    Collecting
Ever since I returned from deployment in 2013. I started reading and collecting Invincible. I made a post a few years ago about almost being done with having ever issue. Well Completed that task right before I deployed again in 2019. Now I am at the point in this journey that I only lack 17 more comics to get graded in 9.6 or above. It's been awesome. I've read and reread the story several times. For me it's one of those that you can never get tired of. And since the release of the show I have been able to go after new covers which has also been a good time for me. My last submission to CGC for Inviniclbe should be going out next week. I know I most likely won't see them till the fall time with the terrible return times but hey with a year in confinement basically people really didn't have much else to do but start a hobby so I can't be too angry. Hope you guys/gals enjoy the pictures. Happy Collecting.

Finally after not pulling the trigger on this issue a year or 2 ago I was messaged on the boards in the wanting to buy section and an awesome member asked me if I was still looking for this issue.  Of course I was and purchased immediately. Case was in good shape still plan on sending it off for the new case. But the hunt for this issue is over and now onto the #52 RRP variant another that I am sure is going to be difficult to acquire. Shout out to Delt569 for allowing me to purchase his copy thanks.

I am normally not one to purchase sketches or even pay to have them done.  I believe they're way to costly and I could purchase several other items for the amount of money most of my favorite artist would charge for a commission.  With that being said I came across a wonderful cover sketch for Invincible #111.  Anissa as the joker with Mark in Batgirls shoes done by Scott Blair.  I fell in love with this cover as soon as I found it.  I think a lot of you guys/gals will appreciate it.  Thanks for reading.  Phillip

So a while back before the overhaul on the journals and message boards I had posted about being almost complete on Image/Skybound's Invincible which in my opinion is probably the best comic story out.  Anywho after going through each and every book I had in this series at the time I was missing around 14 issues and decided that I wanted to at least have 9.6's or better.  Looking at my collection that wasn't happening at all when I purchased the majority of the middle part of the series I never paid much attention to spin creases or fox ears on the corners I was just excited about owning the comics.  Needless to say I had to replace over 30 issues because of these faults knowing that even if I shelled out the cash for pressing it wouldn't make much difference too many color breaks so on and so forth.  With all that said I have finally got to the point that I want to be at purchasing most of what I was missing either raw copies or slabbed and definitely a few hard to gets, and I am down to missing only 6 issues to complete a run with all variants and only 1 issue to complete the series.  This will mark the second time I have completed a number to number run once I can get my hands on issue #13 GLCBrad had a copy I should have just pulled the trigger on that was already slabbed.  And with prices inflating due to the movie announcement it may be a little while before I am able to purchase that issue until the excitement wears off so to say. But I am happy I can say all I need is 1 more.  Thanks for reading Phillip.

As some of you know if you have seen the WTB section or read my journal when I decide to ramble I have been searching for Invincible #75 variant.  Much like the 1:100 it was pretty hard to come by for a while with the excitement surrounding the announcement of the movie. Well I finally got my hands on one graded at 9.6 I may have paid more than what I should have but that happens in this hobby sometimes. Regardless I am now 5 issues from having a complete set including variants and in making sure I hadn't miss counted or left anything out I realized I am missing the regular cover for issue #98, once I find that one at a reasonable price and condition the set w/o variants is complete. I am planning on laying off on trying to find the other issues I need given the holidays and may just put it on the back burner until the prices start dropping again. But now I am the happy owner of one of the most sought after comics in this series with 2 others to go so if you happen to have the variants for issues 51 and 52 feel free to contact me and lets work out a deal (lol). Happy hunting to all you collectors out there and hope you find the gems you are looking for.

