  1. A very short notice but notable pulp auction went up in a hurry this week at Heritage. (Am I allowed to link stuff and mention sites here?) There's a handful of issues in here I've never even seen and many, many beautiful covers and copies 2023 September 21 - 22 Pulp Spectacular Showcase Auction Featuring Pulps From The Collection of Dr. Dave Anderson I point it out because I won't be bidding, especially if it is anything like the feeding frenzy that happened with the "spicy" Jack and Joanie Kump Collection earlier this year. I'm afraid the news that CGC will be grading pulps has flooded the market with speculation and will do horrible things for prices - not to mention the locking of books in slabs. I'd never seen an auction go up like this so fast and with such hurried fanfare, but then again that type of auction house tends to be out of my league.
  2. I've been slowly adding to a gallery of L.B. Cole digital restorations on Flickr, one of the last ones I did: Confessions of Love 014 (1953-02.Star) cover L.B. Cole The rest of the gallery: https://www.flickr.com/photos/197841258@N07/albums/72177720307794063 I've got a beat to hell copy of The Killers 1 on eBay this week, likely well below the collectors here standards. And I'll be listing a bunch of low grade ones in the coming weeks (new to forum and am not sure of the rules on mentioning auctions and whatnot, do excuse). Cole is hands down one of the top 5 geniuses of the golden age. His sense of color is totally unique. He puts colors together that should not go together, but they do - amazing.
  3. I hesitate to even let the jackals know where to hunt these things, but I've been tracking Baker stuff down in the sweat magazines and digests for years. The sweat magazines were kind of a last refuge for some artists as the goldenage crumbled, and Baker still has some "lost" illustrations here or there. RAGE v01n03 (1957-04.Arnold) splash How Girl Gangs Fight and Love Matt Baker my copy: The last one I found Gunsmoke v01n01 1953-06 splash Rock Bottom Matt Baker my copy >< I've got a collection of all of his images from the St. John digests to go to the online museums, but I've been holding out for the last 3 issues with possible Baker work before completing the file...
  4. Oh, man, I love it. I couldn't tell you if it is really bad or really good only that I find it weird and charming at the same time - surely they are under the influence
  5. A more recent pick-up. My main passion in the pulps is the girlies, though I've been known to gather a wide variety of pulps and magazines. Artist unidentified, Frolics 1931-05 v03n07.King cover From Frank Armer's line, this one began as Real Story Book went to Real Story Book Frolics to Frolics to Paris Frolics. There are a number of issues I'd still like to get, most of all March 1931. Here's my copy of the first issue, Jack/Otto/Oscar Greiner You can see the whole issue on my shelf at the Internet Archive for this one: https://archive.org/details/real-story-book-v-01n-01-1928-11.-king-d-m-ia
  6. Not a bad way to get your hand on those. The Flynn's from the 20s aren't holding up too well...
  7. Romantic Love 10 (1954-03.Avon) cover Everett Raymond Kinstler. Kind of a wolfish look from casanova here. I'm not sure the blonde is impressed. I love moonlight covers.
  8. I'm pretty sure I don't roll with everybody on the high grade comics here but you take what you can find in many romance titles. I'm gathering so few of many issues get put in slabs because it's only worth it for the higher grades? Ideal Romance 005 (1954-08.Key) cover Bernard Baily I'd love to come across ANY copy of issue 6 of this series.
  9. The print was a surprise, one of those online companies was having a sale, so it was printed for about 60 bucks. It's definitely not perfect, some browns in white areas, etc,. but it's mostly consistent printing and you can see all the original comic printing patterns in the thing. I was working from a 400 dpi scan which worried me with blowing it up so big, but no problems whatsoever in that department.
  10. 40" by 30" print made from a recent digital restoration of a comic from the JVJ project at the online museums. Hanging next to my desk. https://www.flickr.com/photos/197841258@N07/52781149885/in/album-72177720306586240/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/197841258@N07/52792479090/in/album-72177720306637108/ or my last Baker cover, also worked from a comic from the JVJ project. https://www.flickr.com/photos/197841258@N07/53082167438/in/album-72177720306586240/ The full textless covers tend to be my favorite Bakers.
  11. Arthur Ray McCowen True Detective Mysteries v29n01 (1937-10.Macfadden) cover
  12. Daring Detective v07n41 (1938-02.Country Press) cover Stockton Mulford Hello! I'm new to the CGC boards but thought I'd hop in here on the pulp thread and go off that last red-covered true crime mag. Fawcett publication, February 1938.
