  1. Hi Registry Team,

Did we ever see any traction on adding Wizard's Iron Man #1/2 to the Iron Man volume 3 listing as we talked about briefly in the first post in page 23 of this thread?

    Thank you for your efforts....

    Hello @IMJ,

I apologize for the oversight as I did not follow up on this one. Our graders confirmed that the book is part of the V.3 run and it has been added to the set. Thank you for your patience.

  2. Hi Registry Team,

Currently, the Iron Man volume 3 run as logged in the registry - "Iron Man volume 3" is missing the Wizard #1/2 mail away issue (as exemplified by certification number 1710511002). This issue crossed over directly with the volume 3 story and was released during that run's publication window.

Thank you for your efforts with this request to complete this run in the registry!

I reached out to our graders to confirm that this is along the same story line. I will update the request accordingly.

  3. Hello Registry Team,

Recently the Bendis-era run of Iron Man (2017-2018 - the Riri stuff) as logged in the registry - Invincible Iron Man (2017), was updated to reflect the totality of the run (thank you for that, btw). However, the points awarded to the ratio books should perhaps be adjusted to weigh more accurately against the significance of the ratio (which reflects their availability on the broader market as well as in the CGC Census). I would begin with Iron Man #600 in earnest. To help these efforts, here is a list of Iron Man #600 books, with their appropriate ratio attached, some ComicChron sales figures (May, 2018 Data) and Go Collect Sales Data (Iron Man #600 Analysis) included to give perspective as to broader market availability, let alone as 9.8 examples.

600 (CGC example: 1300070021): Standard Cover. ComicChron estimates 58,528 copies | Recent GoCollect 9.8 FMV is $20 - a regular book with a print run spike because of Anniversary numbering that should probably receive a regular 9.8 allocation of 24 points

600 Blank Sketch Cover variant: Same as above. I'm don't believe these were ratio'd and maybe part of the total print run as noted above. Go Collect FMV pending. - a regular book that should probably receive a regular 9.8 allocation of 24 points

600 1:25 Coipel variant: Ratio'd againt the ComicChron estimates, this book is available in approximately 2,350 copies (rounded up to nearest ten) | Recent GoCollect 9.8 FMV is $26 - a 1:25 ratio in low print run that should probably net more points than a regular, non-ratio 9.8

600 1:50 Ross variant: Ratio'd against the ComicChron estimates, this book is available in approximately 1,180 copies (rounded up to nearest ten) | Recent GoCollect 9.8 FMV is $75, - a 1:50 ratio in low print run that should net several points more than a regular, non-ratio 9.8

600 1:100 Ross Virgin variant (CGC example: 1284054017): Ratio'd against the ComicChron estimates, this book is available in only approximately 590 (rounded up to nearest ten) copies | Recent GoCollect 9.8 FMV is $120, I've seen actual slabs transfer for $175 - a high ratio, low print run book that should net significantly more points than a regular, non-ratio 9.8.

600 1:500 Romita Remastered variant (CGC example: 1626149005): Ratio'd against the ComicChron estimates, this book is available in only approximately 120 copies (rounded up to nearest ten) | Recent GoCollect 9.8 FMV is $300. I've seen actual 9.8 slabs sell for less at $200.00 - This is a very high ratio, very low print run book that should net significantly more points than other standard ratio books.

600 1:1000 Romita black & white Remastered variant (CGC example: 2085691003): Ratio'd against the ComicChron esimates, this book is available in only approximately 60 copies (rounded up to nearest ten) | Recent GoCollect 9.8 FMV is $140, although I've seen sales at around $175. The actual sales data would make it appear that there is limited demand for this high ratio book, but this may change overnight if there is any cause to put eyes on it. Based on it's print run alone, this book should command significant points as a 9.8 slab, although market sales data puts it as a book of similar demand to the Ross variants.

Possible confounds to what was presented here include added availability due to over runs and holdbacks on any given copies. Another confound could possibly be the measurement of the rations themselves - for example, a book printed in ratio against the master total (i.e., 58,528) or a book printed in ratio against the master total after removal of the previous ratio (i.e. 58,528 - the first ratio of 2,350 to create a new base for the next ratio, although I don't think this is what is done).  There is CGC census data as well, but in theory the census data should reflect the print runs in proportion, aside from the 1:1000 book which has such a low availability that every copy in existence could conceivable be graded by CGC. The CGC Iron Man #600 census data can create a confound as well though - for example, the market may be more interested in the ratio variants although the census gives the appearance that the blank sketch cover is a "scarcer" book (only 2 copies in 9.8) as opposed to the Ross Virgin Variant (16 copies in 9.8) although it's clear that the Virgin Variant is truly the harder to find book although it has more market interest in submission.  I'd be happy to see discussion on proposed point totals, but I think it's clear that any of the Iron Man #600 ratio books should see points awarded to them in higher value than the comparable non-ratio books even if only based on market availability on it's own merits.  If need be, I will mention census data in a future post, but in that case computing the point totals might require combining or rationalizing the current CGC availability with the concept that these are exceptionally lower print runs to begin with.

Thank you for your review of this data and request!

I updated the scores for those books that have multiple sales on the secondary markets, which is not all of them. Please note that I cannot update a score based only on printage, scarcity, etc as the sales are the concrete evidence.