    ?
I find it difficult each and every time I decide that I want to send something new into CGC. A lot of thought and second guessing and adding and taking away from my submission happens every time. Do I want to send off stuff I plan on keeping and adding to the registry, or do I send the things that might turn a buck or two. I don't really know a time that it has been easy for me to just say "yeah these books are going this time". It was easier for me to enlist into the military than it has been for me to pick what to send off and what not too. I know that was pretty much a ramble but for those of you that decide to read this. What goes into your decision making process for stuff you want to send in. If you're like me which I know some may be. Funds don't always allow for a submission every week or month or two. So please any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Something different
Over the past few years I have found myself to become one of those people that follow the trend after getting back into comics, not picking up a book cause of the story or because I enjoy the art associated with but because it's the "in" thing at the moment. And because of this i have several comics that i have no desire keeping or sending off to get slabbed.
Most recently I have begun an inner battle, New 52's Action Comics and Batman, I already parted ways with Detective, Superman, Green Lantern, and a few other up to the point complete runs. With fear of missing out on the HTF or must have issue cause of a 1st appearance or plot twist i still have these on my pull list and can't break away from either titles. And as sad as it is I don't find any enjoyment in reading either title because to me the story has died off.
The hard choice is to or not too just cut ties and sell the series run I have, or just grin and bare it with hopes the story picks back up. And with marvel "rebooting" several of my favorite characters, mainly the spider-man universe, it makes it all that more difficult,
at one point i owned every issue of amazing vol.1 and vol.2 from #200-700, but with money issues had to sell them, so now i concentrate on completing the sets i have entirely including variants(yeah I'm one of those guys now).
Hopefully if i do rid myself of the comics i no longer find pleasure in having I won't regret it and worry if I will be missing out.
    Thanks for reading.

The best superhero comic book in the world?
Now I'm not sure how many people that read this journal if any of you decide to are Invincible fans. But I like to think this is probably one of the best comics out right now. Maybe not as popular as ASM or the X-Men etc. But with the taking off of TWD a few years ago, pretty much anything that has my Kentucky's own Robert Kirkman on the cover, everyone just flocks too.
With all that said here begins my rant, Overstreet is the go to as far as comic book grading goes, unless I am not aware people are using something else. What bothers me most about this is that no one or hardly anyone is using this to base their prices off of. Invincible #1 is a good example of that. Yes I realize being graded by CGC does add a little more value to the book cause you know what you're getting, but inflating the price by $100 or $200 has no justification.
Even issues 2-15 which happen to be the only ones i am missing from my Invincible run are extremely over inflated, and i know why it happens but why. To me nothing is better than getting that final issue of a larger run you have been wanting to complete, with only 14 more issues to go I see it being a long while before I find the prices appeasing enough to bid or even buy-it-now.
I was lucky enough to search amazon and find a #1 granted it's the Larrys Comics variant but a #1 none the less. Hopefully the market for this relative unknown goes back to what it was before pop-culture took over, hopefully I can finish this run.
Sorry for the rant, just wanted to get that off my chest(wife doesn't completely care haha).

Is 9.8 really worth the prices they go for.
So when I first started on the CGC wagon, I made it a point to try and get nothing but 9.8's. Now after reading tnerbs journals, why isn't a 9.6 or 9.4 or even 9.0 just as good as a 9.8, aside from the obvious point difference in the CGC set manager. I mean honestly, I was able to get a Vol.2 Amazing Spider-Man #1 for 15 dollars and free shipping on auction at Ebay.
With that said my hunt for 9.8's only is over these comics are going to be in my collection not bought and resold I have enough of that stuff laying around now.
    Thank you for reading

    Yay
That moment when your submitted comics from 2 months ago get graded and its a matter of time til it goes to shipped safe. Don't know about the rest of you, but i turn into a little kid when i watch the status change.

    Finger bends?
Not complaining about the grades on my last submission, most are what I figured they would be. But as I was going through the graders notes, something kept coming up. Finger bends, now I'm not entirely sure what these are, haven't seen this on any of my previous submissions. But I decided to look at the area where these "finger bends" seemed to be and maybe my eye isn't as good as that of the graders, but I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.
Now on top of that the comics that I submit are normally out of circulation my LCS normally allows me first pick, valued customer I suppose but that flaw just seems kinda off to me.
But hey majority 9.8 and 9.6 so not to upset about it.

