What are you?  15 years old or something?

Whats it to You? You wanna Date? Just because you got some deals and had to sit through hours of his stories while holding  his tallywhacker, that means he's great. You need professional help. Good night.

  2. at the risk of sounding too harsh,...some people need to lighten up. I'm just relating my lousy experience and add my voice to the many who warn others to steer clear of this B.S. artist. Stop getting apoplectic,..nobody's pressing charges, and the comics (tape and all) are sold for a great price. If you want to love him, call him a great character or acquired taste, go ahead...build a statue of the guy if you want. I'm done. Excelsior!

Richie may be an acquired taste, but so is a fine Anejo, and categorizing him as a 'flunky who the Greyhound bus dropped off in South Florida' reflects much more on the person making the comment than it does on Richie.

by the way, I was being kind.

who are you, his agent? Is your office the phone booth outside the Waffle House? I blame myself for showing up at some detached moldy garage in the first place, I should have chuckled to myself and kept driving. Dealing out of a garage is the equivalent of going to a shade-tree mechanic or having your dentist or surgeon in a Walmart Supercenter,..right in between the Subway and the restrooms. Grade B.  Cyanide is an acquired taste too.

OK, but don’t be so harsh. And Jim Payette is a gentleman, that is no doubt.
One of the earliest dealers I bought from when I started to delve in GA, without any knowledge.
    He is very honest.

I'm very honest too, Jim was very cordial in his communication with me...it's his flunky who the Greyhound bus dropped off in South Florida that's a problem. Live and learn.

Then perhaps you'd be well served by editing your post using the offensive phrase 'New York clowns', and not use it again.

I'm sure nobody out there in comic land (with the possible exception of yourself) is losing sleep over a benign throwaway remark I made ..an accurate remark in this instance I might add. Grab a kleenex and get over it please.

Nah, it's not offensive to use the term 'New York clown'...

Its not exclusive to NY, I'm sure there are shady blowhards operating out of a dingy garage ,...oh, I'm sorry..OFFICE...in the other 49 states too. More power to him.

  8. he's a nice enough guy, but he full of , and it has nothing to do with him not buying my stuff,..I already have them sold so it's no big deal, but I have more respect for the comic shop owners who, unlke this NY Clown , have to pay rent, electric etc... so you know their gonna break out the lube and bust balls even if you walked in with a mint FF #1 and offer 5 bucks..   anyway, God bless him, no harm done, just a colossal waste of time. Yeah, he can talk the chrome off a bumper but nobody's perfect.

  9. Prototype NYC motormouth , wasted 2 hours of my life this afternoon, drove to his florida office, if you call a crappy one car garage an office, and after flipping through over 1000 comics that my brother spent days meticulously indexing, boxing and putting in order, only to have this slapnuts fling through them, and declare that they're of no value because of tape on the spine. He knew of their condition weeks ahead of time then acts shocked and mystified upon seeing them. Meanwhile he sells horses@#t mags in far worse condition on his rinky-dink website. I had good offers but this numbnuts was close by and recommended by Jim Payette so I tried it. I would gladly drive to New Zealand  than deal with this character. Good for a laugh though,...I doubt his jaws have stopped flapping. If anything needed tape, it's his pie-hole...Good Lord....AVOID.

Well, you may want to cherry pick your own collection.  Start with the movies from Netflix out recently.  These instill the characters to the collectors out there.  And, typically the first appearances shoot up.  So, look for those and think about holding them back for a short while and look them up periodically to see what they're doing.  Use someone like My Comic Shop to get a hint of what is going on with the demand, it's a pretty good site to check that out on.  Of course you could also hit Ebay and other comic sites too.  It take some work on your part to make informed decisions.  Next, don't just sell to sell but look around at what is in demand and filter those out for current sell off.  If you're like everyone else you probably have many comics that just aren't in demand and will sell better in "lots" for those looking for an inexpensive and fun read.  "Lots" seem to sell higher than individual books that aren't in demand.  This is the readers vs the cherry pickers for number ones, first appearances and good characters like Spidey, Hulk, Avengers, Batman, Marvel Specials, DC Specials, Variants to name just a few.  I agree you've asked a pretty open ended question on the subject so you won't get anything worth while until you ask about a very specific book or run or comic hero(s) or heroine(s).  Some female stars are up and coming too.  Good luck in your quest!

    Thanks GarBear,,appreciate the input

Hello Rick, and welcome to the pleasure dome!

Can you post some pictures or give us a list of what you have? As a rule, big lines of tape kill a book stone dead from a financial perspective, so it has to be something pretty special to warrant having it graded (on the basis that you're considering getting books graded for the purpose of investment that is).

Most would call taped books 'reader copies' only. They can be loved and read,  but they won't make you a major buck unless they're Amazing Fantasy 15 or similar.

Also, if you taped them originally because they were becoming frayed, they're unlikely to be in good shape regardless of the tape. See if you can upload a picture. It's good to see nice old books in any shape :headbang:

I'm not computer savvy, but if you provide me an email address I can send a few shots from my tablet for your feedback,..thanks.

  12. Help & advice needed. I have several hundred silver-age Marvels that my brother had put a single strip of scotch-tape along the length of the spine (as a teenager 40 years ago) because they were becoming slightly frayed. Of course in hindsight we both wish he hadn't, but back then selling them never entered our minds. I am interested in selling, but would having a strip of tape on an otherwise excellent condition mag be a deal killer? If that is the only flaw, how many points should I expect to be knocked down should I ship some out for grading? I'm a bit concerned. Thanks.
