Robert Crumb debut his underground book Zap in late 1968. I wonder if this Marvel book might be a staple for Independent creators.
P.C. the Pussycat......funnyAs I looked inside the book, the bountiful and bouncy Babe is startling even in our generation. Wally Wood and Bill Everett were involved as well as Stan Lee and his younger brother Larry Lieber. Frank Zappa has his own front page spread. A very cool book and this book seems to me to be an 8.5 to 9.0.....Even an 8.0 would be Great. I wanted to journal this epic of a book...... any info on this subject please add....I find it very FascinatingTo see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Film worthy?
I have yet to enter a journal entry to the true art collectors out there. I have been thinking that Kamandi might well be worthy of a Peter Jackson film. Kind of a Logans Run meets Tolkien film. Throw in an appearance of Superman with loads of visually striking elememts and Kamandi might well be our hero. I am going to read my set of Kamandi before sending to CGC to have the last look.
Cheers, RL

I have never gotten a response
Seems to be much frustration going out to CGC. Personally, I pay the extra 8 dollars for fast track if I want results (but this is from My Impatience). I have to say that CGC has always treated me fair and if it is for the collecting alone....Why not rest assured.....business sleeps as well.

If a cgc rated comic is SA labeled and the overstreet states (universal) as $500.00
Can anybody enlighten me on the value of a restored comic compared to a universal with the same grade?
What if the restored grade has a Signature label....do they become equal as a universal grade?
Please help......

Collectors Unite
I felt a need to express the beauty of black and white.....
Firstly, as film goes, even Black and White's like Beauty and the Beast (1946...Jean Cocteau), Spellbound (1945... with Salvidor Dali work)...the list goes on.... even to more moderns as Dead Man and Eraserhead could not be as potent as a colorized film.
Taking that into account (and classic old films) I feel that the Brain takes in the information as "black and white" where the hues and saturations will not get lost within the understanding or "translating".
A few examples of popularity that come to mind are...
Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles
Walking Dead
Vampirella
Old Elfquest
....etc....
There becomes an almost timelessness to the stories.....
Anyhow....just blogging to The You

Unique beginnings
Firstly, I must say....there are many of You who know more than Me....
I am a collector...many of which are childhood memories (My favorite CGC being Captain Marvel #1 5.0). I drew it as a lad and it is priceless (and unworthy to sell) to me.
If I were to choose a high grade collection of merit it would be DC.
Stan Lee is the better half of Andy Warhol and, meeting him Eye to Eye, has enabled collectors to establish a network of Awareness in "Art".
It is unfortunate, however, that DC is under rated and deserves the "action" of Marvel........
Until it comes to bidding on an extaordinary DC book...because I Will Lose Everytime....money is not the price a DC collector will pay (or any true collector)...
I am generalizing here for the "unpopular" Marvels are akin to the DC network.......
Not saying I prefer DC but do prefer the "no commercial" aspect of their grandness.
....and who is the most Unique Marvel Character?
Marvel is perhaps the second leg of greatness to Comics......

Giving thumbs UP
It is often that I reach out intuitively to people but Very much less often that I receive reciprocation. Here is a friend of honor and demeanor, a man of repose and dignity...and one whom I Truly call FRIEND. Tnerb.....I am truly grateful to KNOW YOU

LET US REUNITE
Over the past year or so I have submitted Very Many books that I perceived as 9.2 + (now I think different). I look at the front with an lcd or afternoon light at 45 to 60 degrees...Now I can see a bit better. Is it worth it?
In my opinion, I am at a loss yet get excited to see the "reward".
I recommend CGC do a Comic link thing....We return for profit and they benefit for reform.
Why not? It would benefit towards the Sale Of "Overstreet" means nothing.
PS...I pray they are not MERGED....

JUSTICE LEAGUE
The most unique Stanley Lieber (Stan Lee) book is Silver Surfer. I would love to eventually get a higher grade in this BUT JLA is where it all began as a team. I am a HUGE fan of comics and the ATLAS books are so unerated...AS WELL AS DC.
Although I love the Avengers I have to give JLA a boost for starting a Super Team.

TNERB And Surfer Disney on Saturday. Note Lee K is at Klaus Janson table and Shivabali is somewhere out between....We all got 'er done
Just seeing David get a sketch from Silvani (?) for his wife was enough to make your heart overflow with falling leaves...How he constantly looked at his commission with admiration was a treat. GREAT FOLKS HERE. CGC was, as usual, OUTSTANDING....MIKE...YOU MAKE ME HAPPY and I am the Dude with a bit of Zack..haha.
I will write more but for now...gotta get to bed for tomorrow.
Let us continue to surf within the beauty that is simple in riding waves.
PS...that Lee K guy messes with me....can someone step on his foot?

