Next up, Captain Marvel #14 and #17. These are the 1st appearances in civilian form and in costume of Kamala Khan. Isssue #14 has bothers me personally ever so slightly because of the way it was later revealed that “hey, this is Kamala Khan, but you’ll never know unless someone ask the writer about it..” thing. Still, that’s what they stated it so that’s how it is, just always struck me as both odd and convenient. Issue #17 is the other end of the spectrum. She appears in costume and its obvious that this is her. To me, this is her most undervalued book.

I understand that issue #14 is her first appearance. I just think it probably will have slower longterm growth than #17. My ratings on these too definitely reflect the difference in current prices realized. I  believe both books are worth owning but variants and 2nd prints will hold down their prices somewhat. This is why the Point One issue shines.

I have 1 of each in NM. I’ve sold a TON of these including more than a couple on #17 2nd print...way too cheap.

    Rating

    #14

    raw NM = 5 out of 10

    CGC 9.8 = 6 out of 10

    #17

    raw NM = 6 out of 10

    CGC 9.8 = 7 out of 10

She does not appear in costume in issue 17. She's just wearing a T-shirt and pants. Her first costumed appearance was the 2nd print of CM17 on the cover.

Considering about a quarter of the world's population is Muslim, I'd say there's room for more than one in any comic universe. The bottom line is whether some writer seems something to explore in a character. Deadpool was pretty generic as created; it took Joe Kelly adding some depth for him to be something interesting. What about the Guardians of the Galaxy? Around for decades, and not the slightest bit important until put in the right hands. The same goes for pretty much any character. It takes a writer wanting to explore a new angle.

Yeah, my money is on dust being irrelevant. Marvel writers/editors do not have enough insight or background to write dust competently. Kamala had the perfect writer/editor combo to make it successful. Also, kamala has her own series whereas dust will most likely always be part of a team. And I never said that there can only be one Muslim character in the mcu. I was/am using kamala just as a reference because what makes both of these characters unique is their religion and cultural background.

  3. Captain Marvel 17 2nd Print has already established itself as a modern age key. Kamala will continue to become popular as her young audience grows. She is definitely a character that should be invested in for the long term.

on a different note, there hasn't been any recent 9.8 sales on the Captain Marvel 14 variant. 9.6s have sold for 2k. This may be a book that can crack the 10k mark in a few years especially if there's more tv/movie news for KK.

Is there any reason why this book is that hot?? A ratio of 1:100 should be just $100 after a week not x7??? First appearance?? Major death?? First artist cover?? First “spider-wang”??? (DC done it why not Marvel)

im asking since I passed on this regular book last week.......

It's simply pump and dump by a certain group. And the fact that everyone seems to be calling this book "rare" makes me rethink what the definition of rare is. lol.
