  1. That one wasn’t at my LCS today, and we got there when it opened!
  2. Yeah, twin packs too for $2. I wasn’t looking for any myself but my one grandson said these would look good in your comic room. So I said for $2, DONE!
  3. They still had copies of that one left but they were going quick. With 5 grandkids pulling stacks of free books and $2 Funkos, it was hard to keep track of everything!
  4. Just took my 5 grandkids. Great time! This was my haul…
  5. This is a cover that took years to grow on me. Westerns were always a side interest to me and I’m not a big fan of “rear view” covers. The first time I saw this book I was unimpressed. As I became more familiar with Kid Colt I noticed it’s really only his trademark red shirt and cowhide vest that stand out. I started to realize what a clever cover Maneely crafted. He shows the broad shouldered Kid taking on seven baddies and you get to see all their awesome expressions. You don’t need to see Kid Colt’s face. He is perfectly calm and collected as he strolls through the chaotic gunfight! Even with the odds stacked so high against him the Kid still shoots to disarm and not to kill. The design of the cover works to draw your eye to the central figure with his height above the rest creating a triangle effect. Even the odd positioning of the closest bad guy’s legs on either side, angle up to draw attention to the central figure. This along with the lighter ink colors in the smaller background characters gives a nice sense of depth. I usually don’t ramble on about a book so much but felt like explaining why, when it popped up for sale, I jumped at it. Oh, and the Joe Sinnott signature is just icing on the cake!
  6. Most every Eerie Pub mag is over the top with gore (which is fun too) but these are some of the more artistically pleasing covers I happen to like…
  7. Maybe. Either way it does not make or break the story for me. It just seemed a bit ogre ish for no particular reason. Sutton was probably just having fun with it!
  8. Well here goes my first try at a review. Vampirella #14: I’m usually not a fan of border covers but I agree with @OtherEric that this blue border especially with the yellow outline really enhances this Sanjulian painting. It is one of my favorites. Perhaps it is that along with the beautiful gal, there is that looming cyclops. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad was a movie that impressed young me, and made me a fan of everything cyclops! Feary Tales: Good art on just ok features. How can a headless woman scream? Isle of the Huntress: A really solid story in script and art. Mixing shades of The Most Dangerous Game and The Island of Dr. Moreau. Gonzalez at his best with the opening splash showing the depth of field with varying ink weights. The Wedding Gift: Ploog art is always a treat and we get to see see him draw curvy women and some creatures. My take on the ending was a nod to the Woman’s Liberation movement. The Sword of Light: Really like the art on this one. The story needed a couple more pages to flesh it out better IMO, but was enjoyable. I thought this page was done well with the extensive crosshatching. Deadman’s Treasure: A very nice story that was paced well. The Sutton art was good as usual except the pirate character looked more ape like than backwoods swamp dweller for some reason. Wolf Hunt: Simply stunning art by Maroto! The plot is kind of bare and brutal but works well within the story as to why the wolf would break its code not to prey on humans. By his actions he became less than human, and therefore could be consumed as an animal. Overall a great issue from cover to cover. Strong art and good scripts make this a top issue in my book! I also loved the double page spread highlighting the Vampi Annual too!
  9. Pretty cool! A coworker said to me yesterday, “Look, they have the Flash on the Coca-Cola cans in the vending machine!” I was surprised at this and took a look then told him it was Daredevil.
  10. I will dig out my copies and see what I have to read and contribute to the thread.
  11. Ace put out some comics with nice women on them too.
  12. Friday and no AxeElf. @Axe Elf if you’re reading this, hope you are well and that you will be back soon!
  13. It was a no brainer once I saw the finished painting. Other than the obvious prelim/finished look to these covers, the main difference that I see is that the finished (unused version) seems to be an animated hand clutching at the door. The used prelim art always left me thinking it was a severed hand lying on the floor.
