All Hail The New Record Holder!
Wow! One million more than the previous record. Who's the lucky (not to mention rich) auction winner? Can't wait too see all the coverage about this in the media.

    Mission Accomplished!
Due to the recent upgrades by CGC, I've reached my objective of 30,000 points on the registry. Nice to be at this level after two and a half years. There are still a few must haves I would like to add, such as Green Lantern 76, Batman 232 and Creepy 14.

    A Thought On Turning Fifty
Today marks my Fiftieth birthday. Incredible how time flies. What I would not give to go back exactly 40 years, the time I first started to collect comics. Marvel comics had just gone up in price to 20 cents and DC comics were at their 52 page, 25 cents stage. If you told me back then that I would be collecting comics today, let alone paying hundreds of dollars on a single book, I would have said that you were...... well, you know. As I have stated in my bio, I collected comics throughout the 1970s before caling it quits. I would not resume buying comics again until 2002. I think that those of us that have returned to collecting after a long absence all feel the need to re-capture our childhood in some way. Now, for anyone that says I will be collecting 30 years from now....

    Always Fancied This One
Won this copy of Aquaman 38 in the last Comicconnect auction. It has a cool, psychedelic cover by the late Nick Cardy. Just wanted to show this beauty to everyone. Happy New Year !

.....Or Getting In Over Your Head
In the October Comiclink auction I put in bids for six books. I expected to be outbid on at least three of them, in the end I was outbid on two. The total for the four books I won? $1,318.21 including the shipping and buyer's premium. OMG! I sweated it out for about a week before getting an unsecured loan. Perhaps some of you have been in this situation before. I guess it teaches one a valuable lesson. I certainly learned from this. No matter how badly you want certain books, DON`T type those bids in recklessly! Now to start scrapping up money for Christmas!

So, this book is back on my want list. The consignor who listed it at Pedigree Comics must have resubmitted it, without removing it from the website. This I found out because when I tried to add it to my registry set, CGC informed me that the certification number was not in their database. Well, these things happen, but the consignor needs to get his act together. Pedigree Comics tried to get a hold of this person to find out the status of the book, but to no avail. Got my refund, so I can stop sweating.

    silver age comic
My latest acquisition of a DC Neal Adams cover from the 1968-69 era. There's not many by Adams on this title that I'm interested in, but this one I like.

Love the orange background here, which is a highlight on other DC covers of his - World's Finest 180, Superboy 152 and, of course, Superman 233 are other examples.
Funny that with everything happening at such a fast pace on this cover, the two of them manage to get all those words in. LOL!

Picked this one up today at the Toronto Fan Expo. A backup story by Neal on something called the Human Target. I like the cover by Nick Cardy, depicting an "everyday life" scene. Nine more Adams books to go. Enjoy.

    Adams Legion
Just picked this one up from Comic Connect, where my best offer was accepted. There are a few covers on this title by Neal Adams that are not bad. So it goes  with my hunt for books with Adams cover work only. Enjoy.

The First One Secured From Latest Comic Link Auction
Conan 45, from late 1974, the tail end of Neal's DC/Marvel glory days. Adams did some inking in this issue and also the cover with Gil Kane (strange pairing if you ask me). I'm bidding on a couple of other Adams books and will follow up with journals if I win them. Enjoy.

    One of Neal's Finest
The second book from the comic link auction. Awesome Spectre cover with Wildcat in the foreground. And it's always nice to get the 9.8! My winning bid was somewhat lower than what you would usually pay for this book in 9.8. Gotta love those c-link auctions! Be back with the final journal on the last book I'm bidding on. Enjoy.

    Nice Superboy Scene
Here's the final book from the auction. Just when I thought I'd seen every great Adams cover, another one pops up that I'm unfamiliar with. This is actually the first Superboy comic that I've bought since I began collecting again way back in 2002. Just awestruck by Neal's detail on this cover. Enjoy.

