    Greetings,

I've been burned several times buying so-called high grade silvers. received books, but when graded, found to have been trimmed.(Avengers 53 and Flash 140) . To say I was disappointed would be an under statement.

Didn't fall for the "you get what you pay for" trap. Paid FMV for these books, just wasn't aware of trim. Not saying dealer was either.

Purchased a IH181, received book, was missing MVS, but since my skills could detect a CUTOUT from a page, returned book for a full refund.

Perhaps it's my own fault for not having knowledge of how to ID trimming, restoration of books upon receipt Then perhaps I could have address with seller.

Any tips on identifying trimmed and or restored books would be appreciated?

Regardless,, it's led to be extremely hesitant to by so called HG raw books. Which is a shame as I like to actually read the book(would'a thunk it) as opposed to buying slab, crack, read and re-sub- No! Guess I could settle for  a reprint, again -No.

    Regards

What is a trimmed comic book?

Hard to find in any shape especially let alone to be this intact and vibrant in this grade. The water damage on the top right and color breaks along spine and outside of cover is what gives it the grade. Graded with white pages, probably the most presentable 3.0 out there as I have seen the other 4.0 that went up on Hakes (and didn't sell regardless of GPA) and it was right alongside this copy aside from it having off white to white pages.

Open to trades as I have been craving to get back into the game for some time now. I am always a batman guy so I am always down for golden age bats, GGA art, robot covers, and silver keys.

$1,200 shipped across Canada and US & A

That is a great cover.  Very hard-to-find comic in that grade.  Is 3.0 a very good? or is it good?  Wish I could afford that comic.  One of my favorites.

Just for kids?  Not true.  A colleague of mine wrote his PhD dissertation on Strange Tales #73.  I can't remember if Grottu represented original sin or man's inhumanity towards man though.

  4. Made for young teens and tweeners.  And of course fanboys and fangirls who will like any superhero movie or
TV show.  For adults it's garbage with dialouge that only 10-year-olds will like.  All the network cares is that it is a ratings bonanza.     We're talking GARBAGE.

Adventure Comics #294 CGC 9.0 Off-White to White pages!  Absolutely insane cover with one of the best CGC notes yet: Bizarros masquerade as Marilyn Monroe, President Kennedy, Mickey Mantle, and Jerry Lewis!  This amazingly lunatic silver age story was written by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel, and it's in nearly perfect condition!  Was $200, now only $165 shipped!

    I will take it.

Ahhh the memories of those first comic book stores. They were true pioneers in the trade! Two of my original go to's are still in business today. The Comic Book Warehouse formally Nostalgia in Albuquerque and of course Rich from Bedrock Comics who way back when used to live in Albuquerque and worked with the Brazil's at Nostalgia if I remember correctly? When I was visiting in Long Beach last month I almost made it out to Hi-De-Ho in Santa Monica. I understand it may be the oldest shop in the country but the Brazil's in Albuquerque weren't too far behind their first store must have opened in '78 or '79.

I have seen many collectors claim they bought an old comic such as a beaten up GL 2 or for 3 bucks but when I used to hunt for these books they were much more.  Terry and Harley and others used to sell them for 20 or 30 bucks--maybe more.  That's why I dont buy comics anymore.  One guy claimed he bought a beat-up Flash 123 for only 75 cents.  Yeah, right.

It may have been. If I remember right it was on Lankershim I believe?

No.  Passport was on Victory Blvd just east of Coldwater though at one time he had moved his store to Victory just west of Fulton.  I'm thinking that both Earl and his wife Dee may have died; they were heavy smokers and surprisingly even smoked at the store.  I'm sure most of their comics smelled of smoke.  Also, he would place his comics in cellophane bags and then write the prices on the bags with a black marker thus all their comics had noticeable indentations.  They were both nice people but they did not know much about proper care and handling of comics.
