  1. Your response re highlights part of the larger problem here with terminology surrounding foreigns. There is no clear definitions for the different types of works that exist. How much can you localise a work and how much license can a foreign producer take with a character or story before a work is no longer a variant but something entirely different? Alterations are made to art, language, advertising, printing layout, panels are removed, whole new story arcs are created, whole issues are redrawn and any number of other changes or license is taken with characters and there respective universe's. What is a Variant vs. Adaptation vs. Localisation vs. Transcreation vs. Anything else and can there be a line in the sand between them? Does a work being authorized or not enter the definition?

  2. Working on the pics, I have to go to a friends house to upload my good camera.

And this is a question for everyone.... Are people here interested mainly in variants in the form of just being translated or with some alteration to prices etc... Or are there people interested in the larger world foreigns have to offer like adaptations, localisations or other forms works have taken in markets foreign to their original creators? I've seen the Mexican spiderman and things here are these other types of foreigns anybody's focus?

  3. Junk picture, better ones coming with my next round of uploads but this finally arrived today my Japanese iron man 80......IMG_20140226_191152_zpsww0ffv7l.jpg

Very cool Henro! What known Japanese IM keys exist? hm

The only two I know of is this IM #80 cover that actually has a different interior, and one with the interior of IM #92 which has an adapted ASM#87 cover. When the Marvel Kobunsha pocket book series was discontinued the publishers parent company still put out several volumes of the material it had begun to translate for other pocket editions that never materialised.

  4. Some new uploads, first japanese marvel translations 1972 conan and captain america. 1958 and 1978/79 superman variants and what is that????spidey side by side with nude centerfolds!!!!!not sure of the rules here so I added the stars over her sorry guys...... Did we ever print stuff like this in the U.S. or elsewhere?? check out the photobucket for the rest with more to come.........IMG_2187_zpsac8e2bc6.jpg

  5. Curiously they accept and collect variants and reprints. They just seem to busy over there driving around in their 89' volvos and eating ramen noodles worried that the paper their collection was printed on was made in the good ol' US of A. Mmmmm you can almost smell that scotch pine! No wait that's just an air freshener....some sealed these things in plastic cases!

  6. Hello everyone, long time lurker first time poster. This feels like some nerd version of standing up at an AA meeting so here it goes..... I have a serious problem, a longtime addiction to foreign collecting. My collection was once English only key issues but then it happened, I was bitten by the bug. In the years since it has only got worse. I wake up in the middle of the night covered in sweat, unable to sleep until I hunt a little more. The most anyone has ever seen of my collection is the spines. I've been happy to find a group for sick individuals like myself with a venue to lay bare our shame. I can only imagine the first con the FCC mag attends...... An handful of people coming to congratulate you on your bravery, while and endless stream of cosplayers and traditional collectors gawk at you as they pass like an LGBT booth at the RNC. All jokes aside its been great catching up on what's been going on here. In the weeks ahead I hope to photograph some of my collection and show it for the first time. I have alot of things not represented yet, and a somewhat different focus than the collections I've seen here. Thanks to everyone that has been contributing to this community, I just hope I can add to it.