What is Art?
The self creates it
Within self Wills it
Of the self Reflects it
Towards the self Inspects it

Made me feel odd buying a Playboy
So I looked at the census for the revised Walking Dead and saw a Playboy issue. I bought 4 of them (I am not the type to buy such books) and the first one came to me in (obviously a non CGCer) envelope..an evelope with no cardboard protection "got protection?"..it was bent up and I have no problem with it EXCEPT that I SHOULD HAVE said I Wanted to CGC it Not "play" with it......I had to share this for comics are NEARLY always sent "protected"....ooooops......just a spill

A Wake
When I wake at times I find I am still dreaming. I am not dreaming yet I am reliving. I am alive though (in these moments) find a sense of transcending Dream..... Comic books have not only allowed me to dream, they have given me sight within my growth (or approach). I realize comic books have, and will continue to inspire my Psalms without Dreaming to imagine the moment I discovered I slept through knowing I am awake......
Cheers to visual reading.......

IT is not Religion...It is COMICS
This has been a long time coming. My life has been changed by a large handful of books. Mad, Marvel, DC, Aircel, Comico, Eclipse, Warp (I loved the Elfquest books), First (that was a doozey)...Ther were more but I must further my mind now.
When I started submitting my books I realized my grading was VERY off. These were books I read and now I know better.
Between 1984 and 1988 I got extremely serious. I began buying multiples ( I still do to this day...but now it is VARIANTS). Some multiple books make me giggle and I know why...They were Infinite crossovers or Secret Wars crossovers.
My point being, I am a fan of COMICS.
Now, as I have matured, am more interested in undervalued books. DC is now my favorite unless a 9.8 Marvel pops up. I am so intrigued by DC books and the composition of the covers.
As for me, I will always stick with CGC to grade as this is a standard for which I can contain my CONTENT...I am so happy as well that they are getting NEW SLABS and CHEERS TO COLLECTING

I have always been a Frazetta fan for I was into Dungeons and dragons. I have been scanning all my books and finding gems, multiples and getting organized. it feels great and Sensei...I am nearly to my walking Dead books.
I bought this a while back. As far as collecting, if this was a 9.8 I would have passed it up. I saw this 9.9 and became that kid playing D and D and got overwhelmed with vorpel power.
Here is a smile and a picture for you

He was my highlight. There were not many old school artists present. Stanley, Neal Adams Kurt Busiek and Mike Mignola were the only ones from my old days. This man does not do comics but he is so humble and AWESOME. He had a gig as well. I bought his newest book and Surfer checked it out first while we drove back for Tnerbs "bachelor" party...SHAMAN...What? Great times and enjoy this man...he is truly one of a kind....oh...BTW I got 12 Stanley books (HE WROTE) signed at ECCC...thanks to awesome friends

Hire a CGC rep. for 1 hour at a COMICON for SS.
I have been attending Emerald City Comicon for 8 years now and I get very excited (even if my book is low grade) to meet an involved "artist" on a specific book. GREEN LABEL? come on...I shook this persons hand and told them how they affected me....etc.
I Say This To CGC.....Hire floaters. I will pay $75.00/hour for a floater to follow me (and perhaps another friend) to random booths to verify that I received an authentic signature and not an unappealing green label...does this say TRUST?
Even better this gives the CREATORS a chance to MAKE THIS HOBBY TIGHT AND TRUE and bring confidence to Their Signature APPROVED.
Every booth DESERVES it and IT WOULD HELP THE COMIC INDUSTRY.
PS....give a tip to the FLOATER.

PRINTER OR BOOK?
Interesting to me is that I find certain companies producing 9.9 to 10 more readily than I have found with Image (Walking Dead). Is this strategic malfunctioning business or a matter of bad printing? Tease me.... In this statement I feel ther are better printing companies which will, If Demanded, produce the Investing In The Read You Love. Let us commend the Prideful Printing Companies...they help cgc AND US

Get IT SS
So, after participating at the ECCC for 7 years now I am getting closer to understanding how ""signature (yellow not green) labels work. What I did this year was to get signatures from various artist and writers, either put the books behind them or under the table (they watch) go to the CGC booth and have someone "witness" and go back to the booth to send away. The only downfall is that the 10% discount is not available.
I, after numerous Qualified..green labels", finally got it.
PS.... to SREW...yes it was very crowded....going back tomorrow (without my daughter)....
Cheers to the collectors
