I am new! Just getting the feel for sending books to CGC (it's nerve recking)
It has only been about 1 year since I started to collect comic books. I really liked the art of Marvel comics Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It opened my eyes to the comic book art. I don't really read the books themselves. I only read the graphic novels(if I get really curious to read it). Some of my favorite art is the early years of Spiderman. I honestly thought this AF15 would grade at least a 2.5 or 2.0 but it didnt... I traded away my old AF15 restored copy for an unrestored AF15. Sadly I am not satisfied yet with this copy. I really want a 2.0 or 2.5 unrestored.

Berni Wrightson and the House of Secrets 92, one of the best of the bronze age.
The first time I had a desire to obtain this book was about 6 months ago. I was looking at all the different types of comics in one of the online auctions I use. The first copy I came across was a CGC 8.5. I decided to bid on it because I really loved the art and was surprised I hadn't really known about this book earlier. It comes down to the last few seconds of the auction and I had bid over the overstreet price but had lost to a higher bidder. I was dissapointed but the desire to have the book only became stronger.
The next step was Ebay. As you all know...Ebay is overpriced (usually) unless the comic is up for bids without a reserve. I tried winning a raw copy shown as VF/NM. Lost to a higher bidder again. I dont trust alot of the Ebay listings as I have tried to CGC many of these and they just don't hit the grade posted. So I usually just bid as much as I believe its really worth. I decided to wait. Waiting would save me $500 dollars and a better grade!
Few months went by and finally another online auction had this copy. I decided to go over board and bid higher than whom ever wanted this as well. Sometimes that doesnt go well because some people really want a book and before you know it your bidding 2x the amount of overstreet price...Not in this case. I got it for a fair price.Finally.
I dont know how to explain this...But the cover isnt really scary or creepy to me. Its just very interesting. Its almost like your drawn to it. I know the cover originally was meant to be creepy. I really believe this is Berni Wrightsons best art piece. In my opinion one of the best comic covers in the Bronze age.

    Auctions and thoughts
A few weeks ago or a week ago...I was trying to win an auction at HA.com for a tech69 at a 6.0. I was actually the highest bidder at around $1400. I thought I had the book when the Live part of the auction came around and I was busy with Family and I literally lost the book for someone who paid $50 more dollars. The book sold at double the overstreet price guide!
I have always wanted a copy of this book but it is pretty rare and apparently desirable by many collectors. I decided I would try for a raw copy then CGC it, but for years I passed up a few and others just didnt come around.
Last night I found one on ebay! (picture shown below) it was 3x times the overstreet price... So I emailed the seller and got them to take it down to a little over double the price guide. I was okay with it. This is literally my top 5 favorite golden age covers. My Detective comics collection is raw and not CGC, I will keep this book in its case. When I find a better copy I will crack this open so it can go along with all my other raw copies. (hopefully someday)

    A few of my Asm's
I always love to upgrade my comics. I am trying to complete the first 50 Amazing Spider-Man comics in a 7.0-9.2 condition exception of the AF15 & ASM1 way too expensive for me. The highest grades Id want for an AF15 is a 4.0 and a ASM1 at a 6.0. I really don't even mind the page quality as long as these books do not have tan or brittle pages. Since these are slabbed I at least want a clean cover.
I first became interested in Silverage Spidey when I purchased an ASM 1 at a 1.5 from a show. I had never owned anything from the Silverage until then. I soon started to buy more Spideys but in really low grades. Ever since then I have upgraded all of them.
Example- I Upgraded my ASM 1 (1.5) to a 4.5 restored figured out restored books were not for me so I upgraded to a 3.0 you see in the picture.
I began to buy and upgrade every 6 months until I was able to achieve the better grades. The main problem is that the upgrades are getting expensive! The ASM 2 at a 6.5-7.0 runs for about $1400 to $1700. If I sell mine I can probably get about $650-750 for my book. Every book in this picture has been upgraded some up to 4 times. The next book I'd love to have in a 7.0 or higher is ASM14. I have had a hard time finding one at a 7.0-7.5. It seems everyone has an 8.0-8.5 for sale.
Either way this method is pretty fun and I keep myself occupied. Sometimes I get distracted and buy random slabbed comics just because I thought the book had a beutiful cover. Anyways thanks for reading.
