  1. I got one when I ordered Spawn 222 from DCBS. They were selling the Walking Dead variant for $.75. I was pissed off at first when I saw the Kudranski variant because I had no idea what it was. I found out what it was when I looked on ebay though!

It was probably 9.2-9.4. I put it up for an $89.99 BIN and sold it within 10 minutes! I wondered if I should have put it up for more? I couldn't be too upset though. $80.00 profit for getting the wrong book works out for me every day!

  2. O’Barr began crafting The Crow in 1981, with Caliber Comics first publishing the Crow’s adventures in 1989. The new trade paperback by Gallery Books honors the character with a re-release of the graphic novel O’Barr intended all along, all done with traditional ink on paper and hand-drawn lettering on the original art. That old-school technique goes for new pages, too — 30 pages of never-before-seen artwork, including a new closing segment called “Sparklehorse.” O’Barr explains the significance of that new closing sequence and the special edition as a whole in a most revealing new introduction, where he sets the record straight “once and for all” on what really happened to the girl who was the inspiration for Shelly.

Now I knew about his girlfriend. I did not know the reason she was out driving that night.

O’Barr has said before that he crafted The Crow after his fianceé was killed by a drunk driver when he was 18. What’s startling is O’Barr’s revelation in this new book: that she was killed just as she was headed to her car to pick up O’Barr because, of all things, he had called her for a ride since he hadn’t paid his car insurance.

    :o:(

    The Crow Special Edition review

Interesting. I'm gonna have to pick this up and reread it. It's probably been 20 years since I read the original. I'm interested in the new stuff.

  3. Yet more off topic stuff but I just can't resist today.....

Never bothered googling Jimmy Linguini before. Thought I'd give it a whirl....found some funny arse gut busting sheet that had me rolling.

First off...I think I might actually want to listen to this in my car:

    "OFG I AM THE OFG"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_UGqSF4Jl8

Apparently alot of pre-occupation with the anus, but everyone's gotta love something. :)

Then this "Portrait" section on tumblr:

Too damn funny. That chick on the top left's cooch looks like it's seen some real vietnam pow action.....could drop a boxing glove in there without hitting the sides. True genius, I shoulda come up with that sort of thing years ago. Good times, good times.

JL, you certainly are all that and a bag of chips bro.

I saw one video where you were so baked I got a contact high!!!!

    WTF?

I never thought that I would ever hear a rap song that mentions the CGC boards, Cherry comics, and a guy my dad from behind. All in the same song!

I was wondering what the .gif was on his posts. Better as a .gif than youtube, being youtube has sound.

    I agree.

  5. So what new releases are worth picking up, or what ones will heat up eBay ?

I think just by going on past trends of TV related books, Grimm just came out and might do well for the short term. I'm sure the show has a cultish following that might not know the comic exists yet. Buy now for a discount and sell maybe for $10 in a week or two if they dry up-regular cvrs. that is. X-Files is also dropping in about a month. I preordered some, and am hoping it draws out older, hard core fans, that have to have it. Who knows though, only the market decides these things.

I am interested in X-Files simply because I am an old X-Files junkie from way back. Hopefully there are more of me out there so my book can be worth something because I will be trying out the first storyline.

Also, a book like this could be testing the waters for new movies, so there is a long term possibility for this series. They are always talking about a new X-files movie possibly being in the works so it could happen. They might just have to do it with new leads. As long as its not Robert Patrick, I might be O.K. with that.

  6. I am also very sad that I could not go to Flying Colors in Concord to get an issue 1 signed by Dragotta today... I have to stay close to home since my wife is expecting any day now...

I used to shop there when I was a kid! Well, a teenager more than a kid. I couldn't get out there much when I was a kid since I grew up about 30 miles away in Oakley, if you know where that is.

That being said, I was up in Norcal the week before last and saw that they were having Dragota in this week. Missed it by two weeks! They also still had about 20 or so copies of #1 on the shelf.

  7. Went to my LCS and was there right when the doors opened. He was already out! What happens is he only orders like 10 copies of the book and as it gets closer to release date, people email him and get them added to their pull. I tried doing that a few times and it never worked so I took to coming in to get them right when they opened on Wednesday. Still getting burned. Not to mention he only got 8 of the 10 books he ordered. I really want to support the local shops, but this makes me want to just get everything online. I did manage to get the last copy of Helheim 2 and one of the 2 copies of East of West 2 that he had.

Next closest shop is like an hour away. Good thing I ordered some through DCBS, but I really want to read this today!

  8. I never understand why people don't look at the BIN listings. You can get the first appearance in Pilot Season Declassified 2011 and The Test for less.

That has always amazed me. Some people must just use the show auctions only option.

The only thing that I can think of is that they won an auction at way below market value at one point and then decided that's the only way to go. I will have books sit on ebay for weeks in a fixed price listing and then send them to auction and they sell for more than I was asking.

  9. i don't think sex is going to last as long as EOW once people get over 1, the title & 2 the fact it has sex in it ... it will drop ... imo EOW & even 5g have more staying power than sex does I read the #1 of it & was bored all the way through though maybe that is just my opinion :S both EOW & 5g left me wanting more when i got the last page

I thought that Sex had an interesting premise and the sex scene was pretty tame. I am definitely interested in reading more of the title. As for East of West, I think #2 will drop about 10k or so, and the series will probably level off somewhere in the 25-30k range.

  10. I went to my LCS and tried to get a copy the day that the book released and my guy claimed to have only received one out of an order of 5. He doesn't really sell back issues so I doubt he is holding back.

That Saturday I went around the Inland Empire area to about 5 different shops. Only 1 shop had one copy of EoW. Usually, I can find a store that has about 20 copies of a hot book still sitting on the shelf when I make a trip like that. So I would think that there aren't that many sitting on shelves.

I think this book will slowly climb. It's going to probably start to gain good momentum around the end of the first arc. That is when most of these "hot" books seem to take off. Once a story is complete and they realize that there are issues at the beginning that they missed.

As for Saga type-numbers, I don't know if it's going to get that crazy. Hickman isn't as well known as Vaughn, but he does have a high-profile gig writing Avengers, but how much that translates into sales for his other books, I don't know.

As for the long term sustainability of the prices on any of these books: Who knows?

Sure TWD is 12 years old now, but that book is an outlier.

Also, comic sales were up 22% in the month of March. That's a lot of new readers who probably didn't get on the EoW train who may be looking for a #1 in a few months.
