do the math. They did 1,000,000 books in 9 years. The next million in 2. During that time period the staff has not grown to meet the need. Even if the present staff worked 24 hours a day it would be a miracle if they got TAT's to half of what they are. Again, not a dig on the present staff, they just need more straff to help balance the equation.

Thanks, Joey, as usual, we can count on you to be the voice of reason.

I guess many (including me) are frustrated that CGC is going through incredible growing pains without giving us tangible hope there will be improvements made in the future (e.g., hiring new staff, expanding their location, etc.)

We can only hope CGC reads these forums and understands our concerns.

  7. I think most people are anxious for knowing the grade, I myself included. The actual possesion of a comic book should it be physically with me, at CGC, in abank vault etc, doesnt matter to me.

    You have a point.

What is the lag time between the time CGC registers the book's grade on the website (where you can access it,) and when they physically ship it back to you?

I would think it's negligible amount of time, no?

  8.

Should slowdown be expected with all the Baltimore Fast Tracks?

I subbed my first two books ever at Heroes which was at the end of June. I joked then that I wouldn't see my book again until Halloween. It looks like I was right. :tonofbricks:

I would expect a slowdown from the Baltimore Fast Tracks. No doubt about it.

You definitely will not see your 2 comic books until Halloween at the earliest. I say near Thanksgiving in November would be a more accurate guesstimate.

  9. Glad I saw this thread. I submitted a modern in June and its September and nothing. Now I know. Will wait until the end of this month to email customer service . But man it I knew it would take 3 months or more to get it back i might not have even sent it. Was getting it done as a gift for someone and that coming up so it will be a belated gift I guess. (When i sent it they told me by email it would take 2 months) . Oh well , not the biggest deal.

This precisely what CGC should be fearful of. Losing business from customers. Especially losing "new" customers who have never used their service.

Most companies would do everything possible to mitigate or avoid the above scenario.

Then again, as a de facto monopoly, CGC may not care. They have more than enough business sustaining them despite the explosive growth of demand for their grading services.

  10. It's a slight exaggeration lol but there has been a few of late.

Yes there have been threads about this issue lately. You are correct.

However, I predict there will be MANY more threads started expressing frustration/displeasure if CGC doesn't do something to alleviate the mammoth backlog they have.

  11. Still located in Montrose, California (probably the same mail drop off of Verdugo Blvd) I see, too.

Law enforcement, the IRS, and ebay were all looking at these folks (former group working together), but I don't know what progress has been made.

    Same dog, new tricks...

Is there still an open criminal investigation on these individuals?

If they are crooks like this thread suggests, how is it eBay allows them to sell there and rip off more people? an_burningbag.gifhm

    Sorry, but I'm confused.

I've already put this eBay ID on my blocked bidder list.

  12. I've had an order stuck in verification for quite a while now. CGC received my comics on 4/23/12. At the time I submitted them the turn around was 100 days. I see it's now at 110.

Can any body tell me what month or invoice numbers are being returned right now.

    Thanks

Simply ludicrous to have to wait 110 business days! For argument's sake, each week has 5 business days. We know CGC takes convention days off.

This means it takes 22 weeks? Roughly 5 months? s0623.gif

CGC is literally sleeping at the wheel.

Quick question about your ASM 119 CGC 9.4 if you don't mind.

Is that ink spot at the bottom a printer's defect on the book itself? Or is that ink spot on the outer slab?

    Here's a closeup.

    CGC94-ASM119-b.jpg

I'm trying to improve my grading, so any guidance would be helpful.

This is really a beautiful book. :cloud9:

Any idea what the GSA trend is for this particular issue? What is ASM 119 CGC 9.4 going for these days? I'm a neophyte re: valuations, so thanks in advance if you have this information handy.

  14. The single most exciting comic book you have ever read?

    That's easy.

It was my very FIRST comic I ever purchased as a 10 year old in 1970.

The pure joy and excitement as I read it was indescribable. To this day, I've never forgotten how I felt when I read that Silver Surfer 18. Marveling (no pun intended) at the story of Stan Lee and artwork of Jack "King" Kirby left a real impression on me.

In fact, it was this particular comic book that ignited my passion for comic books and collecting, and the feeling has never left me! :cloud9:

  15. He did claim to be a Marine logo and all and now he is a Brit..

not that there is anything wrong with being a Brit..only in being a lying Brit..

Thank you for pointing this out.

I apologize for my ignorance on this matter, and I'm grateful you've educated me on this individual.

  16. Slimbags like Bluetooth obviously prey on the sympathies of good natured people which is classic psychopathic behavior.

If this turdfunnel is actually lying about being a Marine as has been claimed by other forum members then reading all of this Bluetooth post krap is extremely repulsive, especially to those of us who have lost fathers and grandfathers to war.

This POS is lower than whale sh!tt on the bottom of the ocean

Excuse me for asking this, but where does the factual basis for this vitriolic post of your's emmanate from? I'm a relative noob here, and I don't understand the venom behind your words.

Can you take a moment and please provide tangible evidence where Bluetooth represented himself as a USMC and the corresponding proof debunking of it? Was there a thread or two started at the forums on this alleged fabrication?

If your rant is based solely on personal conjecture and speculation, I feel you're doing a diservice coming in and trashing what many here feel is an excellent thread.

I read this entire thread because you bumped it up. I thought this topic was really nice, and yes, it did pull on my heart strings.

  17.

Have you seen the back covers? How can you assign a grade to a book without seeing the back cover?

True. The back covers on each and every one of those ASMs may have been soiled or defective in some respect.

Perhaps the owner can shed some light on it.