    Nice Black Picture Frame Cover
Just won this in the recent Pedigree Comics auction. Somewhat tough to find in higher grades. A 9.4 here, strangely so, regarding the spine stress. Oh well, I'll take it! This story is part of the Kree/Skrull saga that went on for about nine issues, with Neal Adams doing the interior art on four of them. By the way, saw Age Of Ultron yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Just won this in the ongoing Comic Link auction. Finally, a Neal Adams book worth decent registry points - 1500 to be exact. Very early Adams work here on this straightforward cover. As was the inclination with DC during this era, they would feature several back issue covers on their anniversary books. Enjoy.

    dc western frontier
Now that I'm back on my feet financially post pandemic, I've decided to go after the remaining books with Neal Adams covers on my want list, about a dozen altogether.
Here's one that I was outbid on recently on eBay. One of the best of the Adams Tomahawk covers, if not the best. Looking to re-acquire issues 121, 123 and 125 also.
Other than that, most of the remaining Adams books I want are issues from the Superman titles.

    At Last.....After Six Years
And I'm the first collector on the registry to do so. A feeling of satisfaction, to say the least, upon completing the goal of acquiring all of these books in high grade. And this last one is a Mass. pedigree to boot. And like all the Tomahawk covers by Neal Adams, it's a stunner. Enjoy.

Won this book on eBay today. My first signature series purchase in four years. Continuing with my acquisition of Neal Adams covers. Features the first appearance of the Tornado Twins, Don and Dawn Allen, far future descendants of Barry Allen. Enjoy.

    Adams Brand
Won this yesterday in the latest Comic Link Auction. Somewhat obscure work by Neal Adams on this title doing artwork on the Inhumans stories. It's nice to acquire a copy that has a perfect cover wraparound, which is quite difficult to find with this issue. Enjoy.

    Simply Awesome
Won a CGC 9.0 Tomahawk 116 in the latest ComicLink auction, upgrading from the 8.0 I have. And it's hard to know where to begin when describing this cover. Neal Adams outdid himself here with this beautiful western culture clash illustration. Actually, it does not look so much as pencil work as it does a painting. Many Adams aficionados consider his Tomahawk covers the best work he's ever done and I would find it hard to disagree. A great pity that he did not do the interior art on these books also. This particular issue is my favorite DC cover, period.

    HOM Creepiness
Won this one in the last Comic Connect auction. A nice horror cover by Michael Kaluta, who was doing all kinds of work for DC at the time. A triple cover on this one, (how's that for a printing defect) with the outer cover a 9.2. Love the blue and yellow color combination. Not too often that I add a 9.8 to my collection. Enjoy.

WOW! Talk about pristine! A beautiful copy with vibrant colors. Easily the best Subby 34 that I've ever seen. Looks more like a 9.8. This is the "Prelude To Defenders" issue. The team would make their official debut a short while later in Marvel Feature 1, albeit with Dr. Strange instead of the Silver Surfer. Purchased from the Comic Link exchange. Enjoy.

    Magnum Force
My second and final win in the current Comic Link auction. As is usually the case with the 1970s X-Men acquisitions, the dollar/registry point ratio is amazing. This one is worth 616 points, about four times the dollar amount of my winning bid. Enjoy.

    Adams Deadman Rules
Bought this beauty on ebay, making it my first purchase for 2014. And I got it for a great price too! In my recent journal on the Tomahawk 116 I bought, I mentioned that the covers on that title may be the best that Neal Adams has ever done. But the case certainly can be made for his SA Deadman run also. Actually, I think this cover is just so-so. There are some other SA covers more stunning, particularly 207 and 214. Enjoy.

Won this in the recent Pedigree Comics auction. These mags were around for the first half of the 1970s. At the time, many thought of them as the poor man's Warren mags. But since then a cult following has developed for these books, more or less. A bunch of them were up for auction here, which was a surprise, since you rarely see slabbed copies of these turn up on the market. Along with Nightmare, there was also Scream and Psycho. I like the provocative cover on this one. Enjoy.
