If you make an average salary (30k to 80k) and don't have any art to trade, I don't think it's worth going to shows anymore if your hope is to bring home something decent. If you just want to go to hang out, pass the time, take a break from things, and look, that's another thing...but the prices these days for anything decent/good is impossible for virtually most everyone.

For the prices that are being quoted on this Byrne X-men 109 page...80k on up...you don't get a really good shot of Wolverine and on top of that, Wolverine is getting absolutely killed on this page by Vindicator!

IMHO, the three greatest comic inkers (i.e. those who really didn't pencil for the most part and primarily inked over the pencils of others for the bulk of their career) are Sinnott, Janson, and Austin...
Austin in particular looked great over pretty much everybody (Byrne, Miller, Golden, Paul Smith, Leonardi, Arthur Adams, Toth, Simonson, Perez, etc.).

This is just me personally, but I have a difficult time looking at Schomburg art from the Golden Age comics era where he depicts racial caricatures of Asians with the extreme slant eyes and extreme buck teeth...same goes for Connie in Terry and the Pirates by Caniff. I'm aware that these comics with Schomburg covers still sell well as do Terry and the Pirates originals by Caniff featuring Connie...but for me, it's a real turn-off to look at these, and as such, could never own such items...

Great page...some of Fritz's greatest work can be found in his romance comic book pages...check out the stories "Empty Heart" and THE masterpiece, "Untamed Love"...

Some dudes that did great wash work (thinned india ink to get various shades of grey)...without a doubt Steve Ditko's Warren work...Frazetta was amazing with this technique and so was Dave Stevens...

True masters of using the Craft-tint technique for added textures and depth...numero uno was Wally Wood...his MAD run of the mid to late 1950s was absolutely incredible...Al Williamson was pretty good too, and so was Frank Miller...

Roger owned the Witches Tales 25 as well...I'm guessing that should show up eventually in this or another auction down the line...
He also owned the cover art painting to Strange Stories from Another World 4 with the zombie rising out of the swamp water towards the viewer by Saunders...
Additionally, he owned the cover art to Chilling Tales 16 (Youthful) that came out of SD Con in the late 90s (you remember...)...I mistakenly thought that was by Hollingsworth, but after digging deeper, think it's by Joseph Szokoli...