I thought they would be better.
So got my most recent submission back, and it was the start of the new cases CGC will be using. Well the cases are nice I give them that they seem a lot clearer and a little more sturdy. But being someone that uses graded comic bags they just kinda screwed me. On my smaller cases I would receive, I used the resealable BCW bags and on the larger cases mylar bags. Well now looks like I am gonna have to goto the larger more expensive mylar bags for everything. That is unless someone has a good recommendation for another bag company or size I can also use. Thanks.

Rant of the quality in which comics arrive.
So I don't know how many of you actually collect any of the new issues being released, but I pick up a few every week online sometimes most at my LCBS. With that being said I have noticed lately that a lot of the issues being shipped out are damaged when being received by my LCBS and even when getting a shipment from Midtown if I missed an issue or the store I go to didn't have it. Now with that being said you would think that with the amount of money even after these companies have gone to digital that paper issues bring in they would protect these things. It's getting more an more difficult to get a 9.8 off the shelf without going to different stores or ordering online. And it's not so much DC issues more so Marvel. Just wanted to rant a little the wife don't really care so I know you guys may or may not feel my pain thanks for reading.

    ASM
So I know it's not a key issue but at 8.0 almost 46 years old, and for the price I couldn't pass up on this ASM #89. Plus given the fact that i started collecting ASM Vol.1 and 2 again I told myself i wouldn't go after the 9.6's or anything like that for the earlier issues funds just don't allow it. For me an awesome vibrant cover works.

    Sad the closer it nears
So over the last two years I have become a big Invincible fan. I noted in a previous journal that I believed Robert Kirkmans other comics were extremely over priced just because of the fan following for TWD. With that said I have been slowly filling in the missing issues for my run of Invincible. Why? Easy that comic isn't the run of the mill. People die they stay dead the villains sometimes win and the hero doesn't always get his way. I enjoy that about this comic. So to find out the series is ending at issue 144 I am happy and sad at the same time. He doesn't want someone else to take over the series, even tho at one point he said "someday i would like to be reading a comic I don't like by people I don't know". I wish that they would continue the series its one of the few I actually still read and enjoy, but the story has an ending. So hopefully he doesn't pull a McFarland and say it's done but keeps going. With that said I was finally able to get my hands on a 1, 2, and 3. And even tho they aren't the 9.8's I am ok with it because I can now say I own the first 3 issues and hopefully all of them down the road of the best superhero comic (in my opinion) that is out.
    Thanks for reading my rambles.

    My experience.
So I didn't get a chance to do this after I got back. Busy with military stuff and the kiddo, and I suppose the wife(ha). Any who, I won't lie, the only thing that was a highlight for me was getting to talk to JSC and JTC. Other than that the crowd and the amount of rudeness I came across was astounding. Don't get me wrong I met some really nice folks standing in line to get the foil variants DC released at NYCC but other than that the vendors minus like 3 were ridiculous the prices are so far off what I could get certain books for online. The floor destroyed my feet and knees. And the lack of different product was upsetting. I am trying to close out an Invincible run right now and of all the vendors I went too only 1 had something different. Not to say the experience of being there was awesome because it was, but I now know that one day is more than enough for me to browse and look for what I need and see who I want to see. I am sure there are those of you that disagree but this was just my experience. I hope to make it to SDCC some time in the near future. But my plan is to go to all of the major cons at least once. And hopefully over time they get more about the fans and not about the money. Thanks for reading.

    Quest almost done
So I have posted before about my love for Invincible and no not Iron Man. This is about the only comic book that I have been able to read through a few times and still enjoy. And while Kirkman and company deciding to end it at 144 I have made it a personal goal of grabbing up every single issue including 2nd prints and variants. And now with only about 12 issues left in the series I am almost to my goal. I only lack 6 issues to complete the series thus far minus the extras. It's a great feeling actually being able to handle and hold the issues I once thought I would never see. Last time I was this excited I had 1 issue left to completed a full run minus Variants of ASM 200-700. Which I had to sell (financial issues came about). The only thing that will be left to do is start sending these books off to be graded and hoping my eyes are as good as I think and not have anything less than a 9.6. But I like to think being able to say I own every single issue of an amazing series will be worth it and the grades I get back on them not being as important. We shall see. Thanks for reading.
