I'm just expressing my preference. I see the merit in motivating people to unearth nice pieces from the black hole on CAF for others to enjoy. But, to me, if you've been holding onto a piece for 10 years, or five years, only to drop it on CAF in December so you can get a Thor's Hammer, I don't know if I agree with that. But, whatever. I don't have any way of policing it, or proving my point.

I agree - look a lot of veterans could win this thing if they can pull from their secret pile from 20 years ago - heck, I might have a piece or two myself but that is just not cricket!

    Hi all!

Similar to Wonder Woman, Joker, Catwoman, (Sensation #1, DC #40 and #122 respectively), and many other great characters, the below books should be given the designation “first cover appearance of _____”

    1.    Strange Tales #118 - Dr. Strange

Depicted in the bottom 1/4 of the book with his name displayed prominently. He is also holding the Eye of Agamotto, a key item in the character’s mythos. More than a floating head that is for sure!

    2.    New Gods #2 - Darkseid

Depicted with his name displayed prominently. He is at the forefront and drawn larger than any of the posse of characters behind him. Much more than a tiny floating head.>>

After consulting with the other graders, the wording we have now added to the Key Comments for these two books are: "1st Dr. Strange on cover." and "1st Darkseid on cover.", respectively.

    Conan 58 1st Belit

(You can remove 1st Belit from Conan GS 1 - it only mentions her name - the tiny woman is not Belit, it is Valeria - if you can't admit the error then go Belot cameo if you must)

Compare this to Hulk 180/181 if you doubt that Beloit's 1st App is Conan 58>>

Again, after consulting with the other graders and doing some research, we have changed Giant-Size Conan #1 to say "1st appearance of Belit in cameo." and Conan #58 to state "1st full appearance of Belit."

    Cool to see changes made!

  3. I remember being at a prominent collector's home, decades ago, and gently asking him if he had other significant wealth given he had ~$1M of art lying around - it seemed a little irresponsible/risky to have so much art without other wealth - but he had a lot of art and not much else - believe it worked out fine given price trends on his focus.

As others said, if you are fortunate enough to have your first $XM, I guess the rest can be art. In any case, I I am working to reduce my % art but it is tough as I love this stuff so much - but I have been selling at CAL to reduce my percentage.

When interest rates are low on cash equivalents having a lot of art doesn't have such an obvious opportunity cost - but when you can get cash on your cash, it is a bit tougher to forego those earnings.

    Still looking for 1971 Smith/Everett Astonishing Tales 6 page 6 - 1977 Rogers/Austin Detective - and 1977 Nova 11 pages!

Nice Wildcats art keeps doing well. I held all of mine for about 20 years and started selling it for amounts in the $100's, forgetting that it takes 30 years for fans to age into prime nostalgia buyers! lol Now that stuff is going for tens of thousands, and I'm down to my last half dozen pages or so. You'd think my experience prematurely selling my Xmen art would have taught me something!

Yeah - and how do I feel, I acquired two from you in a 2009 trade and sold one in 2013 for $280 - argh - but happy to have kept the other!

Why did people buy this stoopit predigree again? Every picture I've seen on the forum has been in a slab with a higher number than it should be.

Why didn't people put their money into something more stable as far as a CGC graded book? Surely if you knew about the Promise Collection to begin with you knew there were better avenues for your money.

Not sure if this unpopular but I agree - when I look at the scans of these books, the majority look overgraded - heck when numbers are 9.6 and 9.8 I am not expecting to see obvious defects...I noted this with Don and Maggie collection to a lesser extent.

Thanks. :foryou:  I've always wondered in any auction I've bid on if I was going up against someone I knew from here. hm  Hope you can snag a copy that you like soon. :wishluck:

On a different note, this is likely my last purchase of the year, from anywhere. :wavingwhiteflag: Maybe. :tonofbricks: Don't know about the price, but I never really see the book up for sale, and I've always wanted to own one, so this was another "Whatever" moment.
