  1. I've got a nice copy too....neat book. I got this one form my old friend Dave at Bender's Books....my LCS since the early 80's.Dave's store is like no other...he's got pulps, Famous Monsters, old Playboy's,several boxes of Undergrounds in the adult section, old toys, collector's paperbacks....easily the coolest ,most ecclectic store I've ever been to.And a half million comics.Ebay has put a dent in some of the cool collections he used to turn up....but it will always be a Mecca for me.He always had this incredible knack for turning up rare books that he didn't even know I was looking for....like this one.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u P.S. I wish I still had the fine condition copy of Weird Chills # 1 that I got from him for 50 bucks back in the day.
  2. just WOW Nice, Brian......where did you get that beauty ? That's gotta be an 8.5....maybe even 9.0. My possible all time favorite....but who can really choose a favorite from this run ? GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  3. NICE.....GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  4. Agreed, grades like those just dont pop up to frequently. Most are in the VG/F range, and most of the ones on E-Bay look questionable. I can remember backin the day when dealers tables had stacks and stacks of the pre-hero books. Those days are history sad to say. Again, great looking books! DRX There may have been stacks but they probably weren't high grade. There are definitely more out there than on the census, which I'm confident will be revealed if prices rise. I remember a show in 1974 that I attended locally.....there were runs of many of the pre-heros in VF or better @ $ 5 each...which was very expensive back then. To put it into perspective....I ended up spending my paper route money on Hulk 2-6 @ $ 30 ( $ 6 each ) and VF+ copies of JIM 85 and X-MEN 1 @ $ 15 for BOTH books. Man I MISS THOSE DAYS.....but I;ll never forget that ST 89 that was there in newstand condition....the one that got away. The X-MEN 1 was purchased at a discount at the end of the show. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  5. FF 55 puzzles me.....it's a neat book and purple is one of my favorite colors....but.......every auction has one and I never liked the way the thing looked on the cover, yet there seems to be no shallow end in that pool. For 3 K I'd take the 9.0 FF 7 anyday. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  6. FF 12 is such a classic book....people make fun of me over my high predictions, but I thought the FF 12 (9.4) went cheaply....I figured 40 K. You're right about FF 2, I think every highgrade copy has changed hands recently.....I'm ready to see what an FF 3 in 9.4 would do....I bet it would hit a serious record. I doubt Doug will sell his anytime soon. GOD BLESS...-jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u Jim,FF#3 in 9.4 is easily a $40K book. Easily. A FF#5 in 9.4 would probably fetch $75-100KToo bad we will probably never see them up for auction. Speaking of auctions,I was laughing at the fact in this CL auction that a reasonably common non-key like 9.2 #43 finished with a higher hammer price than the 9.2 #52 ($716 vs.$700) a key book. I imagine the high bidder never expected it to go so high.....bet the underbidder was relieved. The 52's have turned out to be more common than I used to think....although I would still love to have one....one of my VERY favorite covers.GOD BLESS...-jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

  8. Surprised me too.....but I can't remember the last time I saw a 9.4 change hands. I was expecting 12....maybe 15. These first year FF's are just so much more scarce than almost any of the other Marvels. If it's got the 12 cent price in a circle, and you want high grade you need deep pockets....but I'm preaching to the choir here. When it was stalled at 7700 I thought it might be the steal of the auction....I should know by now GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  9. The FF 7 at $ 2900 in 9.0 really surprised me....while the steal of the early ones was probably the 17.....such a tough book in grade.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  10. I bid on the trimmed 5.0, but it left me in the dust. It's a sharp copy and the trimming is minor.....wouldn't have minded getting it.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u P.S. That 9.4 FF 6 is a REAL toughie in that grade....someone will be lucky to get it....whatever it sells for. I still have my 5.0 NOT trimmed for sale Steve I wish I could afford it.....as much as I love the FF, I never owned a # 1.I was kind of hoping the restored book would go for around $ 1000 since it was trimmed. I really am starting to see some regular acceptance of resto books at half guide. I want a copy I can afford but can be deslabbed for mylar.....nothing that would fall apart. How much is your 5.0 ? Did you pick up anything in the auction? GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

  12. I was just checking the census....FF 1 only has 1@ 9.0 and 2@ 9.2....that really will be tough...and that's from over 750 different submissions.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  13. We're hoping you were the one who pulled the trigger on the FF 8...9.0 on Comiclink....probably one of the toughest FF's in 9.0 or higher.GOD BLESS...-jimbo(a fried of jesus) (thumbs uP.S. It sold for $ 3500....about 50 % higher than the surrounding issues in similar grade. It really should be broken out in Overstreet...as should 16,36,39,and 57.Those usually sell for more than the rest in their respective groupings. Got one.... :banana:On the way! What did you end up with, 9.0 or 9.2 ? Congrats. The last two toughies will be the 1 and 3....haven't seen 9.0's of them in a LONG time.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u 9.0 jimbo with an old label to boot! Steve I'm looking forward to seeing it.....it's one of my favorites. The best I could afford is this 7.0 from Doug who got it from a British board member who got it from Harley Yee at a London show years ago. It's not the 8.5 that I usually wait for...but the color strike is dumbfounding.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a fiend of jesus) (thumbs u

  15. That's got to be the best color I've ever seen on a 10.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u P.S. I'd rather have that one than a higher grade with less color.
  16. They are going for that much ? I am going through my boxes of ST as we speak...... A question....Overstreet doesn't list it, what is the first appearance of Dormammu ? iI had always remembered him as a classic Dr. Strange foe and was surprised to see no listing. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u ST 126 (and for Baron Mordo, ST 111) THANKS, buddy.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

  18. Blazing Bob had a 9.2 a few years back..... sold QUICKLY.....haven't seen a 9.0 or 9.4 sell in a LONG time. Last 9.0 was the Pacific Coast copy several years ago at $2500.which was a flip from a purchase of $1900. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

  20. I just made some significant price reductions to my pre code thread....if they don't find homes in a week....I'll let the thread go away....nice books, good prices...STARTING ON PAGE 3 OF THE THREAD.....I am also starting a separate thread for a few more ecclectic goodies...thanks and GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  21. I remember getting it off the rack....man I loved Kirby FF's.....I was totally bummed when he left Marvel....I'd rather have been dumped by a girl than to see the King leave Marvel. He did leave us some nice annuals....I loved them all. I really liked the Rogue's gallery from 1 and 2....when they were reprinted in Annual 8, that's what really jump started me to collect back issues...it kind of gave me a shopping list.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  22. Make that 5 votes for Venus 19.....although Menace 1 or Weird Mysteries 1 or 5 would look cool on the wall.GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  23. Annual 6 was a favorite.....I was kind of young when it came out and my mom was pregnant with my sister the same time Sue was pregnant with Franklin...it kind of put a cool spin on it.I was always surprised it wasn't more hot as keys are concerned...especially with the first appearance of Anihillus.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  24. Cartoonist's Calamity is one of the best, for sure.Everetts's titles always impressed me too.As far as his women go....ironically,that was what first attracted me to his work. It was the early 70's when he was doing his final run on Sub-mariner.I had the hots for Namorita...who was about my age at the time .I also have to place "The Stone Men" , also from # 17,at the top of the list....love those detailed renditions of landmarks around the world. That Lorna you posted is incredible.....how do you turn up these Ubercopies of these books that never turn up in HG ? GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  25. I've got this too, interesting read! One thing I wish was that there was more time spent on scarcity of various issues. If anyone would know scarcity, it's Michelle Nolan. She's one of my heroes....I really miss her articles in CBM. In a way, these boards kind of became the new CBM. I wish Michelle would post here.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
