CLOSED -- Joe Sinnott's Personal Atlas Copies

Thank you, so true! These were all copies he got from the newsstand run by the Atlas office, so he got to pluck them himself. -

SOLD! Gunsmoke Western #40. VF or better. Two on census, including a 9.4 so this one, while sweet, is doubtful a topper in my opinion. $200 -

A word about noting census populations on these books — like many, I often take those citations with a grain of salt as we know there are many long-timers with ungraded books in black hole collections. That said, I would suspect if the census is at all directional as to extant copies, it’s with high-grade Atlas genre books, even moreso than 1940’s mega keys. Of course, many of you have been at it even longer than I have and have your own well-formed, informed opinions. But I think it’s at least directionally legitimate to note census population in this thread. -

About 25% western, 75% war. Western first. Won’t go too late tonight as it’s a Sunday night but we’ll get started. -

A word about the books: As many of you know, I recently brought to the boards Joe’s personal copies of his body of Archie and his body of Charlton romance work. In the case of the Archies, none was contributor copies from the publisher, so Joe bought the lowest grade available from Mile High, in the case of the Charltons, it was a mix, with some higher grade examples that were contributor copies from Charlton, and lower grade ones that were purchased as back issues. This is a very different animal: In the case of the Atlas work, Joe went to the offices in NYC weekly for his assignments and was allowed up to three copies of each book he worked on, plucked by him from the newsstand that Atlas ran in the office building that housed thenAtlas offices. Before Joe’s death, a close friend helped Joe and his family select the highest grade copy of each of his contributor copies. Joe sold off the undercopies unsigned, then kept the best copies and signed each one on the margin of the first page of each story he worked on, as he did with the Archies and Charltons. Since his passing, his family has sold Joe”s signed keeper copies to the friend who helped them grade the books, with the understanding that he would keep some and move many into collectors’ hands. He has sold me some of the Atlas books (I had all the Archies and Charltons, but those were much smaller bodies of work) with the same understanding: that I would keep a few and disseminate many to collectors here on the boards. I will offer at least 40 early post-code (and a couple pre-) Atlas western and war books. Many of these are single-digit census books, and a fair number of them have a shot at topping the current highest graded. Most are glossy and bright with characteristic light to moderate, even tanning to the inside covers. Joe stored these for years wrapped in a loose bundle, unbagged/unboarded. -
5 Simple Rules (Please, please read) 1st wins; tie/indeterminate goes to the thread. Payment is Check or Money Order (yeah, yeah I know I'm a dinosaur, troglodyte, luddite, mennonite, hermaphrodite etc. - I just don't have or want e-payments.) Shipping: Via USPS Priority Mail, $10 for Legal Flat Rate Envelope (with flip n ship mailer inside), or $18 for a Medium Priority Box. Slight adjustment based on actual cost for shipping to Canada. Don't be listy including the little one in my head. Returns: Sure, just notify me within three days of receipt and get it back to me in the same shape on your dime. (Kudos thread linked under my avatar.)

Boardies and gentlemen, I have been working on a very special thread that I hope to be able to begin tomorrow evening, mostly likely between 8 and 10 pm Eastern (I’ll update as I get more precise.) — Some of Joe Sinnott’s signed Atlas war and western personal file copies (contributor copies). As many of you know, I recently brought to the boards Joe’s personal copies of his body of Archie and his body of Charlton romance work. In the case of the Archies, none was contributor copies from the publisher, so Joe bought the lowest grade available from Mile High, in the case of the Charltons, it was a mix, with some higher grade examples that were contributor copies from Charlton, and lower grade ones that were purchased as back issues. Next up is a similar yet very different animal: some of Joe’s personal copies of his Atlas work. In the case of the Atlas work, Joe went to the offices in NYC weekly for his assignments and was allowed up to three copies of each book he worked on, plucked by him from the newsstand that Atlas ran in the office building that housed thenAtlas offices. Tomorrow, I will begin a thread that will offer at least 40 early post-code (and a couple pre-) Atlas western and war books. Many of these are single-digit census books, and a fair number of them have a shot at topping the current highest graded. I’ll post a couple randomly selected examples here, but most are glossy and bright with characteristic light to moderate, even tanning to the inside covers. Joe stored these for years wrapped in a loose bundle, unbagged/unboarded. No advance sales; I will bring these to the thread to give everyone a shot at these tough, higher-grade Atlas books with historic provenance.
