Ira K reacted to Nemogollom in This Week Back From CGC
Got this book back; I really loved this period of Valiant and this cover to hang up. There was a little facilitator snafu; creators left Marvel to do their own thing and now Stan signed this :P I'm cool with it though, funny thing to happen. I do wonder what Bob and Shooter thought when they signed after Stan.
Only really crappy thing is that I want to hang this and it has the worst Newton rings I've seen; literally the entire front cover shows them from any angle.

Ira K reacted to Shadow in Motor City Comic Con 2018
Well, this is 24 years at this show for me. It got me back into the hobby after a 10 year hiatus when I realized my "28 year old self" could afford a JLA #3. I didn't take show pictures, just pictures of my purchases.
This year, got there a little late at 11:30 thinking the line would be better than last year when I was early. At first, I thought I was very, very wrong as the line snaked all the way around the convention center. But, it went pretty fast and we only waited about 40 minutes vs the 1 hour last year. Because my daughter and nephew were with me again this year, I had to move through the show faster than in the past. Went to my two constant stand-bys: Bob Storms and Dale Roberts. I think I've bought something from Dale at every show for at least 20 years. I trust their grading implicitly. Show was packed.
The toughest choice I had to make was at Bob's booth. I've collected World's Finest since I was 12 years old though it's never been as dominant as JLA, X-Men, Conan, etc. Bob had a VG #71 and the CGC 6.0 #7. Even though the #71 is on my "grail" list, I couldn't pass up the iconic cover of #7 and owning a GA WW2 era DC book. It's the oldest book in my collection now. So, count me in the Golden Age Appreciation Club. The Batman #198 and Flash #217 were from Dale. The Batman is an upgrade to a 2.0 beat up copy my 13-year old self bought in 1979. I couldn't resist the X-Men Annual #1 from Bob and the Avengers #71 from Dale. Bob brought some beautiful Red Sonja's for me. It's a shame the interior art is so horrendous in my book. I have been quietly plugging away at my Marvel Team Up collection. I've always had the Byrne issues but winning Greggy's Raffle Box a few years ago caused me to go for the series. Picked up a beautiful #2 from Dale that I wasn't planning on. Also some MTO from Lange and Collector's Zone, plus other misc. Last stop was Neal Adam's booth. I bought a GL #76 Print last year for him to sign. This year, I couldn't resist his iconic Batman "sprint".
It's great to have the kid's with me but I do miss out on going at my pace through the show and meeting fellow Boardies. Thanks for letting me share!

Really? I really liked Deadpool growing up, and found that Ryan Reynolds has this character's number. To each his own I guess.

Ira K reacted to 1950's war comics in This week in your collection?
There is really only one Atlas war key comic and that is the famous flamethrower death to commies cover of "Atlas War Comics #11" (shown at right)
i think this Atlas Battle #18 comic has an outside chance someday to also be considered an Atlas war key....

Ira K reacted to Hey Kids, Comics! in This Week Back From CGC
I missed on a few, but the frustration of five 9.6s and NONE with grader’s notes continues. I THINK that’s the only 9.8 Variant Lady Mechanika 0 on Earth. It’s a little tricky with the different covers, but I think I’m right.

Only three? That is tough... have to go with some classics—- ( And a tie for third, can’t keep the Golden 100 off the list )

Ira K reacted to ThothAmon in My CGC Submissions
Thought I’d give an update for those that might be interested. Of the 200 or so books sent in for grading I’ve received about 20 back. Highlights so far are a 9.4 asm 129, 9.0 ih 181, 9.4 Foom 2 (not sure why I didn’t have this one pressed first), a 9.6 Iron Fist 14, 9.8 asm 252 and 9.8 Star Wars 1. Lowlights are my Shadow Comics 4 Which came back a 7.0. Unhappy because it is a beautiful book and highest graded on a census of 5 was 7.5!

Some What If Venom Possessed Punisher. Finally took the medicom toy out of the box. Figure looks cool, but it is kind of terribly made.

Ira K reacted to poppy73 in Got a comic room??? Showcase it here!
I had a wall that needed something to liven it up so I found these comic book mounts on Amazon and now I can display my graded books on my wall. It's also easy to switch out books so if I get tired of looking at one I can swap one book for another.

Had to rearrange my comic room to move my TV away from the window. I kind of like it better now that the view from the couch I can see comic stuff.

Ira K reacted to oakman29 in PSAs and DNAs are they worth it?
The way I look at it is. If I personally didn't witness, or approach a celebrity for an autograph, it's not a legitimate autograph.
