  1. It is a cult book... Why wouldn't it be?

I also equate cult to mean something with a small but loyal following. That's exactly how I see Invincible. The numbers haven't changed much in a while.

That's exactly what it means - I didn't think I needed to define it, but apparently it helped.

I really don't get the previous comparison to Captain America. Even just from a numbers perspective.

The comparison to Captain America was direct from Kirkman. On a monthly basis Invincible when you add up trade and floppy sales sells as many copies as Captain America.

That is the source where you can listen to the interview and hear him say it.

  2. This book has never see high numbers, it's a bit of a cult book.

I'd be curious to see what TWD #'s were before the show hit. I don't think Outcast #'s have jumped yet as far as I know. Only reason I bring those two titles up is because I have to think a show is really all that's gonna change the Invincible monthly #'s. I mean, seriously. The title has quite possibly the most successful modern day comic book writer AND the amazingly talented (I feel under appreciated) artist Ryan Ottley drawing EVERY month. Only a handful of books on the market reflect that rare occurance where either writer or artist commit to said book for so many issues. It's a win-win. Gotta love Image.

Also, don't forget that Invincible sells a LOT of TPB's.

All true, but the statement still stands - it's a cult book. A great book (in my opinion) but it clearly has a cult following.

It sells roughly as many units between trades and floppies as Captain America monthly according to Kirkman.

  3. I'm just a fan that started a Facebook page to talk with other fans, and Skybound said "Hey, want to make this official?" So we did. I'm interested to see what comes out of this. Ryan can't really do anything else for the year in case anything falls behind but would love to see him get far enough ahead to be able to pick up a Marvel/DC Miniseries and increase his profile.

  4. Hi Omni-Man from NYCC here. Thanks for all the nice words. It was a blast getting to talk with everyone at the show. ALL made me and my sons feel great. Btw. Deb wants to take another shot at Mark's mask. It was the last thing she completed, so she was a little rushed. We're going to a Comicfest event at a local comic shop in costume on Halloween, so I'll post a couple new pics afterwards.

Awesome. The mask is so darn hard to make because it goes up in an unnatural manner past his nose with the goggles coming down past the mask.

I was the guy sitting with Ottley all weekend who gave you the prints. Welcome to the board! Make sure to share pics on the www.facebook.com/invincibleuniverse page after the event!

  5. My first piece of Invincible OA... Very happy with it.

congrats! love how you got the pencils and inks!

Me too... Interesting to note Ryan's pencils say issue 107, but this page ended up being in 106.

He just wrote wrong number. They are never that far ahead on the art to be able to mean to put something in one issue and then change to an earlier issue.

Edit: Oh and AWESOME page, super jealous on that one.

  6. I finally read the most recent issue. I really hope that isn't the direction Kirkman is actually going with it. I imagine it is one of his "Joke" moments... Or at least I hope it is anyway.

As someone who has read Reboot's first two issues, I can comfortably say this should be one of the most popular arcs ever, if not the most popular.

  7. Chris, you're absolutely right, the CG for flying just hasn't been done right. I think Man Of Steel had it pretty good, but, that's a huge budget, no way Invincible would get that.

Here's the problem with doing a HBO/Showtime/Cinemax thing. Sex. Invincible doesn't have any sex. I'd hate for the book to have to alter its subject matter just to be on television.

Edit: consider what's popular on those channels now and see how Invincible would fit. I'd have to think AMC or maybe even FX would work. Can be violent as hell and still have the basic cable guidelines they'd have to adhere to.

I don't think that The Wire was a really sex filled show. I'm only coming up with 2 or 3 scenes in 5 seasons with sex. HBO cares about content. True Detective has maybe 1 sex scene per season.

Mark and Amber or Eve would fill that ratio. If it's needed, but I don't think that they gauge things on that basis.

  8. They did make it to us on Saturday and Sunday. The funny thing is the Mom, and Omni-Man's real wife is named Debbie and she made the costumes for them. I know they met Robert, and I believe Cory too.

We had a moment at the table where it was the three of them and Anissa and Thragg visiting by chance. It was real cool. Super nice people. I posted a lot of pics on www.facebook.com/invincibleuniverse of it.
