  1. As of this weekend I'm up to 65 New Trend- New Direction books. Not a huge collection, but pretty decent, I think. Here's the only one from this weekend I haven't posted in this thread; I had it over in the Mad Magazines area instead.
  2. Just a couple examples of what you can find still in PCH and DC superheroes. I bought both of these books at ECCC this weekend, for $70 total. It's NOT to late to get into the Golden Age, even with your specific interests!
  3. Today's book. Pity about the tape on the spine; but it could be a lot worse. Another issue with the classic Weird Tales triple: Brundage, REH, and HPL. The Lovecraft story, "The Shunned House", is arguably the first appearance of the story. It was actually printed several years earlier, but for various reasons that printing wasn't actually distributed until the 50's. So first publication that made it to market.
  4. It's one of the comic issues. But you can see where Kurtzman is working towards the magazine format it would change to a few months later.
  5. ECCC was quite ducky for me. $5 each.
  6. Yes, that’s a file copy. Nice one!
  7. Conversation with the seller. "Those are Baker?" (He looked at the back cover) "Those are Baker!"
  8. Still, definitely got some real Baker today at ECCC, even if the Love Secrets 55 was mislabeled. Normally wouldn't have grabbed the brittle 101, but for $3 I'll work with it!
  9. Listed in Overstreet as Baker, but not on the Grand Comics Database. A quick look and none of the stories scream Baker, although that could be the code changes. Anybody know for sure?
  10. A bit of both, there are definitely specific publishers, writers, and artists more in demand. Writers is probably the biggest factor, but not by much. Or genres, as well... Hero pulps are always popular. Science Fiction is popular but generally the most common. I would just go through this thread, it will point out a lot of stuff. With all that said, there is probably a lot more "eye of the beholder" stuff out there than in comics.
  11. Welcome to the world of pulps! Fiction House is always a good pickup; I genuinely envy you the New Detective (it's a book I've been looking for for quite a while, just not very hard. Three John D. MacDonald stories in the issue.) Not sure on the paperback, although I gather finding the dime Dells is generally a bit of a trick. And while the Future and the Fantastic Adventures are not particularly notable as far as I know, I would still pay the $12 you paid for all 6 books if it was just those two and I spotted them in the wild. (Not necessarily a lot more, though.) A good haul, is what I'm saying.
  12. It was always clearly a passion project of his, which he came back to decade after decade. And every return was amazing.
  13. Picked up at ECCC today. Somewhat surprisingly, this is the first pulp-size US issue of Doc Savage I've gotten. I have a Canadian issue in pulp format, and over a dozen of the digests, but this is my first Doc in what you might consider the classic format:
  14. An ECCC pickup. Not terribly rare as books from around then go, but some amazing art:
  15. Picked up at ECCC today. The classic "All Sheldon Mayer" issue:
  16. And today's EC from ECCC. I think even Raze might go "that's not in particularly high grade", but it was fairly cheap, and I think it's a classic cover even if it doesn't get the official designation as far as I know. Very happy to get this one; it's the first issue of Tales from the Crypt I've ever owned:
  17. I've been posting my pickups across threads, where they fit. It was a very good Thursday for me at the show; I think I had books in 5 threads and didn't even post the Spirit section. Or the dozen Barks Uncle Scrooges. Or the sketches.
  18. From ECCC today. Virgil Finlay story "The Mad Planet" in this one:
  19. OK, technically not actually a Mad Magazine. But I think it's still fair for the thread. Picked up at ECCC today, puts me over the half-way mark on the comic issues:
  20. Low grade, missing back cover... But I'm happy to be able to say I've got a book from FC series 1. Picked up at ECCC today for not very much money at all
  21. Pretty sure you're right, just not sure if every copy of the book came with the print.
