People like this should not be considered Critics on RT:

Marvel Studios have now officially hit the bottom of the barrel as one of its third-rate, C-grade creations known mainly to Marvel's fanboy base gets his own mediocre movie.

    November 4, 2018 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…

I saw nothing wrong with that review. he makes his points, and isn't overly negative. he even admits that critics aren't always the guide to what's popular or good.

Are you being intentionally cryptic? This isn't a valid response to any of my questions or statements...

Aside from Captain Marvel, none of the above characters are interesting enough for a solo movie. That's the point. I love how you gloss over the entirety of my post, to introduce new dialogue, without first addressing what we were already discussing.

it is absolutely valid. you responded, i countered your response perfectly. checkmate i guess.

Uh... What..? Black Widow isn't relative, inspiring, or meaningful. She's a triple-crossing spy, who falls over herself in servitude of organizations that she thinks will help "wipe her ledger", while doing nothing special in the stories she's represented in.

Again, a character should generate hype for everything outside of their gender. Lack of representation for women, really? Scarlet Witch, Gamora, Nebula, Mantis, Okoye, Shuri, The Ancient One, Pepper (from Day 1), upcoming Captain Marvel?

Black Widow does not need a solo film. The MCU doesn't need an origin story for a character introduced a decade ago.

To a lot of women, this movie is. I love how i mention representation, and you mention a bunch of females characters who don't have a solo movie.

You said it perfectly. For a lot of women, this is that. There is a lack in representation. This movie could help to fill that void a little.

Everyone I've ever talked to lol.

Black Widow is your run-of-the-mill human spy with touches of good (and bad) luck. Black Panther is a king, and an enhanced warrior, something truly imaginative.

Even my friend, who's favorite comic character of all-time is Black Widow, admits that BP is a more interesting character to see on the big screen.

Every woman i know is hyped, hoping this is as good as recent marvel movies. if it is, it could be wonder woman huge.

    Why?

Black Panther is infinitely more interesting than Black Widow.

To who though? i would agree, BP is far more interesting to me, but quite a lot of people will be salivating at this, esp if it's as good as Marvel is always capable of.

  7. Cotdamn was this mess terrible

I imagine if Tom Hardy wasn't in it, this movie would be savaged and dead on arrival. Sony, Amy Pascal, and Avi Arad should be ashamed of themselves for putting out something with little effort.  Say what you want, but let's be real, almost every diehard comic book fan out there knew that this mess wasn't going to work the moment we learned that Spiderman wasn't in it. They lost the goodwill of whoever was leftover after that when they changed their tone and made it PG-13 instead of hard R. In their defense, I think they knew they didn't have a Logan/Deadpool on their hands, so they toned it down to at least pad the numbers with that under 18 ticket money.

We can only hope that this tanks hard enough so that Sony has to give up on their Spiderman-less Spider-verse, and maybe sell off the rights to the better villains back to Disney/Marvel, who actually knows what to do with them.

Here's why those analogies don't hold:

Immediately before being offered New Gods, Ana Du Vernay had already had her shot -- and missed (big-time), with A Wrinkle in Time.

So the better analogy would be seeing Josh Trank's failure with FF, and immediately having a studio turn around and give him $200 million to make a Teen Titans movie.

This isn't an indie-auteur being offered a big-budget franchise -- this is someone who had already helmed a big-budget movie that tanked -- losing the studio tens of millions in the process and killing any sequel/franchise hopes.

And FYI -- the Russo Brothers' biggest pre-Winter Soldier hit was TV's Arrested Development, not You, Me and Dupree.

No, she had her shot with Selma, and scored, then had another shot with 13, and scored.

A lot of the budget of that movie was burned in its time in development hell.

Ryan Coogler had only Creed ($107m) to go by before his big break with Black Panther.

The Russo Brothers had You, Me and DuPree ($75m) as their biggest hit before they got Winter Soldier.

Joss Whedon had a successful TV career, but his biggest movie before the Avengers was Serenity at $25m (on a $39m budget)

Before Christopher Nolan got Batman Begins, his biggest hit was Insomnia at $67m (on a $46m budget)

Patty Jenkins, before she got Wonder Woman had 'Monster' with a whopping $34m Box Office.

Sam Raimi before he got Spider-man, had his biggest box office with 'For The Love of The Game' at $35m with an $89m budget. In fact, his last couple of movies leading up to Spider-man all did under budget. Maybe he has the same agent?

Ryan Coogler made Fruitvale Station before Creed.
