  1. So any takers on some fun guesstimations for what they will go for? I'm going to say $16,200 for the Comicconnect copy and $19,450 for the Comiclink copy. I mean white pages come on! That bad boy should break some DD 1 CGC 9.4 recent records.

  2. Wow, two CGC 9.4's about to come up for sale auction style in February. One on comiclink that is clearly the better copy and has white pages. The other on comicconnect with a date stamp on it and off-white to white pages. Should be interesting!!!

The ComicLink copy is really sweet. The CC copy is nice, but not as nice as that White pager.

Yeah I'm really excited to see what they go for. As I recall, the comicconnect copy has been up for sale on there for some time at like $19K with a high offer of around $16500. Personally, for that copy I may have taken the $16500. I mean I get it's a 9.4 but with the date stamp I'm not sure it will break that much in auction, but we'll see.

  4. lol well i think there are a lot of copies coming out now and Rob and I had both been kind of circling that book for almost a year now I think. I find it kind of funny that we both purchased one the same week and would be curious to compare notes on how much money we made people at auction bidding on DD1s this year ^^

I think the 9.4 at Comic Connect is one of, if not the best copy I have seen from a production view point this year [i can say that I never had any intention of going into 5 figures for a DD 1, as of the three Marvel Keys I still need (ASM1 JIM 83) it is my least favorite] but the cut of that copy had me bidding in 5 figures.

Whoever bought the Comiclink 8.5 got a nice deal. I was bidding a bit, but had 9.0 or better on my mind and didn't want to go through a .5 upgrade scenario.

Well congrats Rob, :applause: nice to stop butting heads with you at auction as I think we are in the same boat, meaning only DDs I would consider now are maybe upgrades to some raw books of not as much significance where I could sell the under copy easily.

    Here's my copy. <a href=DD1%202_zpsbbotktsc.jpg' alt='DD1%202_zp

If you ever have a second and wouldn't mind posting a close up of the top left corner (notorious for defects) I'd appreciate it as that book may have the best 'Avatar' region I've seen in a while. :applause:

No problem lol! :) There's definitely a small amount of color break on the top left edge, and a few extremely small color breaking stress marks on the spine where the avatar is, but it's pretty clean.

:applause: Thanks for doing that, that is a very nice top left corner, I'd assume that the faint stress there is what kept it out of 9.6 because I can see little else that is not perfect on this book. (thumbs u Its like someone whacked all the DD 1s on the top left, in the Green area with a sand paper wrapped ruler. The 9.0 I bought has abrasion there, which is undoubted what kept it out of higher grades.

Yeah to get a 9.6 you pretty much have to have perfect edges. I can only imagine what the two or three 9.8 copies look like.

  5. My favorite part about my copy is at the bottom right side of the front cover. Most copies have that little color breaking tick on the bottom of the cover right in the middle of Karen and Foggy, but mine is almost perfectly clean there. There's some minor newton rings as you can see though, but whatever haha.

  7. It seems high grade 9.2+, well wrapped copies are being held onto by collectors. I haven't seen many copies at auction or even on ebay lately.

I agree. I think part of the problem is not many HG copies actually exist. SPJM was not the most popular title and I don't think it saw the same speculative interest that other bronze titles did.

The census (while only a poor proxy) is interesting in this case. Only 558 graded copies total! Only six in 9.8. and We haven't seen a substantial rise in those numbers since the book's price started to climb. So my feeling is the census won't ever explode.

As a comparison IM 55 has 1969 copies with 53 in 9.8 and ASM 129 has 6320 copies on census with 89 in 9.8.

The white cover and availability of copies with a slightly offset spine to mask color breaking spine creases that can be pressed flat make IM 55 an easier book in high grade. The darker cover is an issue with Jimmy Olsen #134.

I agree. There is a confluence of factors which make this a difficult book in HG.

I'm definitely holding onto mine. Kind of waiting for the Justice League movies I guess. <a href=DS%209.4_zpskqbqj7te.jpg' alt='DS%209.4_