  4. Hi Registry Team,

Currently, the Bendis-era run of Iron Man (2017-2018 - the Riri stuff) as logged in the registry - Invincible Iron Man (2017), ends at issue #9, although the run went past that, actually ending at issue 600 in legacy numbering.  Please add the following books to that listing to complete the run:

  5. Hi Registry Team,

Please add a spot for Quasar #33 Printing Error (as exemplified by CGC #2101508003) to the Quasar (1989) set in the registry.

Also, just a quick note for the CGC database regarding these books for future grading - Quasar #'s 32, 33 & 34 were renumbered as 1, 2 & 3 for Newsstands during the "Operation Galactic Storm" crossover because by that time the book had been Direct Market only for some time.  Currently the CGC notes correctly label some of these as "printing errors" in instances where these are graded with the 30th Anniversary Spidey box in place of the UPC. However, if any copies of these books come in for grading and have a UPC barcode rather than the Spidey Anniversary box, then the proper annotation should be "Renumbered for Newsstand Edition", meaning that the CGC database would ideally reflect a Quasar #32, a Quasar #32 "Error Edition" [Numbered as issue 1 with Spidey], and a Quasar #32 "Renumbered for Newsstand Edition" [Numbered as issue 1 with barcode]. This pattern holds true for Quasar issues #32, 33 & 34.

It's just something to be aware for database integrity in case this arises. :)

    Thank you!

Slot Created. Thank you for providing the details regarding the numbering of issues. I will pass it along but typically, the label information will be left to the graders discretion.

  6. Just a point to consider - Only a true, true nerd would be directly insulted by Disney and their constituents, be told off and likened to the worst of humanity by Rian Johnson after paying him; and still pay to go see The Rise of Skywalker.

That's like the kid who gives the school bully his lunch money, then gets slapped in the face and afterwards still tries to friend up to the POS who violated him.

Resist your addictions people. Money talks.

I believe someone posted about a variant story similar to yours and I think the response was that variants weren’t in a frenzy when the registry was created so the regular cover & variant are considered the same. Just do like I did and have them create the set with variants.

Thank you for your input. But the set template I have registered my set in has a spot for the #4 variant. And so, it's not the listing on CGC's end that's the issue, but rather something to do with the system not recognizing the CGC serial number as the variant.

For example, if you look at the Iron Man vol 2 set listing in the registry (use my collection as an example here), you'll see that there is a spot for the variant, but it's not filled in my set.

If you click the link I provided, you'll see that there is a spot in the registry for "Iron Man v2 #4 Variant Cover", but that my book isn't filling that existing spot.

  8. Hello Everyone,

I've got years of CGC's that I am just now adding to the registry. Had some problems up front.

1st, my Iron Man vol 2 set isn't acknowledging the #4 variant I have tried to add, and instead is placing the variant into the same listing as the standard #4 issue. What can I do? If I had to guess, the serial number for the #4 variant maybe was never logged as a variant when it was graded, and so the system is sticking it into the standard #4? I have images as verification of the book and have uploaded full images into the rest of the set (which I guess right now is the top set - I must've missed the registry awards this late into the year...).

2nd, I'd like to list a Quasar vol 1 set, but it appears that was never created. Can we have that one updated?

    Thank you for your help.

You have a label error. "Variant Cover" should be listed in bold under "Marvel Comics, 2-97" Please contact our customer service department so that we can get this fixed for you.

Quasar has been added to the Registry.

    Thank you.

I know we are side-tracking the OP thread but I totally agree, Richard.  The art is incredible.  So many great artists we don't talk about enough.  I, too, have copies of both but then who doesn't :nyah:

@IMJ sorry for the side-track.  I meant to ask earlier if you plan on getting any or all of yours graded ? Some nice books that appear very solid grades.

It's no problem at all - there are some great books being posted here! I have a modest slab collection of a few hundred books, but it's unlikely that these will be joining them. I'd assume finding higher grade copies of this set in the 7.5 - 9.0 range for slabbing. Eventually I would definitely like to upgrade my copies - the 7.0+ Astonishing books finding their way in to this thread are amazing!

  10. Awesome set, Telerites! Your copy of Daring Mystery Comics is just great!  Although my set was designed to support a Quasar collection and so I don't think I'd pursue earlier incarnations of any character using the Marvel Boy name though.

Those Astonishing's, especially your 4, 5 & 6 are really nice! Eventually I'll have to upgrade to nicer mid-grade copies like that, but I think a lot of people under estimate how hard it is to build this set. I think there might be 3 copies of Marvel Boy #1 on eBay at the moment, but each one has some kind of really serious flaw, and they have resided there for some time now.

  11. I'm a fairly hardcore Quasar collector, and I've loved the character since I first bought a #1 off the newsstand at a Jewel back in the day. Hardcore enough that I'd present serious arguments for the Golden Age Marvel Books as prototypes for the character and incredibly relevant to modern Marvel Cosmic (1st Uranian Wrist Bands, e.g. Quantum Bands, 1st Uranian Eternals, e.g. Jack Kirby's Eternals, Quasar prototype that has evolved at least 4 times and persisted over almost 70 years now; all there in print regardless of later continuity retcons... but I digress).  On that note, I seem to recall that "Cosmos In Collision" is being collected (finally). It's a great cosmic story, and if you check out the Quasar run, especially everything through Lightle's last drawn book, that it's a great read and a great, humanized character handling absolutely epic cosmic situations under Gruenwald's direction.

As for the convo here, I file the Quasar Newstand issues as "#32a" and "33a". #32 is a great CGC 9.8 candidate too, but remember to keep an unslabbed copy with yours when you get one - the Capullo artwork is terrific and features some great energy projection and space flight stuff going on.
