Your 114 is amazing!
It might have been you when I first walked into that shop in SV. There was a guy arguing with the owner over the 94. He was saying you are ruining it in the sun and the owner said it is not for sale just for show. I had 106 up to almost current but new issues were so bad I lost interest in completing 94-105 so I looked and it and just kinda laughed. I always felt it was over priced and the supply was tightly controlled. I have a nice looking copy with a ripped back cover that I am happy with now.
GS#1?

I remember that 94 in SV. It was eventually bleached pure white by the time they went out of business.

So many epic moments in anything Larry wrote. Well maybe not Wulf the Barbarian.

Remember when Chris Tucker signed those girls autograph books in the 5th Element? It was basically like that.
-
Had Jim sign my X-Men 268 back in the early 90's. It was basically just a black loop on the cover. Gave it away a long time ago.
Great pics!!!

A few years back I saw a long box of 150.
I stopped picking up multiples of anything after 143 even in quarter bins. I must have 12 copies of 248! Stacks of 166 and 175.
I have 3 copies of 266 now.... that's about the only later book I would still grab.

As with any monthly there are gonna be some real stinkers in there but it is what it is. I tuned out around 285 and my first issue was 185 so it was good times for over 10 years or so.
My neighbor saw me with an Overstreet and said his first issue off the stands was 95. He is a big John Byrne fan and still hangs out on his web site to this day.

Man that 45 cover is sweet! I need one but all my $$$ is going to Original Art these days.
Have you guys thought about getting an original X-Men page? Most Byrne and Lee stuff is out or reach but the cost of issues 144-544 would get you some sweet pages. Holding a splash page that just came in the mail gives me a total rush 100 times greater than scoring a stack of books.

Found that old interview I was talking about with lots of X-Men #1. Check it out, 12-66 were 50 centers!!!
There was an old dealer on the boards and he said by the time Byrne was drawing they were ordering 10,000 copies a month!

I gotta get everything in order.... my issues are scattered all over. I have 2 101s and they are not even in the same box.
Some flea market scores with an LCS pick up on 50. Shop wanted 9 bucks for it cause of the date stamp!
The 40 is real nice but I paid nice for it too. The 44 has a loose cover so it was free and the 42 is a five dollar beater.
Glad I have no desire for high grade but totally respect those who do.

I think the best way to get those first 50 is to buy a guys collection. One at a time slabbed with shipping is gonna be $$$. I would save 10 grand and let everyone at the flea markets and shops know you want them and have $$$. I have seen an early run of Daredevil in a grocery bag sell for $150 to a shop. No bags or boards. I was at flea market flipping through books and I said to a guy I love these old Lois Lanes. He said "really"? "I got boxes of that junk!" 900 dollars later I got 3 longs of Silver Age DC.
There is a sweet GSX1 9.8 on the boards right now for $9000.

I've bought and traded and gave away the Cockrum Byrne issues so many times over the last 35 years.....
About 10 years ago I was up late and an auction was ending on ebay with 1 terrible pic and condition described as "Good"
I kept zooming in and saying to myself these gotta be VF/NM! If they were Good some spine roll or something would stand out.
Got 101-143 for 200 bucks. All F+ to NM.
What grade are you looking for in early issues? I don't have anything below that tattered 24.
Oh, you got a Gold 297???

What about GSX 1 and the Annuals?
I just dumped a short box of bronze for cheap.
I know I still have an xtra 140 but I think my 109 went in the box. I'll check later.
I have never owned of copy of 100 for some reason.
My brother found a VG+ copy of 3 at a yard sale for 50 cents about 10 years ago.
My 94 looks VF but it has tape on the back cover.
I would skip all the reprints, look close at the covers they are all redrawn hack. Plus sellers see "X-Men 72!!" and think $$$$.
My first issue was 185 and found down to 181 on the spinners. I was at a new school and I always carried comics with me. A kid said you wanna buy my books? I got 106-178 for a dollar a pop. I told him they were worth more but he was over them, more into skateboards and chicks. When he brought them to school I carried them around for a bit then just ditched and went home to read them.
I have seen a long box of 137 before.
I think it was an interview with Bud Cole (?) and he said no one really cared about early Daredevil and X-men so he had a long box of both #1s in Mint.

It is always fun to see a GI Joe 2 2nd print in the back issue bin for 70 bucks!
