  1. I ran a shop long ago. It takes time to build a reputation and for people to know of you. Maybe with social media it would be easier today. You need to plan to lose money early while you build inventory and for people to know you are there .

Prepare to at best start breaking even by year 3 . Now you might do better , but prepare to be worse. If you arent prepared to lose money for quite awhile . I suggest you not going forward .

Now a days you need to not just sell comics and toys, but you need to sell the magic cards and do the whole gaming thing . Which means you need empty space for tournaments .

There is so much that goes into starting and running a shop . If i were you i would find a local shop and offer to work cheap and learn the ins and outs .

Like the people above I also suggest you forego this .

Buy inventory and set up at shows and see how much you like it . Learn to sell online . Learn to do that then see how much you want to invest in doing comics and related items 24/7 . Because a brick and mortar store is 24/7 . Even when you arent there it will/should be on your mind .

When a hobby become a business you might quickly lose your love for that hobby and want to run as far away as you can .

In honor of the Tick i say seventy eleven . Just seems like a number he would come up with.

But really lets go with 34 .

  4. I am not sure if this is the correct spot for this. Someone on Ebay is running a comic grab bag listing.

I know Ebay has rules against them.

This guy has been lucky to have not been busted yet. Plus he hasnt gotten a negative yet which is surprising to me . I checked his feedback and not one person has said of any good books by name , title or number . That to me right there says no one is getting any of the books he is showing .

Go to report item, then choose listing practices , then other listing practices , then chance listings. Submit .

  5. Any idea why the Wynonna Earp tv show has done nothing for the comic in regards to $$$

I happened upon the show while scrolling through my on screen guide. I wasnt even sure it was based on or had anything to do with the comic.

I think its very under the radar . I dont think its a hugely popular show. its on a small cable network and most dont know it started as a comic.

  6. There are two types of books at shows I look for

The ones everyone else is looking for and the ones I know I can make money that no one looks at

Plenty of books are available after the door opens

I look for the desperate dealers at the end of the last day, and toss out cash money lowballs left and right.

Do you want to carry these two slabs back in a box and hope they sell next time? I'm pretty sure your cost into them is 50-$60. You're selling them for $130 total. I'll give you $70 (I'm already holding my cash out in front of their face). This works best for people who have just a few slabs, not boxes and boxes full.

These five raw keys you have on the wall for $550 total? I'll give you $300 cash (make sure you lay out the $300 down right in front of them, preferably in a neat orderly fan of $20's or $50's make sure the they are crisp new bills.

Then when they agree to that. Oh that other key you have up for $50-$60, can you throw that in for another $20? I just bought 5 keys from you (Extend the money toward them already, its the natural inclination of people to accept the money).

I agree with this . There are always at least one dealer who has had a bad show. Havent had enough help to load out . Over bought and dont have enough room to bring everything , etc etc .

You have to pre scout a little , Small talk to get some info .

But the deals are there at the end of the show .

  7. Just because I dont have 47,000 plus posts doesnt mean I have not contributed anything positive. Just because you have over 47,000 posts doesnt mean you have contributed anything positive .

As an adult I dont come to comic book message boards to argue semantics , or feel the need to always be correct . Or worry about if my posts rock or whether others posts rock or do not .

How about you just go back to putting me on ignore . That sure worked just fine for me .

If you do or you dont. Doesnt matter to me.

Just do me one favor . Have a nice day .

  8. Just take the argument/discussion somewhere else. People are tired of reading pages and pages of it in this thread. Its the same individuals. Just take the hint there is another thread for it.

I am trying not to be rude, but how many times does it need to be said.

Yep my first reaction when I saw that there were so many posts since my last check an hour ago was : Super more needless arguing about some dumb semantics between at least one know it all .

2nd was, Hmm maybe something is actually heating up . Glad I go with my instincts most of the time .

  9. For those that doubt the allure of Copper Age newsstands (even with their supposed 50/50 print ratio to direct copies) in CGC 9.8 holders, I present you with the following:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/201533218526?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1561.l2649

Just sold, and the buyer has paid.

Almost $100 over the last sale of a CGC 9.8 direct edition copy.

The downside is that this newsstand CGC 9.8 sold for about $125 LESS than the last newsstand CGC 9.8 copy sold for, last month.

That copy went off at $359 (plus 19.5% buyer's premium + tax) so call it $429 + tax and shipping/insurance.

However, that last copy was sold through Heritage *and* the wrap was just about perfect, with no white showing.

Congrats ,that whole manipulating the GPA thing worked for you .

  10. Very new to this, but I am looking to start a collection. Does anyone have any suggestions on some comics that I should purchase right now that may gain value into the future. Thanks for your time, John

Buy comics you like. Be it for the story or the art . If they end up being valuable some day well thats just an added bonus .

Dont buy into the hype you see here about comics and their value. Whats hot and Valuable today might not be so tomorrow .
