  1. A couple cheap books in today. I think this title may be a sleeper; Zorro undeniably has a lot of name recognition among comic collectors starting to look at pulps:
  2. And some Aces. This puts me over 100 for the Ace D-S-G run. 101 down, 502 to go. I've said before I don't really care if I get many of the Nurse novels that litter the 500's, and that's still true. But happy to get a couple type samples, at least; and I'll keep grabbing all I can find when they're under $5 with shipping. This also happens to include my first G that's part of the D-S-G run, even if I've got quite a few post-500 G's.
  3. Might as well throw this out here... Anybody have a mid-grade copy (4.0-7.0 or so) of Warren Presents 13: Sword and Sorcery Comix that they're willing to part with? For some reason, I can't find a copy for sale online that isn't priced in the $40 range for an obviously flawed book. Alternatively, I would also take an explanation of why the book is suddenly commanding a premium unlike the rest of the Warren Presents issues that would justify the asking prices I'm seeing.
  4. I've dealt with SA as both buyer and seller. A first rate board member who you can trust.
  5. All I can add is I find the same problem with weak spines on HELP! as well.
  6. I'm not sure, have any pulps broken 100K?
  7. Creepy #26 thoughts: Cover: It's a better choice of cover to borrow from Famous Monsters than the one they used for Creepy #20, at least. Although I personally think they should have used it on Eerie, instead... you could almost claim it was a portrait of Cousin Eerie. Did they deliberately model Cousin Eerie after Lon Chaney in London After Midnight? It certainly wouldn't surprise me, but I don't think I've ever seen the claim made before. I think it's our first Gogos cover as well, he didn't do that many for the comic mags even if he's arguably the most famous of the Famous Monsters artists. Loathsome Lore: The Patterson-Gimlin film was shot in late 1967, so this is probably inspired in part by that making the rounds, even if they never name-check the film itself. I still personally believe it was my cousin Bob in the suit. Stranger in Town: The story is credited to Crandall but is pretty clearly Sutton, like the index says. Crandall is not listed on the contents page, and Sutton is. Nice art, the story probably worked better when it first came out- it predates Swamp Thing and Man-Thing but reads like a partial rip off. Second Chance: Still some amazing Ditko art. Completely Cured: The story doesn't quite work, but some solid Willamsune art along the way, at least. Un-Timely Meeting: Excellent Colon art, the story is a pretty solid Twlight Zone-esque piece. It does feel like it's a bit padded, though... The third page, in particular, seems almost completely superfluous. Backfire: Still an excellent Goodwin/ Morrow story. Voodoo Doll: They chose one of the better Grandenetti stories to reprint here, but I'm still not a fan. Overall, this issue feels like a pretty decent package overall in terms of the individual selections, but the production seems more haphazard than usual, bringing the whole down a notch. And it takes a lot to get noted for unusually poor production given some of the gaffes we've seen on earlier issues! But that's the way it's been through the whole of the dark age, in many ways... a lot of three steps forward, two steps back. Still, disappointing compared to the great issue of Eerie last week.
  8. I'm not sure, I don't have a copy of SOTI to check. @SOTIcollector, do you know why Bugs Bunny Four Color #250 was referenced in SOTI? It was looking at your site that I saw it on the list of books.
  9. Here's the Kevin Nowlan sketch variant for Vampirella Year 1 #6, finally. And the B cover, since I've got it handy anyway:
  10. Two in today. I've loved the Eerie 1972 annual cover ever since I first saw it, unlike most of the other Creepy & Eerie Yearbooks & Annuals. It's Pickman's Model meets Normal Rockwell and it's brilliant.
  11. Nice pickups! I would call them more scarce than rare; they had a pretty solid print run. Return of the King is more difficult than the other two. Very roughly, Ace printed these without permission under the belief that copyright was never correctly established in the US. They had a strong enough argument that the agreement reached with Tolkien was more or less "We will let these go out of print and not reprint them", rather than anything worse. But they're the first paperback editions of the trilogy, and are therefore high demand among Tolkien fans and paperback fans. The original print runs were relatively high, but just about every paperback collector eventually holds onto a set, as near as I can tell.
  12. Today's book. I think this is the only Four Color that got a SOTI reference:
  13. Will this thread be continuing? Given that I was the only one who grabbed anything so far, I can understand if it doesn't.
  14. Not sure, the only credited artists are on Mickey Finn and Postman, Mickey Finn credits Howard Simon and Postman credits Wm. Frost. In both cases that may just mean interior artists.
  15. Found at Half Price Books today. I’m guessing this is a reproduction set, does anyone recognize it? At under $10 a volume it was worth the money in any case:
  16. Today I learned finding an Eerie #51 with the posters intact will be a pain. Keeping the posterless copy as a filler, since it was cheap, but not sharing it here.
  17. This gives me all the Creepy Yearbook/ Annuals, and the three Monster Worlds with comic stories:
  18. Today's addition. I should also scan a few books I got last week, but that will need to wait until I get home tonight:
