Why are Copics so expensive anyways?

Yes, they're good but I don't find them to be that much better than the old Letraset Trias (RIP) with the literal TRI-TIPS...

    And they are water-based, no?

They are water-based, and I'm not sure what the difference is between them and the old Letraset markers - as I've never used the latter. Looking at the Letraset markers, my guess is that they lay down ink like Prismacolor markers (very opaque and saturated) - the Copics lay down color in a more translucent fashion, and allow for more build up of color to achieve maximum saturation.

How this translates into being more expensive, I'm not sure.

They are kinda pricey outside of Ebay, but if you know the color you want, and you can wait - you can usually get them from $3-$5 shipped on the 'Bay. Michaels has them for $8 a whack, and I only go there if I am in dire need of a color immediately.

I may have missed something but Copics are alcohol based and I agree they are quite expensive. One of the things that makes them so costly I believe is the consistency of the colors. A lot of markers that are supposed to be the same color are usually a little but different, I have never seen this with a Copic marker. Also, I think the fact that you can replace the nibs and refill them adds tot he cost since you do not have to buy a new one everything the ink runs out.

  2. I like it. You seem to have a strong leaning towards design. What happened on that Gorilla one ? Looks like one of you kids got ahold of it before you finished lol

Yea, I know... you meant to do that :sorry:

I actually did. I like to draw stuff like that on old comic book backing boards and let my son color them.

    Glad you liked them.

  3. What is the advantage of a seller pretending to have no idea what they have?

It's supposed to make you drool over the notion that you may have found a rube whose comics you can buy for a song. And, they're hoping it'll provide cover after they rip you off and you report them. "Duh, I didn't know funny books was worth moneys!!!"

That is what I was wondering. This kind of thing seems so easy to see through though. This little technique probably worked way better 30 years ago when people didn't have the Internet to research things.

  4. The growing trend over on The Market isn't a particular comic book this week but more about Michael Turner Variants.

Fathom Dawn of War #1 Variant

    Soulfire #5 Variant

    Aspen #1 2006 Variant

    Wolverine Origins #1 Variant

    I'm not sure why. (shrug)

The Wolverine 1 is signed so that is probably why the price is where it is. Here is an unsigned for $2.99 BIN -

  5. I went to my LCS today and we were talking about ToT. The guy tells me they have a few ToT 1s in the back and asks if I want one. I figured they would be $20/$25 but the guy said he pulled them because they were not selling so I bought 2 of the 3 for cover. I would have purchased the 3rd one but it had a huge gash right in the middle of the front cover.

Kind of crazy how some shops don't pay attention to what is going on online.
