    Thanks for the feedback and yes, I did inform each potential buyer that there are other offers competing on these books. I plan to also spell this out explicitly in the sale thread rules going forward.

    I listed an original owner Golden Age raw collection in the marketplace last summer and, wow, was that ever a blood bath!  Before I finished posting all 80 or so books in the two batches, 99% were taken.  My inbox was flooded with offers and there were multiple cases of "take it!" posted in the thread for the same book.  I think by the end, buyers just slammed in their "take" without wasting time to even look at the images :-)  Just a few seconds made the difference on several books.

    Being the seller in this case, I can say that is exactly the situation.  Based on timestamps, the first buyer accepted a counter offer and sent a PM. It was close and appears to have been a minute or so later that buyer 2 accepted a similar counter offer.  Basically there were overlapping offers sent (one was for multiple books) and the first PM back was the winner.

    Not sure how others handle multiple offers but I have used the eBay approach of replying to all offers as they arrive and the first one who takes the counter wins.  One alternative is to hold all offers until the conclusion of each negotiation. Challenging if a buyer goes MIA or there are overlapping 'package' offers.  Going forward I plan to clarify my thread rules for this situation.  I tend to list books that attract multiple offers and it can often be a feeding frenzy, especially for Golden Age books.

    This is more of a discussion for the marketplace general thread but I have been communicating directly with Ghastly to better understand the concern as seen by my DMs above.  I use the same process for offers that eBay uses. That is, if more than one offer comes in, especially on multiple books, I counter each one in order. The first buyer who agrees to the counter via PM wins (posting a 'claim per PM' at the same time helps).  In this case, I received a DM from an earlier negotiation, within a minute or so before Ghastly's DM, accepting the offer.

    Waiting for each offer to conclude has its own issues as some board members do not reply for awhile, if ever.  I did some searching tonight on the forum for guidelines or suggestions but did not find any.  None the less, I will be updating my sales thread rules to clarify this situation where there may be more than one negotiation in progress.  I tell potential buyers in my negotiation DMs that there are multiple offers in progress but will make it more clear by stating this in my rules going forward.

    If anyone has suggestions or better, a link to a board discussion on recommendations for handling multiple offers, I'm all ears and we can take this discussion over there.
