Like my father before me....
onlyweaknesskryptonite replied to onlyweaknesskryptonite's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Funny you bring up magazines. When searching for the comics that's mostly what I found was magazines. They included Popular Mechanics, Model Railroads, Almost every National Geographic, Adult titles including early Playboy, his Roy Rogers Lunchbox , and these -
What was the first comic you ever got signed?
onlyweaknesskryptonite replied to PeterPark's topic in The Signature Room
Had this signed by Martin Powell and Daerick Gross at a small shop in Ohio 1992 a few days before I met Jerry Siegel ( who was my second signature) Just a few months after Joe Shuster had passed. After talking with Jerry that's what sparked my love of Superman. -

So far it is all I have been able to track down. I know there are more. Although a lot were missing the covers. Have found some just by hunting through old photos and seeing them and asking family members about them. Still hope more turn up. My own personal scavenger hunt. -

Thank you. I knew they didn't mean a lot to most of the family. To me it was a reminder of what got me into collecting. Added value that these were books he went to the local five and dime, bought , read , & enjoyed. -
Like my father before me....
onlyweaknesskryptonite replied to onlyweaknesskryptonite's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
These are all pictures I took tonight of my father's actual comics , which several of them had been divided between family and some of them had sold them. So I tracked them down and got them back. -

After posting on another topic it made me reminiscent of my father's comics which after his passing I just had to track down. I know they are not high dollar books , however they do hold value to me. So I have decided to post them here and welcome comments or other to so the same. It was one of the reasons I ended up following in his steps and become a "Collector" also known as a Horder depending on who you ask..

Looking back realized this is in GA... Oops.. ok for The Golden would be getting some of my father's comics back after his passing.(will have to start a separate post for them all) I know that they were not high dollar books, however his own original books held a lot of value for me and those who I paid to obtain them.

I am starting this topic as today I received a CGC graded comic and the first thing I noticed was the Newton Rings, however upon closer inspection there was a line that had none. That's when I noticed a long dyed or bleached hair inside the inner well against the cover of the book. Now this isn't any high grade (it's 9.4) or super valuable book , and like most I laugh. Although if the hair was freshly bleached or dyed it could actually equate to a real problem for a high dollar book as it could bleach out a line on the cover or leech dye and if regraded could come back as a color touch. Ok back on topic it has me wondering what is the weirdest thing that has ever made it's way into a CGC case? Like the doc who forgot to remove the gauze during a surgery. I am curious what's in the case? Anyone ? Show us your , " what's that doing in there?"

I know it will factor, but I have gone over it and it is not a mark. It is definitely a hair. When the book moves in the inner well the hair moves independent of the book and well.

double Mark Jeweler insert
onlyweaknesskryptonite replied to Cpt Kirk's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
Neat find. I always enjoy seeing oddball errors. Thank you for sharing! -
I hope we are all laughing at this amateur CSI .. The CGC edition : case of the lone hair. Breaker of Newton Rings. I know I am especially with this as it's not the best book to begin with , however It will not be as funny when someone really did just bleach their hair and it ends up next to your high grade high value book and bleaches out the color..
-
If that is all of them. By coloring and length , maybe 3. far right stripes , front second from right in the wind breaker , and fourth from right in all black.
-
Although my luck it was freshly bleached and will start to leech into the cover.
