  1. Great cover! Dawn is a tough get for sketch covers... Congrats!
  2. I think you are missing my point. If someone like me can recognize many of the signatures out there then someone who looks at and grades comics for a living is even more likely to recognize the names. So, if a signature is recognizable, then I would prefer the unwitnessed name listed on the label if at all possible. As to your second comment.... 99 times out of 100 I will choose the CGC Green over the Red (especially if the name is listed).
  3. This thread contains multiple topics. The yellow label rules are the most clear (and should be enforced to the letter if the program is to retain its high level of integrity). Another topic previously mentioned concerns what is written on the Green (Qualified) labels. Here are two examples of mine... both unwitnessed signatures of Alex Ross that were properly given a qualified designation, but listed differently. One has " 'Alex Ross' written on cover in marker" and the other has "Name written on cover in marker". I would much prefer the former.... there is no guarantee of authenticity and it makes for a nicer presentation. I understand that there are unknown and unreadable signatures out there, but in most cases CGC graders can recognize these signatures at a distance. For me, this one change would significantly decrease the stigma of a Green label (and likely steer more books to CGC that are now getting Red labels).
  4. It looks as though your cover was missed. I am sure CGC and Todd will rectify it... hopefully with a full Todd and not just a T.
  5. This was a fun one to get both Jim Lee and John Travolta to sign at last year's Fan Expo Canada.... I am going to miss cons this summer.
  6. I love what Mike does with remarks. He has three "levels" of remarks (Prime, Legendary and Epic)... these are the middle one. I believe his prices are still discounted on his website from his last virtual appearance. At that time, he mentioned that he is less willing to do sketch covers in the near future due to the time and effort involved, but loves doing these remarks. He did a Silver Surfer sketch cover not too long ago that was stunning.... I believe that CGC had it on their website or IG page while commenting that at first it looked as though it was an actual cover.
  7. Mike Mayhew remarks on his Star Wars:Vader Down #1 Comic Con Box sketch variant from 12/15.
  8. Thanks. It had a big scratch and a huge Newton ring right over WW's nose.... not the best look.
  9. Back from CGC for reholdering for scratches and impressive Newton rings.... I do collect WW sketch covers from my favorite artists and this is wonderful!
  10. Thank you for the responses. I will be interested to see what other books show up in this report over time and am certainly happy that I made a clearer choice.
  11. Incredible Hulk #1 has always been a challenging book to find in high grade (at any price). The CGC Census has one 9.4 and 6 9.2s that have been graded. Since another company has just started a Population Report, I was curious to see what numbers were reported for a few of my CGC books as well as some more impressive ones that I will likely never own again. The Population report for IH #1 lists 5 9.8s, 4 9.6s and 2 9.4s. Why have I not seen ANY of these books listed for sale on secondary auction sites? I was going to be snarky and end with "asking for a friend"...... but would actually appreciate more insightful responses. I am fully aware of the existing CGC/Voldy/PG# dynamics. Thanks.
  12. Nick always does an awesome job....Congrats!
  13. I have a question.. does rarity come into play in the CGC Registry when points are determined? Batman Adventures: The Lost Years (1998) had 5 issues printed and has had a total of 9 copies graded by CGC. If there are no other 9.8s out there, shouldn't the points be higher?
  14. If only...... https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/frank-thorne-red-sonja-1-cover-original-art-marvel-1977-/a/7229-91042.s
  15. Dale is my absolute favorite Hulk artist of all.
  16. Unfortunately, there will be no SDCC this year. Here are two Mary Jane sketches from Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez from SDCC 2011.
  17. Here is one example (not a sketch cover, but a remark). When Jim Starlin signed this Epic Illustrated #3, he inadvertently smudged the cover below the signature. He added a remark to partially cover the smudge, but the grade was still affected..... I believe this is what was mentioned in the notes (I will check).
  18. David Finch. Unfortunately, the case came in from CGC scuffed and there are some Newton rings in just the wrong place so this is heading back for reholdering. I love the sketch though!
