  1. Is anyone here going for this auction lot Sunday in Heritage:

"Robert Overstreet Comic Memorabilia (undated). A bevy of photocopied rare giveaway comics, photostats of early comic book art, correspondence, and other unusual ephemera, from the collection of Robert Overstreet, the publisher of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, make up this interesting lot. Included are photocopies (some in color) of rare Carl Barks Donald Duck comics, including Donald Duck Tells About Kites and the legendary unpublished Silent Night Christmas story banned by Disney; photocopies of obscure variant Super Book comic giveaway covers and pages; photocopied pages from If An A-Bomb Falls and Candid Tales (featuring a splash page drawn by Wally Wood); stats of early gag pages by George Peter (Wonder Woman artist H. G. Peter); plus correspondence from Phil Levine and Ron Evry, and a few other odds and ends. Fascinating stuff, from one of the prime movers and shakers in the collectible comics business. Not listed in Overstreet. From the Robert M. Overstreet Collection."

I am interested in getting copies of the Kite stuff for my research. Don't want to bid a bunch for a bunch of photocopies, but I am unsure if there is something there that's driving up the price. Already at $24, which is like $40 delivered.

    Lot on Heritage

    :news:

There seems to be a photocopy of the DD tells about kites -Florida Power and light version. The one "no-one" has seen... and thus many has thought it doesn't even exist...

  2. I found a little better universal translator. With a LOT of tweaking it gave this somewhat understandable translation.

PAM-agents Donald and Fethry are heading into a British airbase for their organization's top secret operation. But a sudden blinding flash transports them decades back in time, into the age of biplanes - however that is one of their least worries, because the airbase is plagued by a supernatural phenomena: tiny Gremlins are sabotaging planes and causing accidents.

    ;)

There's something that probably wouldn't catch on in the military - parachute bombs.

Hey those are not "bombs", they are mines and supposed land on water smoothly enough to not detonate. hm

Although Shield seems to be taking a fast route and throwing them.

  4. Art is from the forties so it's not Galgary Eye Opener stuff.

I was just wondering if this was done while he was already doing duck-comics. Stylewise it seems possible since it's quite close to what Barks did when he drew tryout stories with human-figures circa 1950.

  5. Sorry for posting non-duck stuff, but I just got my first Barks original art couple of days ago...

    Inked.jpg

Looks a bit like Madame Triple X from Dangerous Disguise, doesn't she? (Four Color 308)

Anyone have scans from that book? can't find a pic of her anywhere.

  6. After Barks started selling his paintings for huge sums (or at least what was considered a lot of money in the 70's), I wrote to him and asked if I could commission him to do a pen and ink drawing for me. By return mail I received a finished drawing picturing Barks, seated at an easel, painting Donald and the boys. Behind Barks, is an angry Uncle Scrooge kicking him in the rear. The caption reads: "Tell [my name] you grew tired of doing pen and ink drawings, and besides, have no permission to do such drawings for pay!" Barks responds with a shaky, "YES SIR!"

oh my...first your amazing GA collection and now this...

    I hate you tongue.gif

you better post some scans soon or I'll hate you even more... grin.gif

  7. On the subject, I wanted to post these scans for Arty since the "Collected Works" is not published in Finland. They show Barks signing 3 originals for Donald Ault around 1970. The WDC&S cover (1948) is the one I purchased from Heritage last Summer. The photos shows the original pen and ink before Bruce Hamilton had Barks add the colors in 1995 (bottom). I'd be impressed if anyone here can name the other two originals...

    Cool pics! Thanks. thumbsup2.gif

Btw it took awhile but we did get our own "Collected Works" afterall. Box set #2 just came out 893applaud-thumb.gif

About 2100 sets were ordered here.

  8. That MMM V5#9 in Heritage auction looks way undergraded. Can't see any defects but it only got 8.5 confused.gif

Probably one of the best deals in the whole auction for that price.

Anyone know what happened to Crowley FC 79 CGC9.6? It was in auction preview but for some reason it was never offered for sale?. That was one sick book.

Edit: WHOA.... $16,100 for WDCS 2 CGC9.0! Biggest price I have ever seen for a Disney comic!.

  9. Edit: Sorry for the poor photos.

    silent_night.jpg

Now we are talking!!! hail.gif (<---- first time I'm using this graemling on these boards)

For those who don't know... this is ultra rare stuff. If my memory serves me correctly there are only ten existing pages of Barks art from the forties.

(9 1/2? from this story ("silent night") plus one? page from the donald vs. rat story from wdcs 52.

Dammit we need better scans....is it a new acquisition?

  10. Famous Funnies #102

    Blue Beetle #32

Bomber Comics #4 (Sensation #13 swipe!)

I'm not sure if these qualify:

Daredevil #18 (Hitler, Mussolini and Hirohito? as dummies on cover)

Miss Fury #4 (Noted on CGC label as "Hitler in picture on cover")

Edit: Checked Heritage and also found these:

Target Comics V3#8 (noted on label confused-smiley-013.gif )

U.S.A #9 (small but noted on label)

4 Most V2#4 (Hitler, Tojo, and Mussolini appear on the cover as pumpkins grin.gif )

The Human Torch #5 (#4) Check out the back cover!!! Alternative cover for Young Allies #1

  11. OK. I understand that I am bending the rules here by posting a comic from the "Dallas Stephens Collection" but here it is. 893naughty-thumb.gif

Please forgive me oh great Pedigree god for I have sinned, I purchased a half baked comic belonging to a collection. I must repent. sorry.gif

I still love it though.. takeit.gif

Now you are in BIG trouble. 893naughty-thumb.gif

Pedigree gods don't forgive that easily. The only way to save your damned soul is to make a sacrifice....

And there's only one sacrifice good enough: Break that slab, rip that label in shreds and BURN them!

    Otherwise tonofbricks.gif

  12. And to balance the AirBOY, I'll put up a CowGIRL Romances. Reason? Because here's another one of those 50 Ore books which we still haven't figured what they are frustrated.gif And I got this yesterday from another dealer from whom I received the ones I already have.

    824590-CowgirlRomances8s.jpg

This might just get things even more puzzling. That marking is actually 50 Øre Øre - more info

It seems to be a price marking in Norwegian or Danish currency 893whatthe.gif

Take a look at this book hkp posted a long time ago. It even makes sense pricewise
